“Amazing Place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 July 2014

I stayed in a bungalow with my boyfriend for 3 nights in this beautiful place. I can't recommend it enough.

The staff were so friendly and accommodating. The grounds are beautiful and clean. The bungalows are lovely they have a traditional look with thatched roof and dark wood, but are clean and new looking. The outdoor bathroom is lovely and unique.

Bingin Beach is a really nice and quiet beach 5 mins walk down a lot of stairs which is great to surf in, enough sand to lay on and several basic but healthy food places. The vodka slushies and wraps and juices are great!

If you want to get to Padang Padang Beach (pretty and good for swimming or surfing but VERY CROWDED) its a short taxi/scooter trip away. Dreamland is another beach nearby, a bit bigger than padang with mellow waves to surf and lounges you can rent. Bingin is still nicer than these two though in my opinion.

It is quite a remote location and you need to hire scooters or get a taxi if you want to venture to anywhere other than Bingin Beach but they will happily call a taxi for you and you're roughly 30 mins from Denpasar airport.

Be sure to head to Uluwatu temple around 5pm for a traditional Bali dance as the sun sets (a taxi will take you there and wait for you then drop you home again for 180,000RP)

Also The mexican grill near the entrance to Padang padang beach is amazing!

In short: Couldn’t be happier with our stay! It was such a relaxing holiday.

Why?: Our stay at Exclusive Bali Bungalows was truly beyond what we expected! There were 5 of us staying in the guest house (2 bedrooms with 3 double beds). The location was great for surfers (right next to the most famous waves) and couples/groups looking to get away from the noise of Kuta for a relaxing holiday. There are only a few bungalows, which ensures a very personal experience.

Jeroen and Janine had recently taken over ownership/management and have done a fantastic job. They are very flexible and will happily sit down with you to have a chat or give advice on your travels. Their staff were also extremely friendly and accommodating to personal preference. Whether it is waiting for you to leave for a walk to clean the rooms or going to the markets to make a dinner on your specific request, everything was based around our personal experience. Truly one of the best value of money around the area (though money is an afterthought after the great experience). The service was great, the food was great and even the other patrons were great to talk to.

Also their recommended driver (Putu) was also truly amazing. Good rates, extremely friendly and most importantly fun. Treat him well and he will treat you twice as well. The one day he was busy with another client, we booked another driver (recommended by friends) and was bitterly disappointed as the other driver was clearly taking us to place based on his commissions. Putu will listen and take you to where you want to go. He will also give his honest advice if you ask for it. As mentioned the Bungalows are near the surf areas which are generally away from the noise. But it is a cheap taxi ride into Kutu if you wish to have the one off party and Putu will stay up all night waiting for you to text him to come and get you.

A few of us will be coming back within the next 18 months and will definitely be staying at Exclusive Bali Bungalows again. Value for money, but more important and great personal and relaxing experience.

Room Tip: Go with their recommended driver

If you are visiting Bali you must stay at the Exclusive Bali Bungalows! By far one of the best places I have ever stayed! The Exclusive Bali Bungalows consist of 4 well maintained bungalows of varying sizes within a lovely and secluded compound that includes a pool and large common/dining area. There is an abundance of well-maintained plant life including large trees (one with a Balinese tree spirit living in it) and smaller Plumeria trees. We stayed in the largest bungalow that had two rooms and three very comfortable beds surrounded with mosquito netting. The most talked about amenity of our trip by far was our open air outdoor bathroom consisting of sink, toilet, and large bathtub surrounded by rock wall and Banyan tree for privacy.
The bungalows are run by Jeroen and Janine, an awesome young European couple. They have both worked in top hotels and completed various programs in hotel management and hospitality. They come off friendly, yet at the same time incredibly professional. The bungalow staff included Patrice who cooked and served us food as well as a head chef in the evening, housekeeper, and groundskeeper. The staff was really nice and along with Janine helped us plan activities and teach us more about Balinese culture.
One thing that really sets the Exclusive apart from any other accommodations in the area was the food!!!!! You can order absolutely anything that you want and Janine will organize it and Patrice and the chef will cook it for you. Our breakfast was complimentary and consisted of fruit, Balinese coffee, fresh juice, toast, and our choice of egg dish. My family is extremely picky and doesn’t eat any meat other than a little bit of chicken and seafood, my dad also despises onions and garlic. Every night the staff exceeded our expectations and met all of our bizarre dietary restrictions. We enjoyed five dinners while at the bungalows; seafood BBQ with fresh prawns and snapper, traditional noodles and fried rice, traditional Balinese curry with the best chicken I have ever tasted (even my dad ate his chicken and he doesn’t eat chicken), pasta with white sauce and red sauce, and (most impressive) a sushi dinner consisting of tuna, yellow tail, and salmon sashimi. Each meal was three courses and was accompanied by wine or Bintang. Excellent selection of wine to choose from, Janine really knows her wine. We even got complimentary dessert wine two of the nights and a shot of Arak (traditional Balinese hard alcohol) on our last night. Considering the high quality of the food, relaxed atmosphere and convenience, the dinners were well priced and reduced a lot of stress considering that the alternative would have been piling into a cab or taking motor bikes to a restaurant and probably paying the same price or more.
The main attraction of the bungalows are Jeroen and Janinetwo kittens Hendric and Hindric. So so so adorable, we couldn’t stop playing with them and taking pictures! However, if you don’t like cats there is no need to worry because they are not allowed in the main dining and lounge area.
Finally, the location of the Exclusive is absolutely perfect! They share an access point with the Romeo to Bingin beach and surf break. About a three minute walk to benches and pavilion that overlook Bingin surf break (great place for sunset) where you can also see Dreamland and Impossibles surf breaks. Walk down the steep stairs and you are right on Bingin beach and during low tide you can walk to dream land (just be aware that half the population of Java will be hanging out at the Dreamland beach, very entertaining people watching). As an avid surfer that grew up surfing mostly reef breaks in Hawaii, I hit up Bingin every day and got some of the best surf of my entire life, making my childhood dreams of surfing in Bali a reality. High tide was in the morning and I woke up at 6 to avoid the large crowd and would usually go out again during mid-day. In the late afternoon the tide goes down and Bingin turns into a crazy barreling left only for very experience surfers but my whole family enjoyed sitting at Kelly’s café at the bottom of the stairs enjoying a Bintang and the incredible display of tube rides. Check in with Jerone to find out what the surf is doing! Uluwatu is a short cab ride away (there is an ATM on the way next to Coco mart) and while the tide is too high to travel by the beach you can still get to Dreamland on dirt path so the bungalows are really in an ideal location. The bungalows are also about a 5 minute walk from the Cashew tree, a backpacker hangout that serves health food and has live music on Thursday nights. We went for lunch and got great curry and salad and then stopped by to watch the band Thursday night. I felt like I was back down in Kuta but with a more relaxed feel with all the Aussies that showed up for the live music and after several Bintangs I was thankful the Exclusive was just a quick stumble away.
My family really had a great time at the Bungalows, we almost cried when we had to say goodbye to the owners, staff, and of course the KITTENS! Hope you will have as much fun as we did.

Many thanks for your very long and lovely review! We really liked to have all of you here for such a long time, and we are glad you really enjoyed it. Putri/Patrice and our Chef Widi also would like to thank you for your kind words about them, they felt really honored. You would be amazed by how big Hendrik and Heinrich have gotten already and still growing… they hope to see you one day again as well ;) Of course we have to, in return, come visit Hawaii. We definitely want to go there one day.

We stayed here for two nights in a two bedroom family bungalow as a group of four friends . It was a very last minute booking and we had no idea of what to expect, but the place turned out to be spectacular.

The grounds were immaculately kept, the rooms were spotless and tastefully decorated, the pool was amazing, the outdoor bathrooms were a great nod to traditional Balinese bathrooms, and our hosts were exceptionally friendly and went out of their way to help us when one of our friends when missing in action for a while :P

Breakfast was great - I don't understand the complaints in other reviews. Eggs of your choice, toast, fruit, pancakes, juice, tea, coffee, yoghurt... great way to start the day. The rest of the food is the usual tasty Bali fare.

The beach is a 5 minute walk from the bungalows, and the view from the cliff is nothing short of breathtaking. Down on the beach you can watch the surfers, wander round to Dreamland or get amongst some of the great seafood on offer. The path leading down the cliff is a little steep, so take a flashlight with you if you're navigating it at night.

I'd note that this is not strictly backpacker accommodation. If you're looking to stay somewhere on a super tight budget, or looking for a party atmosphere, then this is not the place for you. If you're looking to get out of the madness of Kuta and relax in some true tranquility, then I can't recommend this place highly enough. We made some great memories here. I will definitely be returning.

We stayed at Exclusive Bali Bungalows as a one night treat to start off a month in Bali on a back packers budget. Needless to say, it was far beyond what we expected as we kept extending our stay. The grounds, the bungalows, and the open air baths were tasteful and elegant. The staff that Jeroen and Janine have hired were exceptional and welcoming. The memories that I have of our time here will last a lifetime. I highly recommend staying a few nights (or more) if you find yourself in Bali. A huge thank you to Jeroen and Janine. We hope to see you again in the future.

The bungalow was clean and very comfortable (though a bit dark), the bed was great, and the staff and management nice and welcoming. The A/C and hot water work great. The pool is nice, and it's a 5 minute walk down steep steps to the water. There is an outdoor bathroom that is very nice as well, and will be great when the plants grow a bit more. Motorbikes can be rented next door.

A couple of comments which should be read in the context of Bali standards for accommodation at a similar price:
- The price was a bit high for overall value (we stayed at villas that were way more spacious, and luxurious for about 30 euros less elsewhere in Bali);
- The breakfast could have been a bit more generous and fresh (fruit salad was clearly yesterday's leftovers, the lemon juice was water with some lemon squeezed in it).

Also, the management suggested that we walk to Dreamlands beach -- the walk was indeed quite stunning, but the beach a huge disappointment (massive concrete building, tons of tourists, bad food, couldn't really swim) -- but did not mention that the only way back would then be via a 20-minute taxi ride (could not walk back due to tides). This was obviously just an omission and the managers were trying to be helpful, but we had not planned enough money, and ended up a bit stuck when we intended to get back to the hotel.

Another odd thing was that one of the managers came and handed us our bill while we were having breakfast telling us "this is what you have to pay" (we had not asked for the bill yet and had not even packed or left our bungalow), and an hour later, as we were preparing to leave, the other manager asked us whether we had paid... We felt that these were strange (not to say rude) things to say/ask customers -- did we look like we were going to run off without paying?

Overall, nice place, but room for improvement!

Dear Jenny,

Thank you for writing a review, even though it is not the best one. We at Exclusive Bali Bungalows are happy to hear you really liked our place, and we really appreciate you saying that we were ‘’nice and welcoming’’, that is exactly the energy we would like to give to all the travelers. Thank you.

When it comes to your concerns, I would like to address that we and many of our previous guest do not think that the price is a bit high for the overall value. We strive to deliver excellent service throughout your stay and our staff and us self would be able to assist you 24/7 for absolutely anything. Please keep in mind that we offer one of the most beautiful lounge and restaurant in Bali and that we have a 5 star chef who would just cook anything one would like to eat. Also, not forgetting to mention that it comes with the best WIFI, in the south of Bali, with 6mb p/s download speed and a wonderful marble pool.

Secondly, I agree that Dreamland is a big disappointment, however, luckily we are located at the Bingin beach and not at Dreamland. Bingin beach is one of the few remote and truly close to its Balinese roots type of beach village with the beautiful water, which is 100x more attractive than Dreamland. We ourselves never go to dreamland for the exact same reasons, because Bingin is so much nicer. And if our guests do decide to go there we always warn about the tides.

Third, we are experimenting what is working best when it comes to ‘’paying the bill’’. We give everything to provide all our guests a wonderful time and therefore we do not push our guests to pay the bill after every drink, lunch, dinner etc. For your convenience we all add it up and let it be paid at the end of the stay. To all our guests we do indeed provide our guests the bill on the day of departure after breakfast. Many guest have preferred it this way.

Finally, I read that you did have an overall good stay and that you rated the location, service, cleanliness and sleep quality excellent. We at Exclusive Bali Bungalows would like to welcome you here again!

With kind regards,
Jeroen Paas

Villa Sundaram has recently changed hands, been acquired by a delightful young couple Jeroen and Janine and changed its name to Exclusive Bali Bungalows. We were the first group to stay here after it re-opened. There were 7 adults (ages 30-70s) and 5 kids (ages 5-13), so we took up all of the rooms.
Jeroen and Janine couldn't have been more welcoming - we had a fantastic relaxing time. The resort has a lovely relaxing ambiance, and is conveniently located walking distance to Bingin Beach at all tides, and Padang Padang and Dreamland at low tide.
We pre-booked breakfast, which was always lovely and fresh, and decided to eat in most nights. Their chef, Vidi, is excellent and cooked a range of 3-course meals, but our favourite was the seafood BBQ which was exceptional.
Jeroen and Janine have big plans for Exclusive Bali Bungalows, so I expect there will be steady improvements. They have a great team from the kitchen staff to the gardening staff and everyone was so helpful, that our stay was just amazing!

Room Tip: There are 4 bungalows - 2 with double beds, 1 with two double beds and a house with 3 double beds. S...
