Sunprime Kamala Beach
Ranked #8 of 35 Hotels in Kamala

This large and very impersonal hotel was a real disappointment. The hotel has extensive facilities and is nicely located by the rather busy beach. There are a number of swimming pools but getting a sun lounger can be a challenge even in low season! Most seem to be reserved despite notices to the opposite and the staff seem not to care.

Indeed the staff seem not to care about anything. And at no stage during my 5 days did I see any manager. The staff, at best, could be described as indifferent - although on a very few rare occasions individual members of staff did acknowledge me and even say hello. But generally they didn't seem to care - from the porter bordering on rudeness when moving my luggage (having been initially allocated a room with a balcony almost completely obscured by a tree) to the cashier on checkout who, having been assured several times that the minibar item I had been incorrectly charged for was not correct eventually checked and then merely said, in a grudging manner, "wrong room". No apology.

A further example of the 'couldn't care less' attitude was a waitress at breakfast who dropped and smashed a cup which had clearly been half full. She checked that her mobile phone in her apron was not damaged but made no attempt to clean up the mess on the floor and merely continued clearing tables.
The hygiene standards were unacceptable - the trolley for dirty plates and the slops bucket was very close to the food servery.

I could go on about the large number of individually relatively trivial issues which taken together can make the difference between a good and bad overall experience. But I have to mention the difficulty, having booked and paid for a more superior room, to get moved when my initial room was right next to the noise of cars arriving and not having a pool view at all was a very disappointing start to a less than happy stay.

I am aware of a number of good reviews for this hotel. I was traveling as an independent traveller on my own and I suspect many visitors are part of tour groups etc and the hotel relies on those reps to do their job of supporting and giving information to guests.

The information provided on arrival was poor and with such a large complex with different blocks and facilities some basic information about where things were located would have been helpful. Instead the receptionist merely pointed in the direction of my room. On occasions when I did ask staff for directions or information, such as where I could get the pool towels, I was invariably just told "over there" "up there" or "down there" pointing to another part of the hotel but without really helping. But, as I have said, it seems like the staff just couldn't care.

We stayed here for 11 wonderful nights. Clean and close to the beach. Pools were fantastic. Nothing to complain about. We plan on returning in 2015. One of the best places we have ever been. you wont be disappointed.

I would definitely recommend this resort! The hotel is a good 4 star hotel and in the resort you will find everything you need in a holiday. Easy access to beach (there aren’t public toilets in the beach), massages (by the pool no reservation needed), easy access to gym and training classes, ATM, reasonable prices in the minimarket ( so no need to find any other), cheap and good thai food in the hotels own restaurant (by the sea was lovely), you can book your trips from the hotels own travel agent which is opposite to the reception....needless to say more. Holiday really made easy, no reason to step out! By the kamala beach there were few good restaurants Salt and pepper and a restaurant next to it.

Also the Kamala village itself was lovely! Peaceful and quiet! Note that there seriously are no bars or bubs. So spending a holiday in Kamala is for those who want to relax and going to bed early and just enjoy the various trips.

Party is at the Patongs bangla road, shopping and good international style restaurants at Patongs Jung Ceylon shopping center (restaurants such as Wine connection and “Southern American steakhouse”). Taxi to Patong is 400 BHT, so easy to go as well! I definitely would recommend going there at least once.

Compared to the Karon and Kata beaches were we spend our other week, the Kamala beach was heavenly! I am definitely going back to this resort someday.

Go to the phi phi trip by spead boat (andaman tropical), it was excellent!

Room Tip: Junior suite by the pool!

I spent two weeks at this hotel with my husband as part of "The contrasts of Thailand " holiday offered by Saga travel. When we arrived at Phuket airport it was a scene of confusion with no Saga rep there to meet us . We kept together and eventually a rather scruffy lady who didn't seem to speak much English arrived to supervise our transfer which is very unusual for Saga as they take pride in their staff both at arrivals and departure being helpful and efficient. We were told to board mini busses and leave our luggage by the side of the road to be picked up by another vehicle. We all refused to leave the airport until our luggage was safely on board and I can't think why a large coach want sent for us. Consequently we were very late arriving at the hotel and were all very disgruntled. Later Tom our rep apologised on behalf of Saga but this should not have happened. At first sight we thought that the hotel resort was very basic and rooms quite sparsely furnished but we soon realised that these negatives were outweighed by the wonderful food and efficient and friendly staff. A special thank you goes to our super Saga rep Tom who was never too busy to answer questions or give us some friendly advice even checking us in on line for our return journey home. His local knowledge was outstanding and he must be one of the most efficient holiday reps that we have ever had. Also thanks to Lerm ,Kob and Aonjai who served us our drinks in the bar not forgetting RJ, Ken,Lee and John (he has great potential as a future hotel manager)
The hotel itself was an adult only resort which was really appreciated by our Saga group. The pools were kept immaculately clean and you could always find a sunbed as they were plentiful and the hotel policy was no reservations before 9.30 .. A very good idea.
The Saga drink selection could have been a little more varied but the food was absolutely wonderful and this is where the hotel really excels. As well as a vast Thai food menu there were always tempting salads, beautiful fish dishes and succulent chicken and steaks. I am sure that you could stay for three months here and never get bored with the food and it was possibly the best food that we have had on this type of holiday. Each Thursday a Cabernet show would be staged with an amazing buffet including fresh seafood, roast and BBQ meat and some great sushi.
The presentation was superb and all the staff worked very hard to ensure that everyone had plenty to eat. The rooms were kept very clean as were the grounds but the only downside was that the porterage was not very well organised as when we arrived at the hotel it took almost an hour for our cases to be brought to the room and on checkout the porters forgot to pick our cases up and luckily we noticed just in time before our coach arrived.
The hotel spa is very reasonable and no appointment required a very relaxing experience with competent staff.
I can thoroughly recommend this hotel and congratulate the management on their efficient and friendly staff.

Room Tip: We requested a room on a lower floor with a walk in shower and that is exactly what we were given.

We travelled with Saga on an all inclusive package and upgraded to a larger room. Everything was excellent - especially the Thai food in the restaurants for both lunch and dinner. We tried the buffet dinner a couple of times, but reverted to the a la carte menu as we could choose what we wanted, rather than what the restaurant put out for us. Once a week there is a show with an extensive buffet meal - well worth going to. As others have said this is in a great location and sitting having dinner overlooking the ocean is just bliss. All of the staff are very friendly and want to please you. I would certainly recommend it. Note to hotel - please introduce free wifi in rooms, as having to walk to reception for free wifi access each time is tedious.

Room Tip: Upgrade to a larger room

It is a large hotel divided in two, one half for families and the other for adults only. Can only comment on the adult side, but all was peaceful and heard nothing of the young children. The rooms were clean but basic and only hot water in the bath. There are ways around this to get hot water in the sink for a shave. Ample storage and hanging space. Comfortable furniture on balcony. Plenty of pools for the adults with bars nearby. Beach could get quite busy but we did not find it a problem. Food. there are two restaurants on the adults only side. The buffet has advantages and disadvantages i.e. as much food as you want but not always at the right temperature. The food in the Al a carte restaurant was amazing. The staff were brilliant having to deal with a number of different menus and a number of different languages. Could not fault the tireless work rate of the very friendly staff or the quality of the food. We were not disappointed. Now to try and loose a few pounds. WiFi in the lobbies and you could have it in your room for an extra fee. Yes we would go back

Room Tip: The rooms that are upstairs near the entrance are the newest and have lifts, overlook one of the poo...
