“Kamala Holiday”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 September 2012

We recently stayed at this resort in the "Luxury Jacuzzi Villa" advertised as the best villa in the resort. The room is photographed deceptively to look larger on the website, in fact it is quite small and the balcony with the outdoor pool is also a tight squeeze. The curtains inside were stained and dirty and the rooms were dark and tired with very poor lighting. There certainly was no luxury or anything stand out about this villa and would be 2 star at best. For the money we paid we definitely would have had better at another resort.

The views and the grounds are beautiful but they come at the cost of a lot of VERY steep pathways to get to the reception or pools. If they didn't have the golf cart to ferry you it would be absolutely awful.

The breakfast buffet was just ordinary. People buying the holidays deals beware, dining in the resort and drinks in the swim up bar is expensive in comparison to other resorts. There are nice restaurants nearby or in Kamala.

Very over rated a lot of negatives, would not recommend this resort, 6 days was enough.

We were very happy knowing that we had another 10 nights of real luxury at our favourite resort in Karon.

On our recent trip to Thailand we spent some time at Aquamarine, when we arrived we were greeted with a cool drink and a smile. The layed back check-in on the balcony taking in the views was great.

Our room was good, the pool and pool bar was also good. We enjoyed a few meals here and the food was always tasty.

It was good to get out of the hussle and bussle of Patong and back to our Hotel for a nice relaxing sleep after a hectic day.

My partner & I have just returned from our Wedding & honeymoon which was held at the Aquamarine. The staff went above & beyond and exceeded all our expectations. The planning that went into the day was amazing and it made for a romantic & memorable day. The restaurant served tasty meals all served by friendly welcoming staff. A special mention to Pooky who went out of her way to look after us and make our stay very special. All topped off by refreshing drinks around the pool from the wonderful Weerasak, who always welcomed us with a friendly smile and top quality service.

Although it is far away from Patong Beach and is seriously nothing much around that area, I like this place, from the room to their service.

The staff there are very friendly especially those in the concierge/bell counter. Front desk staff looked abit of too cool to me.

Room is amazing to me. No lift to our room. We need to climb two levels up to our rooms which my parents were complaining every time we were out and back. But somehow I like this. The room deco is not very modern and have an old time feel. Most of the furniture in the room are made by wood. If you are looking for modern and contemporary room, this is definately not your cup of tea.

There is balcony attached to every room and mine is facing the swimming pool and sea. I was sitting at the balcony and looked at the sea when I was waiting for my room service to be served. The feeling is so great and I am happy that I make the right choice.

My boyfriend and I had purchased a deal from groupon.sg for a 3D2N stay at this hotel.

Planning - Making reservations was easy enough. They did take quite some time to reply to my initial e-mail though.

Arrival - I had arranged for a return airport transfer service so getting to the hotel from the airport was no issue. The journey was abt 15-20 mins. The hotel offers an airport transfer service as well but we went ahead with phuketshuttle instead as it was cheaper. You can check out their website, http://phuketshuttle.com/. The rates vary depending on how many passengers there are and what kind of vehicle you choose to pick you up.

First Impressions (longest check-in ever) - The resort looked exactly like in the pictures, it wasn't disappointing upon first glance. The resort is located on a hillside so the view is quite something. We were informed that check-in was at 12pm and we had arrived on time. However, upon our arrival and after checking-in at the reception, we were told that our rooms were not ready yet and that we had to wait for about a half hour. We ended up waiting 2 hrs for our room.

Room - When our room was finally ready, we were taken up to a building higher up on a steep hill on a golf buggy. We were suddenly struck by how much we had to walk just to get from our room to the main building.
The room itself however was lovely. Again, exactly like how it was pictured with very pretty traditional looking furniture and small balcony for you to chill out. The bathroom also was lovely with earthy colours and tones. And best of all, it was CLEAN. We experienced a water pressure issue with our shower though, it took almost forever to finish showering because the water basically trickled from the shower head.
The view from the room is serene and calming, however night time can be a bit scary there are banana trees everywhere when you look down from your balcony.

Hotel Grounds/Facilities - The hotel has two pools. The deeper one on the higher level has a bar and the smaller on on the lower level has a few water massage decks you can lie on to relax. Both were beautiful. And CLEAN.

We suspect the resort is fairly new as some areas of the hotel were still being renovated so as far as recreational areas go, there weren't much options. There was a sad excuse for a pool/library room where we tried to pass time in while waiting for our room to be ready. It had one pool table inside which looked to be very old and even had a hole at the bottom so some of the balls came flying out. The books and magazines were outdated and uninteresting and mostly not even in English. Hopefully this room was a temporary solution until the renovations were over.

Food/Dining - The food was decent, just check the cutlery before using them. The fruit smoothies were awesome !

Staff - Most were friendly, but one staff in particular didn't look too happy to help when asked. Not all the staff speak English, so get ready your hand gestures.

Checking out - Checking out was fast and simple. As our flight was not for another 5 hrs, they were nice enough to open another room for us just so we could use the bathroom to freshen up before actually leaving the resort for the airport.

Surrounding area - Kamala Beach is about 10 mins away but the resort's hilltop location makes it difficult to go anywhere by foot. So ideally, you would have to have a vehicle to get in and out. I would suggest renting a vehicle (car/scooter). It's about a half hour drive to Patong Beach where most of the action is so we spent quite a fair amount of $$$ just traveling by taxi - not worth it. Rent a scooter or stay in a hotel nearer or along Patong Beach for more activities.

Overall a pleasant trip but don't think I'd be going back there.

Room Tip: All the rooms are nice and clean. Ask for a room nearer to the main building or hotel lobby to avoid...

Don't stay here from my traveling experience in many countries.

You can find much better & cheaper hotel or resort elsewhere.

I am typing this review while I am staying in this resort on my fourth day today.

I want to caution all of you out there that be prepared to:

1)Nasty service from staffs (this is the only hotel/resort I have stayed to experience this). If you have the extra money and want to experience very rude people, you may like to try this 3 star resort.
2) Incompetent staffs who cannot understand English at all, cannot do what you request from reception to room service even the most basic needs.

While I buy the Internet which is the chop-off from the rude reception staff, it cannot be access the first time. I told the staff that all these not acceptable and she changed it. Finally I got the access to warn you guys.

I will write a more detail review on this terrible place when I return to Singapore.

My Husband and I have just returned from a 6 night stay at the Aquamarine Resort.

Our first impression of the Resort was that it was very outdated but clean nevertheless. Check in went smoothly and we had no issues.

When we got to our room again first impression was that it was dated but clean. The beds are so uncomfortable and so hard it was sleeping on the floor! The view from the delux ocean view room is great.

We ate at the restaurants only because the distance to Patong is about 10-15 minutes by taxi or tuk-tuk (about AU$12). The food was ok nothing fantastic and as expected with any Resort expensive. The staff at the restaurants were friendly however the bar and pool staff were very unhelpful, slow and rude. I would suggest saving time and money by going to the 7/11 down the road and buying beers there, much quicker and cheaper (we did this and ended up getting 24 beers for a little under AU$20 .

Like most people have mentioned previously, the Resort is located on quite a steep hill so if you have any difficulties with fitness or injury do not even consider this Resort.

The Resort does offer shuttle bus into Patong 3 times a day but you have to find your own way back (we paid about 400bht one way which seemed to be the going rate). But you do have to book 1 day ahead to be guaranteed a seat.

All in all the Resort is cheap, clean and has great views BUT some of the staff are rude, it is outdated and the beds are rock hard. Like anything though you really do get what you pay for though but we won't be returning.
