“Nice hotel”
Reviewed 15 August 2013

Birkenhof is a nice hotel with friedly owners and employees. For my taste its to far from Heidelberg that I was visiting so even with a nice big room and a comfy bed, one night was enough for me.
When I looked the hotel up online I got the impression it was situated 3 kilometers from Heidelberg but it was situated 11 km from Heidelberg, but 3 km from Eppelheim where the tram stops, which means a 15 minute walk to get to the hotel.

We stayed here at the end of June 2013 for one night. It was a welcome rest after a 560 km ride on our motorbike from Holland. The room was very pleasant and had a balcony and view over the front garden. The water and juice in the room was very welcome.
We dined in Stephan's restaurant and the food was amazing with friendly and unhurried service .
The staff were very helpful and spoke good English to help compensate for our poor German.
The breakfast was plentiful and very good and was served in the conservatory.
The only reason we marked the service down slightly was because there was nobody available when we came to check out which was a little inconvenient, however, we are being very picky with this point and it did look like a new reception area was being constructed.
The location was rural and quiet and we would definitely stop again.+

After a fun day in Nuremberg, we drove the 134 miles to Heidelberg, the Hotel Birkenhof in Eppelheim in a snow storm. We were so relieved, after coming off the motor way to see and arrive at the Birkenhof Hotel. Located in the countryside but with beckoning lighting. Meet by the friendly owner, we shown to a delightful room (in the annexe) and lo and behold, the hotel had a super restaurant to which we ‘retired’ to after putting our bags in the room. Dinner was delicious and so well served by a ‘to-be’ Heidelberg student. We could not have been more comfortable. A simple breakfast was served in a bright conservatory with plentiful coffee. Strongly recommend the Birkenhof if you are looking for an overnight stop.

Room Tip: Annexe rooms are slightly bigger.

We stayed here in July 2012 for 4 nights and had a great stay. The Hotel is located out in the country and we had a great room with a balcony looking over the farming area. The rooms were big and roomy very clean and they had water and juice in the room. The breakfasts were very good and lots of choice. Do not need heavy breakfasts. It was served in a delightful conservatory. Lots of choice yogart fruit cereal meats cheese breads eggs. The staff were very friendly and helpful and we found they spoke english it is us who are bad for not learning another language. The restaurant Stephans next door was very good and the prices were reasonable. Our only caution is and not regarding the Hotel but getting to it by car when driving thru Eppelheim be aware of the trams you are driving on the tram tracks then a tram appears make sure you get to the other side of the road. But to get to Heidelberg leave the car in Eppelheim in town next to the tram station 4 euros all day and take the tram into Heidelberg 5.50 euro and you are there in 20 mins and no parking hassel in Heidelburg. We did not have a laptop with us but they did have a computer for guests to use and that was good.

We drove to Heidelberg but didn't want to fight the city traffic and parking fees so we stayed at the Birkenhof for four nights and took the tram into Heidelberg. We had an extremely pleasant stay. The hotel was German-modern (i.e., updated interior with a nicely designed traditional exterior) with a separate restaurant and plenty of parking. The morning breakfast was very good and the breakfast room looked like it could be a restaurant itself. It's located in the 'country' next to fields of wheat, and I think barley, with several horse barns nearby. But the town, and tram line, is only 2 miles or so away.

The proprietors, familie Stephan, were very nice and helpful, particularly in where to park to take the tram. Stephan's, their restaurant, had just opened 3 weeks earlier and is excellent. The restaurant staff is young we had a good time talking to them. Our meals there were the best we'd had on our trip.

Room Tip: Every room should be great.

Situated in the nearby countryside of Heidelberg and just outside the small town of Eppelheim this peaceful hotel is a nice stay over. Especially for tourists with cars.
The car park has plenty spaces and with the location of the hotel its very safe.
The hotel is modern and the double rooms have decent space for two traveller's amount of luggage.
Breakfast was fine with a decent selection of buffet food catering for the continental guests.
The hotel owners spoke good English and we had no problems during our two night stay.
I am quite harsh on my marking scale and I give this hotel 3/5 (verging on 4/5) due to the price paid per night and size of room provided.
