My wife and I stayed at the Turfcutters Arms over Christmas. We got to know many of the locals in the real ale bar - along with many visitors (and their dogs!). We sampled many of the specials on the board and can assure you every meal was a winner!!!

Strongly recommend this as a pub, grub stop-off or for bed and breakfast!

We stayed in this B&B for one night. The room was a perfect for us, a good size, comfortable bed, kitchen area and a lovely bathroom with big towels. There was a television, video player, hanging space for clothes, hairdryer (bring your own if you are fussy), a comfy chair and a fold out bed for a third guest (which would have made it cramped). Outside the room opened out onto a small patio that was fenced in and had a table and two chairs. The view was a car park/bin area. This didn't particularly bother us as we were not here long enough/weather was not nice enough to sit outside. However, if it was good enough to sit outside (although not the best view) we would not have let this aspect put us off of staying here. The kitchen area was nice but we did not have a hob or microwave which we thought would be really useful if we were staying a few days.

We also really liked the breakfast system. We were left bread (there is a toaster), butter, jam, maramite, orange juice, milk, tea bags, coffee sachets and a range of cereals. This is the sort of breakfast we liked and were happy to have a bit of toast and cereal in the comfort of our room. There was a small table and chairs to sit on. They do offer a cooked breakfast too.

We ate and drank in the pub. Food was good and we really enjoyed the friendly atmosphere. We love pubs so to us a walk around the corner for a few beers and some food was ideal.

The New Forest is a beautiful place to visit and there are plenty of walking and cycling opportunities and this B&B is an ideal base.

Perhaps it was an 'off night' but our image of a friendly welcome, good food in the evening and the enjoyment of a convivial breakfast, together with friends, in an attractive corner of a country inn did not materialise.
Our room in the barn was clean, very well equipped, warm and comfortable. However, the view from the bedroom was far from idyllic, as it looked directly over public recyle bins and the pub's own two large rubbish containers.
The DIY breakfast was provided in the rooms - a large wholemeal sliced loaf was in the fridge, in addition to the individual boxes of cereals, jams and butter. Ideal perhaps for a couple with a small child but how can a sliced loaf be termed a 'continental breakfast'? No fresh coffee, only sachets of Nescafe, not even muffins, crumpets or even thick fresh bread to make toast, for example - let alone croissants, cold meats or cheese, were on offer. We declined the hot breakfast when it was explained that it was brought to the room - eating separately in our own rooms was not what we were expecting.
For its quality, the evening meal, although plentiful, was not good value and certainly not all 'home made'. The steak was the best choice, the soggy, sparcely filled chicken pie, the worst.
The lunch time snacks in this genuinely old, flagged-stone pub would probably have had a very different impression but as an overnight B&B stay, it certainly did not compete favourably with any of the others we have used in this area.

The rooms were clean and well equipped. The sheets were clean but so creased. The shower was either too hot or cold and no power. We had not expected to have catered for our continental breakfast in fact we had expected a cooked breakfast in the pub this was not mentioned on the telephone when it was booked

The room had a little fenced terrace ideal for dogs or small children. However, this looked out onto public recycling bins and a botttle bank. The whole area around the pub was scruffy and uncared for, not quite what we had expected.

The service in the pub was poor and un-welcoming. There was a large amount of food but the quality was poor. For the amount we paid it was verydisappointing compared to the other pubs we have eaten in.

The accommodation was tastefully decorated and with all mod-cons. Think more of a studio flat rather than hotel room, with a couple of easy chairs, dining table, full size fridge and microwave.

The rooms are in an old converted stable block, yards from the open heathland of the New Forest and staggering distance from the pub.

The pub itself is excellent. There is a wide range of beers, with some nice wines as well. Food above average for that sort of pub and a good choice (I expect pubs of this ilk to have good food as standard).

Overall a nicely decorated room and atmospheric pub - all fairly priced. Excellent service throughout.
