A very kind review - thank you very much.
I stayed at the Turtley Corn Mill for a business trip and would highly recommend it to anyone, for business or pleasure.
On arrival, we were taken up to our rooms by a very friendly and pleasant member of staff from behind the bar; there are only 4 rooms which really adds to the homely feel of the whole place. There is an "honesty bar" which is well supplied, with free tea and coffee and then the ability to purchase other drinks and snacks at reasonable prices.
My room was absolutely beautiful - the decor modern and well maintained, the room sparkling clean and a lovely bathroom with a good-sized bath. The bed was huge and very comfortable, and the complimentary toiletries lovely. Attention to detail had been paid to the decor and quality of carpets, rugs etc throughout the accomodation areas, the stairs and corridors leading to the bedrooms. The public rooms for dinner and breakfast are also beautiful; my favourite was the library corner in the dining room which was really cosy.
Breakfast each morning was delicious and generous. Evening meals were also to a very high standard. Throughout our stay, the service was exceptional - very friendly but also professional and courteous. It really did achieve that "home away from home" feel and was a pleasure to come back to each evening after working all day.
I can't wait to go back!!
What wonderful review! Thank you very much indeed for letting us, and everyone else, know how much you enjoyed Turtley.
What impressed at the outset was that, although the bar and restaurant were very busy, the duty manager took the time and trouble to leave his bar duties and show me personally to the two rooms for my family. The rooms are very tastefully furnished and comfortable (even if space was a little limited for e.g. chairs) and the breakfast was excllent. We enjoyed a family birthday lunch and the quality was very good. The only area that did need addressing was that the European waiting staff did seem a little 'green' and could really have done with more support/training.
Okay this place is very good. It really does tick all the boxes of a great bed and breakfast. The rooms were immaculate, the food was excellent, the ale was great, and the location was very Devon.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. The facilities were very nice and the rooms were picturesque and beautiful.
So why not five stars? For the simple reason is I believe this is overpriced compared to similar places.
this is harsh criticism. But on trip advisor unless something ticks the value box I can't give it five stars. I hope to stay there again but will probably be looking for a special offer deal or something similar.
The chocolate fondant is indeed 'epic!'
Have always liked this place for food as we live locally but went back with my two young children and was surprised by how unprepared they are for little ones. Despite advertising that they are welcome and making menu provision for them there are no highchairs. When we asked for some cushions to try and make the very low chair better suited for a one year old we were told that they 'DO NOT HAVE ANYTHING FOR CHILDREN'. Not very helpful. It made a family get together more stressful than need be. Come on Turtley, it won't cost you very much to buy a couple of highchairs!
Its such a relief to know that when I am staying at Turtley the welcome will be friendly, room will be immaculate, the bed sublimely comfortable (I think the down mattress topper is the key) and the food and wine faultless.
I look forward to it every time and can't recommend it highly enough.
