“Great Hotel away from the crazy Patong :)”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 August 2012

I love Swissotel so I never really have much bad to say about them.

First of all the staff were 10 out of 10 they were very very friendly :) This is always a good thing.
From the first moment we arrived and got our welcome drinks to the moment we left the staff were there for us any thing we needed.

The room we had was a ONE-BEDROOM POOL TERRACE SUITE it was great for a few reasons you could walk out your room and jump into the pool :) You do not have to walk up the stairs( I know I am lazy but still !! ) One down side if you want to do your own washing there is no where to hang your washing because there is no balcony. But you are in Thailand there is a shop 30 secs walk from the hotel that do a great job for about $1.50AUD a Kilogram( 2.2lb's ).
The rooms were big and nice and had very cold air con and this is great after a long day in the sun :). The water pressure was good in the showers as well. No complaints about the room.

Pool : The pool is great big and deep in some parts. The best part of the pool was the Buy 1 get one free happy hour from 5 to 7 pm in the arvo's I think it was 199baht for 2 drinks I stuck to the long Island Ice Teas that were 10 out of 10 :)

Food: Breakfast was great they did not change the menu while we were there but was still nice tasty fresh food. Dinner was really nice try the salmon.

Location: At First I did not mind the tuk tuk ride into Patong each day because my girl friend wanted to go shopping but after a while it got to much for me any way. For a family or for a couple that just want to relax buy the pool and go into town every now and then this is the hotel for you to stay at nice and quiet and just a great place.

I recommend this hotel :)

Dear Guest, thank you very much for your review and for making Swissôtel Resort Phuket your home away from home during your stay in Thailand. We are very pleased to learn that you and your girlfriend enjoyed your stay and that we have been able to meet and sometimes even exceed your expectations. We thank you very much again for your kind review and we will keep working hard to even further improve our product and services. We are looking forward to welcoming you back very soon again.

We stayed at the Swissotel, Kamala for 5 nights, in a 2 bedroom suite.
The suite was mostly well equipped. It was perfect for my husband and I and our 2 year old daughter. Each room had its own TV and DVD player, as well as the living area.
The bathroom was quite small though, very awkward and there was no bath.
The kitchenette was adequate, with the basics.
The balcony was spacious and pleasant to sit on and watch the rain (wet season).
The cleaning of the suites was different everyday, no consistency with towel folding and they never dried the dishes and put them away, just left them to drip-dry the entire time.
The air conditioning units were VERY noisy as well.
The breakfasts were very good, lots of variety of Asian and Western dishes.
One morning, at 6am, an emergency alarm went off for a few seconds. It was a shocking way to wake up, and thankfully it was a false alarm. Good to know it works though. But we did not come across any information on the procedure to evacuate if there is an emergency.
The pool was great, excellent little kiddies pool for our daughter as well as a fun water slide.
The Kids World looked great too, but unfortunately we did not make as much use of it because our daughter is 2 years old, and required a hired babysitter to look after her if we were not there with her. This changed a lot of our plans.
The gym also did not open until 9am, which is too late. We prefer to do a workout in the morning before breakfast or going off on a day-trip. This should definitely be reviewed.
The staff were all very friendly and helpful.
The location, Kamala, is a bit of a sleepy area (maybe because of the wet season). Whilst we liked the hotel we will probably choose in a different location next time.

Room Tip: If you have young children, don't get a room on the ground floor (if you are worried about swimm...

Dear Guest, thank you very much for taking the time to share your feedback about your stay with us with the travel community. We are very happy to learn that you like our hotel and enjoyed most of the facilities. We as well have taken note of your comments including the opening hours of our gym and the noise level of the air condition in the rooms. We are pleased to inform you that during our current works for improvement of the property the entire A/C system is being maintained and upgraded which will certainly improve the comfort of our guests in regards to the noise. We will also adjust our operation hours at the fitness center which will open from 7 am in future to cater to the needs of our guests. We do also apologize for the false fire alarm during your recent stay and the inconveniences caused. We actually have our emergency and evacuation plan at each guest room door and in case of a real alarm you would have also received detailed instructions through our public announcement system as well as through our team members. Last but not least you are right that compared to other areas like Patong, Kamala is definitely more quiet and during the low season it is even more quiet. But this can also be a big advantage especially for families and guests looking for a more relaxing stay away from the noise and hassle from other areas and still being able to get to Phuket town or Patong within less than 30 minutes by Taxi. Although you will consider staying somewhere else next time, we still hope to have the chance to welcoming you back again soon.

As this was previously a Courtyard by Marriott, the standard is similar to that of say Holiday Inn. As I believe Swissotel tends to be more upmarket, I am not really sure why they decided to add this property.

We arranged for an airport pick-up as we have a 2-year-old and a small baby, and I had previously instructed that I wanted seats for our kids. It's of course cheaper to arrange transportation at the airport, but I don't mind paying for safety taking into consideration the high number of auto accidents in Thailand. However, the car showed up with 2 regular child seats, i.e. great for the 2-year-old but not for the baby. We therefore had to sit with the baby in our lap all the way to the hotel, which is not what I paid for. When you arrange transportation from the hotel, they simply hire one of the guys from the taxi stand outside the hotel, so really if you're looking for safety or luxury; just forget about it.

I'm the equivalent of a gold member with the Swissotel group, and had mentioned this in an email prior to my arrival, but it was not acknowledged on check-in and I had to inform them on what benefits I should receive (such as free breakfast). Since most visitors to this hotel are Korean and Russian tour groups, probably they don't have a lot of loyalty members visiting.

Other than that the kids' club is adequate and entertained our 2-year-old to some extent, and the staff members are courteous. He also enjoyed the small kids' pool as he could walk around there without being disturbed by adults or older kids. As some people have mentioned, the walkway to the beach is a bit of a disaster, and the beach is filled up with trash. Perhaps the situation will improve during high season.

Overall I'll recommend this hotel if you're looking for something affordable and don't expect luxury. If you're looking to party or are on a romantic trip, I'd stay somewhere else.

Room Tip: If you have a baby stroller, staying on the first floor is convenient as the hotel does not have any...

Dear Guest, warm Greetings from Swissôtel Resort Phuket! We hope you are well and thank you very much for taking the time to share your experience about your stay with us. We are concerned to learn that we have not been able to meet your expectations in some areas and please accept our sincere apologies for the inconveniences caused. Regarding your experience with the airport transfer we fully understand your concern and we are actually working on this with a partner company to improve the service provided and ensure a better experience that matches our standards. It is also very unfortunate that you have not been recognized as a loyalty member and please be assured that this does not reflect our standards at all. We will continue to work with our team and intensify our trainings. As you mentioned Swissôtel has just taken over this property and we are still working hard on the improvement of the product and our services, in order to reflect the full range of the Swissôtel standard. We as well have taken note about your comment regarding the walkway to the beach. We are aware of this and since it is an public trek and beach we do only have limited influence on its condition and cleanliness. Nevertheless we actually have just conducted a big cleaning day with our team members on August 20th, where we have addressed this issue to clean the hotel’s surroundings including the access, the underpass, the canal and the beach itself. These activities will be conducted on a regular basis, especially during the low season where the local community is not addressing this issue, to ensure that our guests will be able to enjoy a more pleasant and comfortable ambiance walking to and at the beach. We are happy to hear that your 2-year-old son enjoyed the kid´s pool and our kid´s club and we sincerely hope to have the chance to welcoming you back again in future and prove that we can do even better.

Visited Swissotel Resort in Kamala with family, myself with wife and daughter, my father on his first trip to Thailand & sister visiting from the UK. We booked into a 3 bedroomed villa and found the accomodation very comfortable. Lots of space and a nice balcony/terrace with walk round balcony - great for evening sit outs and chats.

Breakfast buffet while not having the widest choice was adequate and as previously mentioned the egg station was great.

While the location won't suit people looking for nightlife and all trappings of Patong, if you have a family with kids this would be a good choice due to its relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff and great pool with a pool slide that even adults will enjoy. For those interested in taking trips a taxi rank is just outside the hotel with reasonable prices to other places of interest.

Overall I would recommend this hotel and will certainly consider staying here again on my next visit to Phuket.

I spent 6 days with my wife and kids, it was wonderful.
Friendly atmosphere, nice service and great environment for kids.
Value is great, rooms are nice, food is good and service is not bad at all.
The only things that adults will not like is the location which is a bit off, 1 restaurant and a SPA and a bar that are closed by 7:00 pm.
Looking for a really nice place for a 3 days family vacation, Swissotel Phuket is a good choice.

Room Tip: 2 bedrooms suites are nice, only problem is they have 1 bathroom and is a bit small. No elevators.

Dear Guest, warm greetings from Swissôtel Resort Phuket! We hope you are well and thank you very much for taking the time to post a review about your stay with us on Trip Advisor. We are very pleased to learn that you have enjoyed your stay at the Swissôtel Resort Phuket and that you like our service and facilities. We as well have taken note regarding your valuable feedback about our location and the opening hours. Since our hotel is located in Kamala, it is more quiet compared to other areas in Phuket like Patong, but this can also be an advantage especially for families or guests looking for a more relaxing environment. Regarding our pool bar, it is correct that it has the same operation hours like the pool itself, therefore our restaurant which also has a bar is open until 11.00pm. Thank you very much again for choosing the Swissôtel Resort Phuket and we are looking forward to hopefully welcoming you and your family back very soon again.

Our family of five had a lovely holiday here. We were well looked after by the friendly staff who on our arrival offered us drinks in the lobby and arranged for our bags to be taken to our room.
It turned out that our room was on the top floor which I didn't like due to no lifts and a fear of heights, so after requesting a lower floor we were given a room on the ground floor but were charged extra for the privelege even though the rooms were identical???
The living / kitchen area of the room was generous however the one bathroom was tiny. The layout of the hotel offered no privacy as all rooms faced into the pool area and you could see straight into rooms unless the curtains were kept closed. The restaurant was really nice and the food was great and cheap compared to Australia and Fuji within similar hotels. There is also restaurants and a bar just outside of hotel.
We chose to stay outside of Phuket deliberately to avoid noise and crowds which is achieved at this hotel, but after going there I would stay in Phuket next time. I think Kamala was just a bit too quite and far away for handiness.
I would like to mention though that the hotel and staff were fantastic keeping us safe whilst there was a snuami alert, leading us up a mountain( if this happens to you take mossie spray, water, snacks and hand held fan) until the all clear. We later learnt from other tourists that they had not even been informed of the warning by their hotel so had not evacuated, which is fine if the snuami doesn't hit!
This hotel is a good price and overall is a nice base with great staff but not the best location if that is important.

Dear Guest, thank you very much for making Swissôtel Resort Phuket your home away from home while staying in Thailand. We are very happy to hear that you and your family had a great holiday with us. We are also very pleased to learn that you enjoyed our renown friendly and attentive service, as well as our delicious and well-priced creations in our hotel restaurant. The safety and wellbeing of our guests, but also of our team members is very important to us and we always decide to take all necessary precautions in case of emergencies and we are very happy that the tsunami finally did not hit. Although the rooms are the same as you stated, the price difference between the rooms on the ground floor and the ones on higher floors is justified by their proximity and direct access to the pool, hence their more convenient location. Kamala is a more calm area, especially during the low season, but the more busy and noisy areas such as Phuket town or Patong can be easily reached by taxi within 30 minutes. Thank you very much again for your kind review and we hope that you maybe change your mind so we can welcome you back again very soon.

While Patong Beach is the most famous beach in Phuket, I would recommend Kamala Beach rather than Patong, especially for the family trip.
This is my third time to stay at this hotel, I'm always satisfied with everything in this hotel. Whenever I visit Phuket, I definitely stay here.
