What a perfect introduction to Germany! This lovely old castle in the Taunus Mountains is only 45 minutes NW of the Frankfurt International Airport . Due to travel delays and lost luggage, we were late arriving. Our host held open his restaurant for us and cooked us huge portions! He went above and beyond any expectations in dealing with the airline and having luggage delivered in the middle of the night - Many Thanks!!
The rooms were certainly not fancy, but were authentic, clean, with fabulous views and very affordable. I wouldn't want to try and find this place without a GPS Nav in the car, but we were just fine with it. (Recommended by host.) Our host didn't have much English, but all was fine with the help of our phrase books and dictionary. Booking was through the Germany castles network
www.german-castles.biz. Be sure to choose English - this was castle # 563.
Breakfast was huge with everything you could possibly want - boiled eggs, pastries, pate, cold meats & cheeses, different breads & buns as well as all the condiments.
We wandered around this very interesting building next morning and enjoyed the antiques, courtyard with all castle fittings, family tree painted on the wall, suits of armour, etc. We then had a 30 minute picturesque drive down the mountains to the Rhine River where we crossed by ferry and continued on our way.
Overall, a terrific place to start our Germany trip. Only regret is that we only spent one night.
