“No Internet, No Austar and Restaurant closed early!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 February 2012

The motel advertises "free wireless broadband internet", it is free, it is wireless, but hardly broadband and you couldn't even call it internet! Slow, flakey, consistent drop outs. The slow internet made me a bit late for dinner, I got to the restaurant just before 8:30 and was turned away, even if I made a choice there and then!

There is no Austar, it is advertised, but it is not there, I flick through all channels 3 times and saw only free to air, there was no instructions to do anything special to get it.

2 soaps and one shampoo is stingy, towels are threadbare, air con is ancient.

The room was old and crusty. Everything needs renovating. This place is $140/night during the week and the Mercure up the road can be had cheaper for a better room.

Room Tip: Go somewhere else.

Stayed the w/end for the Rod Stewart concert. Rooms were spacious and clean, as was bathroom - we even had the toilet paper folded nicely again the next day!
Dined in the restaurant, and had a complimentary drink, plus the servings were enormous. The Omelette I ordered for breakfast the next day was so big and fluffy - never seen one that big before! Buffet breakfast on the Sunday was also great, and was replenished constantly, even after 9.15a.m., which is a bonus for those who like to sleep in, like us! Top marks for employing an elderly lady to help out in the dining room. My only beef is that the pillows were very flat, but luckily I take my own feather one with me.The desk staff were lovely. There is an Aldi and Woolies, plus other shops across the road, as well as a bowling club. Great value.

Room Tip: Make sure it is cleaned thoroughly and nicely.

Although the rooms were basic they were clean and spacious. However, the dining room was under renovation so no kitchen facilities. Felt we should have been told about this when we booked. Paid $140 per night, felt we should have maybe received some sort of discount as no restaurant facilities or room service available. The female receptionist was very pleasant at all times. A bit mean when dishing out shampoo!! One tiny bottle for two people. Had to as housekeeper for another!! Convenient to Hunter Valley and shops. If you are thinking of booking check if renovations are complete first. Recommend a visit to the Art Gallery in Maitland for sure.

We stayed overnight on a weekend to celebrate our wedding anniversary, to visit the wineries & the Hunter Valley Gardens. We booked about 3 weeks ahead, & nothing much else was available at a reasonable price, due to a concert that same night in a Hunter vineyard. We paid $170 which included a full buffet breakfast. The motel was quiet despite the motel being fully booked & on a main road. The room was spacious, clean & the bed comfortable. In need of some minor maintenance eg the vanity tap fitting was loose, resulting in water flooding the vanity top when used. We dined at the on-site restaurant that night, prices reasonable but food rather unimaginative. The buffet breakfast was extensive, could have improved with real coffee instead of instant. Staff were very friendly & helpful. Overall, a pleasant no-fuss stay.

Room Tip: Choose a room away from the main road (we stayed in # 8).

We stayed here for one night over the Easter break, and found it to be one of the only places that didnt insist on a 2 night minimum. Rutherford is about 20 minutes drive from the Hunter, so is near enough to base yourself if you are visiting the wineries.

The room was a decent size, had a comfortable bed and the room we had (27) was well back from the road, which was good as it is a fairly noisy road. Everything worked fine, so did the job nicely - we have previously stayed over the road at Maitland City Motel, which was a lot noisier and had a shocking bed - definitely go for this option!

We stayed there on the weekend of the country and western, Staff were very friendly and helpful. A bus picked us up from right out front, to take us to the concert at the winery.
Rooms have internet and are very comfortable and spacious.
As an added bonus, we were able to sit by the pool with Troy Cassar-Daley playing his guitar and singing to us.
Would recommend to stay there.

If you choose to stay here , then be prepared to spend most of the nite listening to drunks
party all nite , and the owners do nothing , its a shame the service was with a smile at first , then changed quickly when you complain the noise at 2.30am
