This was a lovely stop off. Very busy with tourists, but well worth a look at. Had deliberately missed the monkey forest in Ubud due to concerns over the monkey's aggression we had witnessed last time. Here the monkeys live freely and seem quite safe. The temple is beautiful and the views stunning.

This temple is perfect for watching the sunset. There is a 20,000 entrance few per person, and you have to cover up legs, but they provide you with a sarong type thing to do this with. There are also monkeys, so you have to be careful with sunglasses etc, but this just adds to the experience. We visited Tanah Lot earlier in the day and thought this was much nicer, and not as busy. Go for sunset!

I recently visited Uluwatu Temple with a few friends and it was fantastic. We visited during sunset to see the Balinese Fire Dance, but arrived maybe 45 minutes early to snap pictures of the wily monkeys and the breathtaking scenery. It's on top of a sheer cliff with views of the ocean as far as the eye can see. The fire dance was tons of fun, full of energy and vibrancy. We didn't have any children in our group, but the kids at the performance were absolutely loving it. Highly recommend. Beware: the monkeys (Macaws?) love to grab at anything dangling from your body and run off with it. We saw a woman get her eyeglasses snatched from atop her head, and only got them back when someone tossed the monkey a bit of food.

Thank Greg A
