location: its within the recreation centre so its convenient. if you travel by public bus you will alight outside the recreation centre. give a call to the hotel and they will send a mini bus to pick u. bus can only sit about 4 to 5 people. so may need multiple trips if u r in large groups. walking in to hotel is about 700m but the slopes there make it difficult to lug your luggage around there.

room: nice neat and clean. however things r old water heater may not be working well. overheard other guest having issues with watet heater. for my room heater works well at night but not hot anymore in the afternoon. room not sound proofed, can hear next door activities. best part is about the heated mattress, makes the rest warm and comfortable. its cabin style design also made it cosy.

security: no control for people to access room. door only by key lock. compensated by well lit corridor and high freqency of guest movement becaus3 some go for night walk, those whom wishes to see sunrisr will need ti wake by 3am.

food: serves simple local food . but doesnt taste great. personally i find the breakfast horrible. walk over to the stores along car park for tastier food.

staff: im annoyed when i realise one if them provided incorrect information about accessibility to park at night. moral of story ask more then one person for critical info. espcially those that not easily found off the internet.

overall: ok to stay there if u travelling to alishan. not much choice of hotel if u wish to stay within the recreation centre.

Ali-Shan is a very beautiful place to visit. But sadly, all the hotels are either very old and run down, or in bad condition.

Ali-Shan Kaofeng Hotel looked lovely from the exterior of the hotel, but upon checking in at the front desk, we realised that we maybe in for a long uncomfortable night. We arrived at 2:00pm at the hotel and was told that the check-in time for guest is at 3:00pm, this is even after having put in a request for an early check-in.

We were informed to leave our luggage at the front desk (by the main entrance) and to go explore the area before returning to the hotel at 3:00pm to collect the room keys. When we went back to the hotel after exploring the area, our luggages were still at the front desk and have not been brought up to our room.

When we entered our room, we noticed that the wooden flooring was squeaky, the toilet was old and dirty, the bed was hard and stiff and we could hear the kids from our neighbors from the next room wailing away.

We didn't stay in the room for long, except for the much needed rest at night before waking up at 3:00am to go watch the sunrise. After returning from catching the sunrise, we went back to the hotel for breakfast, which was sadly just porridge, salted eggs, bamboo shoots, steamed bun, and peanuts.

We were then informed that we had to check-out the latest by 9:3.0am in order to take the hotel's shuttle to the Transport Station, failing which, we will have to lug our luggages a good 900 meters like we did when we were checking-in the day before.

All said, the only good thing that they had was very good and fast WiFi connection at the hotel.
