“Fabulous!”
Reviewed 10 May 2014

The Andara definitely makes a fantastic impression as you enter the lobby. The vaulted ceiling along with the large statues at the far end combined with all the warm woods is the first indication that you are stepping into a luxury property.

We stayed in the 3 bedroom pool terrace for a long weekend at the end of our diving trip with our three children, ages 17, 14 and 12. The accomodation was huge and stunningly presented with a massive indoor lounge area leading on to the outdoor entertainment area complete with numerous divan chairs and lovely pool. The 3 bedroom terrace actually is a four bedroom and they initially set us up with the front two large bedrooms and a smaller back room with a queen or double bed but quickly opened up (and closed off the smaller room) a larger fourth bedroom which contained two single beds when I requested another bed be put in. The kitchen itself is huge and coffee/tea is provided but we had to ask for extra milk for the coffee. This is the type of property where you shouldn't have to think about the set up as it all should be thought of for you (in my dreams!).

The master bedroom ensuite with dressing room looks out to the pool and is gigantic - the bathroom is fantastic with its indoor as well as outdoor netted shower - it felt quite decadent with its two person tub! The other bedroom fronting onto the terrace was also very spacious, not anywhere as large as the master but still generous if you hadn't yet seen the master. The back twin-bedded bedroom (looking out to the private entrance) was large and comfortable as well. All beds were extremely comfortable and luxurious and provided for a wonderful night's sleep. Given the number of villas and the size of the villas, I am sure it is hard to maintain the opulent feel but since I expected perfection based on the overall appearance of the hotel, I noticed that the outdoor shower which was supposed to be completely netted was torn in many places and the closet doors didn't close properly - somewhat small nit picks on the overall grandeur!

We had a lunch, dinner and a few breakfasts in the restaurant and didn't have a problem with securing a table at any time. At dinner, the Thai choices were very good but the Western dishes were just average. Breakfast was quite good (nothing extravagant) but solid choices with the buffet filled promptly and you can linger.

Personal service is excellent - Daniel, the manager, and Pascal, the assistant manager, made a point of introducing themselves and chatting whenever we came across them. There is a strong sense of hospitality throughout.

Overall, an excellent choice if you want to immerse yourself in luxury!

Dear KimofOz,
First of all I would like to thank you for your two small but very important “nit picks on the overall grandeur”! We have currently entered the slightly less busy summer season and this is the time of the year were we have time and availability to make our way throughout the property and fix such defects. As you mentioned in your very nice and extensive review we have a lot of wood in our property and wood lives and deforms. This keeps us very nicely busy throughout the entire year with maintain, maintain and maintain… 
Our relatively new Western Chef Miguel is making his way to upgrade our initially only Thai Fine Dining restaurant to an equally high standard Thai and Western restaurant and we are currently working on new recipes and menus. We apologize if the standard of certain dishes were not yet up to the top standard of the rest of our property but I am very confident that we will get there very soonest.
Thank you very much to you and your family for enjoying the last weekend of your holiday with us. It is an immense pleasure to read that you had such a great time with us and I can’t thank you enough for your beautiful review and compliments.

My wife, 1 year old, and parents stayed at Andara for a family vacation. We were greeted at the airport by a friendly Andara employee who picked us up in a large passenger van, equipped with a carseat for my 1 year old (unexpected and very much appreciated). Check in was quick, we were given a cold beverage, beautiful lei and were quickly escorted to our room after having the pleasure of meeting Pascal, the hotel manager. We originally booked a 2 bedroom pool suite, but were pleasantly surprised to see we had been upgraded to a much larger 4 bedroom pool suite. The extra 2 bedrooms were locked, but the general living space was much larger than the room we originally booked. The villa was absolutely breathtaking!! We had more space then we knew what to do with. The private plunge pool was gorgeous, had a beautiful view of the bay and thoroughly enjoyed the multiple outdoor showers, one off the master bedroom and the other by the pool. The fully equipped kitchen was stunning and came in handy many times since the hotel offered free rides to the local grocery store.
We frequented Silk, the restaurant at the hotel multiple times throughout our stay. The menu was huge with multiple different styles of dishes to choose from. The food and service was excellent, even had a great selection on the children's menu. One of the nights, we had a team of chefs come to our hotel room and prepare a private dinner for us in our room. I recommend EVERYONE try this!!! I wish we would have done this every night. Price was very reasonable, chefs were friendly, made sure we never ran out of food or wine and left us with lots of leftovers at the end of the night.
We were looking for an upscale, private hotel and this is exactly what we received. We could have honestly never left the hotel and been perfectly happy. The staff was very friendly, efficient and personable. We really appreciated all the time the hotel manager took to come visit with us and make sure we always had everything we needed. My family and I cannot wait to return to Andara for another vacation.

My Wife, 2 x children and I recently stayed at the Andara Resort. It was fantastic. Our original Suite was superb, our own plunge pool, very spacious, close to the pool, close to the restaurant, foyer and gym however we were advised mid holiday by Pascal the Manager that our room had a plumbing issue and we would have to relocate which took us by surprise. We were relocated to Villa 6 high up on the hill. We had our own Maid, 18m long lap pool, garage, magnificent pool, we lost count of how many bedrooms, bathrooms, gazebo, lounge rooms x 4, ponds, gardens, foyers and list goes on. Not a bad upgrade !! Loved Villa 6 so much we plan to take the entire family back at Christmas.

We managed to experience the Thai new year when in Phuket which was certainly entertaining. The Thai people throw water at you in many varying ways from buckets, to cups, hoses and water pistols. Be prepared to be soaked for the whole day. A great experience.

The hotel has a buggy service to take guests down to two different beach locations when you require this service. The service works well and efficient.

The staff are very attentive and were more than friendly.

Recommend booking for restaurant as it does fill up of an evening as there is only the one restaurant.

Looking forward to returning. Thankyou Pascal for the room upgrade.

Dear 12madijack,
Terribly sorry again for the water issue occurred in your original unit but in a property like Andara with so many rooms each with individual bathroom, ponds and pools unfortunately it happens from time to time that there is a leaking. Fortunately we manage to limit those incidents to an absolute minimum pretty well. My sincere apologies that you had to suffer these circumstances. I am very glad that we were able to make the room move successful and your holiday in Villa 6 was so great and memorable.
Thank you very much for your amazing and praising review and your description of our Villa 6 is beautifully visual!
“Songkran” the Thai New Year or also called the water festival every year between April 13 – 15. The main day all over Phuket is on April 13 and Andara celebrates a Songkran party on April 15. I agree with you that this festival is one of the greatest times of the year! The whole country actually is celebrating and everyone is happy and smiling. But as you mentioned it is definitely not the day to be in Thailand if one doesn’t like to get wet! 
Please do not hesitate to contact me directly at pascal@andaraphuket.com for your booking coming Christmas or then latest next year Songkran. Many thanks again for your review!

The location is nice and quiet - close to patong 10 mins taxi ( 400 baht) but nice beach in kamala and not much to do

the property is well maintained condominiums rented back to hotel . Our room was huge...2 bed rooms with baths and large kitchen dining and lounge area..

hotel food is good but only one restaurant and very expensive

the beach shuttle is great but the lounge areas are not so well maintained or serviced

breakfast is fine but not 5 star standards and vary in quality and offering, service is well meant but not so good as staff just stand around and don't really pay attention to guests

pool is lovely with nice views, clean water and good staff helping with towels etc .

hotel transfer was late to pick us up and then charged at 4000 baht in a basic van that i rented for 1000 baht back to airport myself not sure how or why they justify this kind of mark up

room cleaning varied from day to day and often needed a call to actually come and clean

they need to learn from four seasons how to lift the game to the level of price they are charging

we had a good deal rate via web deals ...and were happy overall....but at full price i would have been not impressed and still would only rate this 4 star maximum

Room Tip: try to ensure balcony view of the sea as its a beautiful bay to watch

Dear danieson,
Thank you very much for your review and critics. I will definitely share the compliments but even stronger the suggestions with our team. It is surely not our level of standard to have a low attention and service mind amongst our teams at the beach and in the restaurant and I will surely give our teams strong trainings to be at 150% at any time.
Please accept my apologies for the late pick up at the airport. This is definitely a no go and we are sincerely sorry for that. Unfortunately as you’ve surely seen during your stay the traffic in Phuket is very unpredictable and even a 30 minutes early departure from the hotel can sometimes end in a 10 minutes delay. This should not be an excuse for the late pick up and I would like to apologize once more for that incident. It is indeed a fact that our prices are slightly higher than a regular taxi due to the level of service, quality of vehicles and the training of the drivers. This puts us under slightly different laws of price calculation than a local taxi. I trust you understand.
We only have one restaurant at Andara Resort & Villas which is the renowned “Silk” operated since many years in Phuket. Silk is famous for its Thai fine dining but also serves a wide array of western dishes. Further to that we offer various in-villa dining experiences and we serve also lunch at our Beach Lounge at the north end of Kamala Beach. Unfortunately the size of our resort and the fact that all our villas come with private chef didn’t yet justify a second restaurant but we are currently looking into a new project for an additional dining experience at Andara.
Thank you very much also for your comments about the breakfast. We will definitely go over our breakfast offer to improve towards perfection and consistency.
Once more I’d like to take the opportunity to share our deepest appreciation for your review and your help to bring Andara to the highest level of standard.

Stayed here over New Years with family.

Check-in was pleasant. No problems with paperwork, manager said hello.

i initially booked into 3 bed suite. Wasn't up to standard quite honestly (no view, not private, odours from kitchen etc). But after a bit of a back and fourth, there was a last minute cancellation to a villa (my original plan) which they offered to show me (for an paid upgrade, not free). It was stunning. Superb view, great pool, sala, huge living room with enormous couches/tv/seating area. Two wonderful staff (one maid, one chef) who stayed there 24/7. both were extremely good, though English was sometimes a little lacking (as was the case generally tbh - but if you persisted they got there). the Asian food was superb (best ever mussaman curry i've ever had). western was hit and miss. we had some friends over for bbq - again very good but a few things were 'lost in translation'.

Ate in Silk a few times, but wasn't overwhelmed. not 'bad', but not outstanding. didn't have a drink by the pool, view from villa was far better. plus stocked up on beers/snacks from Big C. we had a deal which included breakfast which was fine (cooked by staff in villa, but limited). if you wanted something from Silk then you had to pay for it (room service basically). again fine.

i had one massage, and my wife two, but only ok standard quite honestly. the spa itself was fine, but not of the standard over at say, banyan tree.

Master suite (which is a separate 'villa' basically on the entry level) is glorious. huge bedroom area, big changing room, double sinks, etc. Very private from rest of villa. almost too private though, especially if you have kids as the other rooms are downstairs. Other rooms also great size, with big en-suites (but no views). Also has a separate tv/sitting room area (good for movies) downstairs - again with a see-it-from-space tv. Plenty of towels, comfy beds but perhaps given the cost the toiletry amenities might be higher standard/brand.

Views were amazing (especially on New Years Eve with fireworks going off everywhere), pool was great, sun deck very private; villa in excellent condition overall. You don't get the full sunset experience as the resort sort of faces northwest. Beach is close. There is a family friendly club, and then more grown up lounge. Never had to wait long for the buggy (in either direction) and was max 10 mins to the one further away. beach itself is lovely, clean sand, warm water, but was busy. local village was fine. wouldn't be spending too much time in there.

So, overall, as you can read its very hard to fault any of it. they recovered from the early hiccup nicely. the rates, though, make the bar for service and quality very, very high - which they don't quite reach. even though, to be fair, they do very nearly get there. but really it should be flawless for this kind of coin.

Dear WharfTrader,
Thank you very much for your review, your compliments and also your criticism. It is our greatest goal to be flawless and thus we are very thankful for honest constructive criticism which gives us the opportunity to aim for perfection.
First of all, I would like to thank you for all the compliments towards staff, food, facilities, beach and services. It is good to hear that in general you had a great holiday and we appreciate your extensive review.
Further to that I’d like to assure you that we will take your suggestions very serious and I will surely look very closely into the mentioned lacks of top standard with our team at the Spa, F&B department and also our English teachers. It is indeed a fact that unfortunately the English education level in Thailand is still very low and we are in an ongoing process with an entire team of teachers to improve that at Andara Resort & Villas.
Thank you also for the suggestions towards improvement of western food. Our new Western Chef Miguel and I are currently working on new recipes and menus to improve the western section of the kitchen to the standard of our Asian section.
Please allow me to thank you once more for your review and we hope to be able to welcome you again in the future to show the progress in our never ending pursuit for perfection.

We had a one bed suite and it was huge, plenty of space for my baby to explore. The staff were very friendly and the service was good (though housekeeping struggled with english). Had a great thai massage at the spa. It was great having the kitchen so I could russle up some meals for my baby. When we arrived we did a shop at the Big C supermarket nearby. The resort's shuttle drops you off at the beach but they will also pick you up at the Big C supermarket which was handy with all our bags.

Dear Brit8,
Thank you very much for your review and your compliments. It is great to hear that you enjoyed your stay at Andara Resort & Villas and especially with your baby. As we all know, happy kids = happy parents!
It is indeed a fact that the English level in the back departments of the hotel is not as advanced as in the front of the house. This is mainly due to the fact that most of the kids coming out of their education still have a rather low Basic English level. We have here at Andara a fulltime English teacher but with the size of the hotel unfortunately it is quite a long process to train all staff.
Many thanks again for your review and we hope we are able to welcome you and your family again in the future.

Reviewed 18 April 2014

We are a family of 4 who stayed in a 2-bed penthouse pool apartment in April 2014.

The hotel and grounds were beautiful and perfectly kept. The staff were extremely professional and very friendly, couldn't do enough to help.

The apartment was huge, comfortable and beautifully decorated, with a large terrace on the same level and a private rooftop pool with lovely decking areas with lounger chairs and sun beds. The spiral staircase up to the pool was very steep, so our children had to use the main communal stairs to get up/down esp with wet feet. If I were to go back I'd probably be more tempted with the apartments with pool directly outside the patio doors.

The only complaint I'd have about the room itself was the curtains let in quite a bit of light in the mornings, and the shower could have been more powerful (took a LONG time for the hot water to come through) but overall it was great.

The main pool area is beautiful and the pool temperature perfect (I'd guess around 33c).

There is only one restaurant, Silk, which has indoor and outdoor seating. The food, service, wine etc were all fantastic. The menu was extensive with both Thai and international cuisine. Some of the best food we've ever had, and for a 5 star hotel really quite reasonable. We normally like to have a number of restaurants to try, but Silk was so good it really wasn't a problem at all.

The pool bar was also great - friendly staff, great drinks choices (although no draft beers) and good prices. The happy hour (half price) covers all drinks and runs for 3 hours!

Fantastic kids club with very friendly staff, and right next to the restaurant and pool so couldn't be more convenient. Our children (6 & 8) loved it.

We didn't try any Spa treatments but the Spa looked great.

The hotel isn't on the beach. It does run 2 beach areas ('club' and 'lounge'). These were quite nice, with a small bar and snacks, and the (public) beach itself has soft sand and feels safe and uncrowded. Both are accessed by motor-buggy, taking around 5 minutes or so. The small town, which the hotel is on the edge of, had a number of restaurants but with Silk being so good we didn't try any of them.

We did go to a highly recommended Thai restaurant, Baan Rim Pa, in Patong, about 15 minutes away, which was great. However, although this was rated as the top Thai restaurant in Phuket, I'd say Silk was even better.

Overall I'd highly recommend Andara.

Dear thorpdar,
Thank you so much for your detailed compliments and your very constructive comments. It will help us to improve even more. The spiral staircase is indeed a very stylish and decorative way up to the pool and not really thought for running up and down on it with wet feet. Thus as you correctly mentioned we have the main staircase in the back area were a safe up and down is guaranteed, even running with wet feet.
Thank you very much for your comment about the curtains. A very good point to add an additional shade curtain, which I will definitely look into with my housekeeping staff. Not every guest wants to get up at 6.15h in the morning to see the sunrise, I agree!
Further to your point regarding the heating of the water in the shower, unfortunately due to the large size of our units, the lengths of the pipes is slightly longer than in other resorts. This obviously takes slightly longer to transport the hot water from the boiler to all the bedrooms. I will although look into the unit where you stayed since it still shouldn’t take much longer than a few seconds.
A large thank you also from the F&B side of our resort and our team at Silk were most happy to read your overall great feedback about the restaurant. We will consider taking draft beer into our menu for your next visit and of course continue working at our positioning in the ranking of the best Thai restaurant in Phuket. 
Many thanks again for your extensive and beautiful revue and we hope to welcome you and your family soon again at Andara Kamala.
