Tom's Barn and Douglas's Barn
Reviewed 5 August 2011

We had a fantastic stay last month at Douglas's barn. Everything was brilliant, the view, the location, the facilities. There was nothing missing and it truly felt like home as soon as we had stepped through the door. If you do want to leave the barn, as you might not want to as it is so nice to stay in, there is a lot to do and see in the surrounding area. Well recommended, and we will be back!

Douglas's Barn was without doubt the best self catering place I've ever stayed in. I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone. First of all, the location is beautiful and hidden away, but also close to the peaks walks and within easy distance from the main towns. The barn itself is extremely well kitted-out and decorated with such taste and attention to detail. We wondered whether it could be as lovely as the photos on the website but it more than lives up to expectations. The spiral staircase, very comfy bed and whirlpool bath were particular highlights not to mention the home-made cake and kitchen stocked with essentials including fresh herbs. Marion and John are absolutely lovely - so welcoming and friendly. We had a fantastic stay and cannot wait to go back!

We have just returned from a week's stay at the end of June in Douglas's Barn and we can definitely say that it is one of the loveliest holiday cottages we have ever stayed in. The location of Orchard Farm on the edge of the village of Parwich is completely idyllic - Parwich is a quiet and peaceful village - if you are looking to get away from the stresses and strains of everyday life then staying in one of the barns is just for you.

Marion and John were very welcoming from the moment we arrived (and even before with all the useful information they sent through) and could not do enough for you and yet didn't intrude on your privacy. The cottage was immaculate and equipped with everything you could think of and much, much more - we did find it very difficult to leave after our week's stay. The extra little treats were very much appreciated - the Bakewell Tart was divine and it was a surprise it was not devoured on our first evening! We couldn't actually think of anything more you would want from a holiday cottage - even the weather was perfect!

There is also a lovely seating area outisde the cottage which were lucky to make use of every day during our stay. It was so nice just to stay around the cottage as it was so idyllic. There are plenty of walks from Orchard Farm and I would definitely recommend the walk to Tissington to get your sausages and bacon from the excellent White Peak Butchery. I would also recommend a meal at The George in Alstonefield and Rowley's in Baslow. In fact there is so much to see and do in the local area we know that we will be back for more of the delights Orchard Farm has to offer. Thank you once again Marion and John for everything.

We have recently returned from a week's stay in Douglas's Barn. John and Marion's website is so comprehensive that I was sure we had made a good choice for a base to explore the Peak District and visit our son at University. That decision was confirmed as soon as we arrived. John & Marion were there to greet us with wonderful homemade cakes and relaxing music playing. The barn is so comfortable and is the most well equipped accommodation I have ever stayed in. John & Marion have thought of everything and we had a totally relaxing time. Parwich is delightful and provides easy access to the rest of the Peak District. We will be going back.

My wife and I spent a very relaxing week in Douglas's Barn. We received a warm welcome complemented by the homemade cake and marmalade - both excellent.

The converted barn is quiet, comfortable and great for relaxing in. It is very well equipped - especially the kitchen - and the provision of a netbook lets you explore the surroundings on-line before venturing out.

It is in a quiet village but with good access to Ashbourne, Bakewell and Buxton and attractions such as Chatsworth and Sudbury Hall (the latter used for the inside of Pemberley in the 1995 BBC dramatisation of Pride and Prejudice).

For serious and casual walkers alike, the area has a wealth of footpaths and there are several walk books and maps in the barn.

A very enjoyable stay that we hope to repeat.

We have just spent three nights in the beautiful Tom's Barn - a truly lovely cottage. Everything you could possibly want is provided by the excellent hosts Marion and John. We were struck by the peace and quiet which instantly provided a feeling of relaxation. If you venture away from the iydillic setting there are some fantastic walks. We walked to Tissington from the Barn across the fields and the scenery was breathtaking. It is so lovely to be able to take your dog on a 5 star holiday! We will definitely return!
