“Idyllic white sands in Eriskay”
Reviewed 5 August 2015 for a stay in July 2015

This wee cottage nestels unassumingly in the machair above the most beautiful beach. The cottage was spotlessly clean and well equipped to cater for our needs. I particularly loved the rangemaster stove, which made cooking the crabs and lobsters caught from our pots a delightful experience.

Should the rain come on, there was a good selection of CDs and a few DVDs and games.

The views from the windows were breathtaking, and the beach was a hop, skip and a jump away, ideal for beach-combing, having a barbeque (we even managed a swim - brr!)

There is a great wee Community shop less than a mile away, an easy walk along the beach path or a cycle away. One of our highlights was the showing of Whisky galore in the Community hall - £5 a ticket and there was a bar too. Some people had brought pop corn and this was happily shared around.

Would love to come back and would recommend in a heart-beat - Thank you for a great holiday!

“perfect house on a beautiful beach”
Reviewed 23 September 2014 for a stay in August 2014

the house was clean, well-laid out and had good facilities. Proximity to the beach (seconds away) was excellent and we could walk everywhere around this beautiful island. Walking distance to an excellent village shop, to a good pub with wifi and to the ferry to Barra. Thank you to the owner and family and his hospitality.

“Relaxation - this is the place”
Reviewed 22 September 2014 for a stay in August 2014

This cottage was so relaxing and comfortable we did not want to leave. People on Eriskay are friendly. If you want a meal the Politician is the place to go. White sandy beach and clear blue sea.

“Excellent, very happy indeed!”

Am Beallach Ban is a fantastic cottage on Eriskay - the photos online really do show how it is! From the outside it looks quite small, but it's actually very spacious inside. The house is very comfortable indeed, quite luxurious! A proper kitchen with good-size table for four people, a really nice living room with comfortable couches, a tv and dvd player and also a stereo, and excellent bedrooms and bathrooms. Also provided was a washing machine and a tumble dryer, and there was plenty of hot water for showers etc. The view from every window is delightful - I was mesmerised especially with the view out of the living room, straight on to the beautiful turquoise sea and white sands! The house is also well positioned for the sun – we actually had to pull the blinds down some afternoons due to the blazing sun outside! We also saw some great sunsets (with the sun finally sinking below the horizon at 10.30pm in the month of June) in addition to mysterious sea fog enveloping one of the nearby islands – all very dramatic and great to see!
The house also has a nice garden including a rockery area and a washing line and a gate that leads down to the beach, supposedly where Bonnie Prince Charlie once came ashore. I also very much enjoyed opening the rollerblind in my bedroom each morning to see the small Caledonian MacBrayne ferry in the jetty, about 500 metres or less from the house! The ferry comes across about 4 times a day. Indeed, the location of this house is fantastic - I went across to Barra twice on the ferry (c£13 return) - from the house you can see Barra and other islands. Eriskay itself is quite charming – small compared to South Uist, but good varied scenery including beaches, coves, lochs and the peak/mountain of Benn Sciathan. One day I walked up this wonderful peak - there and back from the house is about 2hours. The views from the top are excellent, as you might imagine!
Eriskay also has a nice pub called the Am Politician - this is about 20 minutes on foot from the house on the twisting and winding hilly road – friendly staff, good food (esp the scallops!!), and many tales and paraphernalia from the Politican wreck (whisky bottles and photos!). There's also a good shop selling groceries, tshirts, household goods etc - pretty much everything you might need! There is however a Co-Op on South Uist that was also very useful – furthermore, at Lochboisdale (i.e. the ferry port you arrive at from Oban) has a bank and cash point, in addition to a tourist office and a hotel.
I would definitely return to this house - spotlessly clean, nicely designed, very comfortable indeed. I could quite happily live there! The house is also very private – pretty much hidden from the road that goes down to the ferry, complete with the ruins of an old blackhouse! I would really recommend this house - top quality, luxurious, wonderful location, beautiful sea, nice local pub etc, and well located with access to Barra and South Uist etc. I really hope to return!
The owners of the house have also been very polite and helpful – they deserve to do well renting this cottage out and I hope that all other visitors enjoy it too!
