My partner and I stayed at the Thai Villa room in the Aquamarine. It was a lovely villa facing out to the Andaman Sea. There was plenty of space and best of all they didn't fill up the fridge with mini bar items that we would never consume anyway.

The hotel was in a lovely location perched above Kamala Beach. There was a shuttle service to both Kamala Beach and Patong Beach, saving money on taxis. Taxis are absolutely extortionate in Phuket - charging 200 baht for a single trip from Kamala Beach back to the hotel and 400 baht for a single trip to or from Patong. Having the shuttle bus probably saved us about 2000 baht.

We also took advantage of the pools at the hotel - the swim up bar was a lot of fun. There is a happy hour at the swim up bar from 3-4pm every day and at the Horizon lounge happy hour is from 5-7pm and 10-11pm every day.

Breakfast was decent though there could have been more variety. The staff at breakfast were always friendly.

My main complaints were a) our key cards failed multiple times though thankfully someone would quickly give us a new key and b) there were two bellboys who positioned themselves in the room after bringing in our luggage on the first day and would not leave until they were given a tip. I want to emphasise that the rest of the staff were not like this and were very friendly, but the behaviour of these bellboys was quite disappointing. Even in the US, where tips are expected, I've had to chase after bellboys to give them their tips.

Room Tip: It's worth spending a little extra for a villa!

Booked for the value-added package and had to spend time explaining to the staff about the additional items that are included in the package (every time we mentioned about late check-out). The staff seem like they did not know the packages available at the hotel.

Breakfast variety was 2/5.

Room is a little worn but okay. Drawback: spotted a large cockroach and a lizard in the room.

There are 2 pools and many deck chairs. There's also a small slide, think kids will love it.

Plus Points:
They have 3 shuttles to & forth to Patong, which is great as each way via taxi is min 400 baht.
Daily shuttles to Kamala beach
Secluded peace
Pool

Cons:
Expensive taxi rides, suggest to rent a car if possible. (To patong 400 baht, to airport 800 baht)
Poor follow-up from reception/ concierge service

Ps: I took a metered taxi from airport to hotel and it costed 700+ baht, not much difference from taking those private taxi, so just get a clean and new ride to get to hotel)

Room Tip: Request for the block just beside the lobby, block 4.

Aquamarine is quiet, and a little out of the way so it was great for us as we didn't want a busy and full on experience (such as you get when staying in Patong). However, when we did want to go to Patong a shuttle from the hotel provided convenient and hassle free transport to and from there. The pools here are very clean and inviting while Kamala Beach, just down the road offers safe and enjoyable swimming. I've definately had better buffet breakfasts but in saying this, the breakfasts were adequate. The staff here were quite friendly and helpful when you asked the right questions!

Room Tip: Go for a seaview room for only a little extra cost.

The hotel is generally dated and overrun by large packaged tourist groups. Our bathtub is old and very moldy... Breakfast was disappointing too. First day arrived at the hotel, I found we given used coffee cup and uncleaned teaspoons in our room, very disappointed. We didnt even get these in our backpacker days . I took them to the management and asked them to exchange for clean sets. But after 35 minutes, nothing happened. I called the operator and requested for clean sets, they hung up on me before I even finished up my sentence....!!!! Next day we tried to book a tour, guess what they were too busy talking to each other and ignored us, But thanks to that we found a better, cheaper tour somewhere else in town.
For the hotel management, most of us worked hard and saved a bit of money for a holiday, we really do not deserve this type of treatments. Try to see us a person not just a walking legal tenders. Tourists do derserve a little bit of respect and care!!!

Cons: We stayed here for 4 nights with a low-season 'Amazing' package offered on their website. Unfortunately, when we arrived, concierge did not seem to know that we had a few 'freebies' that should be included. It was a bit annoying to have to explain that we should have a free dinner, free massage, sea view room, etc. The rest of the trip was similar, with customer service being quite below par. Also, our dinner at the restaurant was one of the most bland meals I have ever eaten and would not recommend it.

Pros: Lovely location, albeit a bit far from Kamala town. The room we stayed in, the pools, the view and the grounds were very nice. Breakfast was generally good as well.

We travelled as a couple to Phuket in OCT and NOV 2011 and had the best time.

As we wanted to have at least a few nights in a 5* hotel we booked into Aquamarine at Kammala Beach as it was perfectly situated for us to do a little unwinding and relaxing away from the world and that is what it was. COME HERE TO GET AWAY.

Though it was obviously a lot harder to go for a walk through the countless markets, stalls, shops and restaurants available at Patong beach, we found that we were not wanting for much at all. As a full buffet breakfast was included in our price and our tours picked us up from the hotel.

The resort itself is by far the most beautiful we stayed at with perfect Thai architecture, two pools, gardens, a spa and restaurants. Our room was beautiful and immaculate with a traditional thai mattress on a raised platform.

We decided to get some exercise and go out for a romantic moonlit walk to find dinner one night and after a 20 minute walk we found the best pizza, Ever. Period. At a beautiful little restrung/bar romantically lit up with fairy lights with wonderful service and even more wonderful people.

We stayed for a few days and it was absolutely lovely! The staff were SO helpful and friendly. However, the only complaint I would have was that we did not get any transfers and had to take a taxi for way more than it should have been. Besides that, the hotel was gorgeous, a view to die for! The infinity pools were great and so relaxing I would definately come back. Highly recommended! Thanks to all the staff there and hopefully see you all again very soon!
