As many of the other reviewers here, we stayed our last night of the coast to coast cycle route here. The weather was bone chilling fog by the time we arrived, plus a somewhat testing headwind, so it was great to end up somewhere so warm and comforting. Lorraine and Terry are very friendly and full of great stories about the history of the area and also of the route. Both were active members in Sustrans at the time the C2C was created, so it was interesting hearing about how it came about.
The room was very nice - done out with crisp white bedlinen and stripped floors. The showers are slightly unusual. They're those push ones like you get in swimming baths. I noticed some reviews were a bit critical of this. I have to say it didn't bother me - you can easily get a constant flow going by just pushing the button in every so often - and when you think of the logistical problems of getting the water up there it makes sense not to waste it.
The food was plentiful and tasty and the staff were extremely pleasant. All in all, it's an excellent place to spend a night, particularly if you're a cyclist, although it's a good choice for anyone in that neck of the woods.More
