“A very special place in a fabulous location”
Reviewed 12 July 2011

Our third stay at C&K, and our first ever review! Yet again we were 'blown away' by the friendly welcome, the beautiful rooms, the gorgeous breakfasts, and the wonderful location. Jane has achieved so very much since our last visit. The Tea Shop is now in full operation, and integrates seamlessly into the B&B experience. breakfasts are freshly, and lovingly prepared. Residents have exclusive use of the rooms until the tea shop opens it's doors later in the morning. We were joined by family and friends on our first morning for breakfast, they all loved it so much that we remained almost for the whole day! Freshly baked scones, cream & jam, pot of tea, glorious weather, outside in the very pretty garden. What more could you ask for?

The rooms are beautifully furnished, very clean and have all that you need for a perfect stay. The bed, and bedding was sumptious and super comfortable. The bathroom superb, equipped with a great shower and toiletries. We stayed in the downstairs 'Contempory Room'.

Very easy to find, and ideally located just far enough from the M25 to maintain the tranquility of a typically english country village.

We are already planning our next visit to beautiful Kent and our next stay at C&K.

We stayed in the corner room - a lovely calm green/lilic theme with pretty curtains, floral prints on the curved wall and a little cottagey window, but not "twee" or too frilly. All was super-clean and the compact shower room was well equipped with toiletries and everything worked well. Wonderful night's sleep in the very comfy bed. Breakfast is whenever you say you want it, just sit wherever you like in the range of tables/chairs which furnish the rooms of the tea shop later in the day. Service is relaxed and laid-back - no fancy tablecloths or posh place settings, but fresh flowers from the gorgeous garden are on the tables. Lovely freshly ground coffee comes in mugs, there are fresh fruit, juices, yogurts, cereals etc to start and then a huge choice of breakfasts from the menu above the counter, all freshly prepared. My pancakes with maple syrup and fresh fruit were gorgeous and filling enough to last me all day, as was the following day's eggs benedict. Although evidently very busy, Jane had time to chat and was very knowledgable about local places to visit, and the history of the lovely building which she has made into such a comfortable place to stay and a great place to eat. Easy parking in the road outside. Very convenient for visitng nearby houses such as Down House, Eltham Palace, Knole etc.

Spent one night here while visiting Down House and other nearby sites. This was a perfect base for my visit and the owner, Jane, was really welcoming and friendly. Would definitely use again and recommend to others.

Cabbages & Kings is a delightful, very carefully designed and converted ex-post office set in the peaceful village of Halstead. It was very easy to find and Jane Whitby the owner made us very welcome. The Corner room, which we had for 2 nights was cosy and inviting. The breakfast menu was as good as or indeed better than many highly rated hotels, which was a real bonus. Having been out for the day an afternoon cream tea was something to be highly recommended and was better than some Cornish cream teas that I have tasted. Jane has also incorporated a small gift shop within the downstairs area, which offers some unique gifts, which we did take advantage of. I would definitely recommend this charming B&B if you are visiting this area.

It was great staying at the Cabbages and Kings B&B. The breakfast was one of the best we ever had in the UK. Fresh fruit, berries, porridge with caramelized apples, pancakes with mapple and fresh fruit... do I need to say more?
The train station is nearby and brought us to London in 20 minutes. Knole House is close and is worth paying a visit.
