Very convenient hotel, right next to Kenting Street, plenty of food choices at night. Room is not big but with a decent balcony, we had 2 room next to each other therefore can have balcony gathering every night. Low season in Kenting now in a way quite good, more quiet. Air conditioning is a bit too noisy. Breakfast is ok.

The beach where you can swim is 15 min walk over the street. The staff is unfriendly which I have never experienced before in traveling. The rooms are very small and we had the family room for only 2 persons, but it's looks clean. The most important thing.
I believe this hotel smokey joe's is overrated.

We spent 3 nights at Smokey Joe's Hotel in June 2017 and really enjoyed our stay. We were a bit concerned beforehand that perhaps it would be noisy, given the location right on the main street in Kenting, but until you stepped outside you would never have even known it was on a busy road. The location might not be to everyone's taste, but we really enjoyed the proximity to shops, restaurants and the night market.

Staff on reception were friendly and helpful, although there were a few language barrier issues - depending on who was on the desk at the time we weren't always able to make ourselves understood, but fortunately enough of the staff spoke English that this wasn't a major problem for us.

We had a fabulous room on the top floor - quiet, spacious, with a really nice living room area and a balcony with a view of the sea (if you didn't mind overlooking the rooftop of the other side of the hotel). There was also a huge fridge provided, with soft drinks and snacks free of charge, and plenty of space to store other drinks that we purchased in the town. The bed was comfortable and the shower was good, and the free flip flops were a nice touch. Downsides of the room were nowhere near enough hangers in the wardrobe (4 or 5 hangers is not enough for two people), it took a while to figure out all of the multiple light switches, and the air conditioning controls were fiddly and difficult to figure out.

Our room rate didn't include breakfast, so we paid separately for it, which gave us more choice. There are some slightly odd breakfast items on the menu (eggs benedict with cheese, paninis with apples in them) and the eggs benedict was really awful (the staff clearly do not know how to poach eggs!) but overall the breakfast was fine, if perhaps a little pricey for the quality. Service at breakfast was pretty patchy as well - it wasn't unusual for food to arrive when we were still waiting for our drinks, and on one morning we did have to remind the waitress three times that we had ordered a coffee and an orange juice. We didn't eat any other meals there so can't comment on the quality of the food at lunch/dinner.

The pool area was a very pleasant place to cool off in the hot afternoons, although it is a bit lacking in seating - there's only a small number of loungers, but fortunately it was never particularly busy while we were there so we were always able to find somewhere to sit.

Overall we had an excellent stay at Smokey Joe's and would highly recommend it for a visit to Kenting. Better service at breakfast and a few minor tweaks to the room would have seen me award it 5 stars.

Room Tip: The top floor rooms have balconies with a view of the sea rather than just overlooking the pool

As subject says - choose 4 adults garden suite if possible, since it's just absolutely stunning as per design, room size, bathroom and free drinks offered - as for the convenience - you have a pretty big YOUR OWN outside seating area with your own small waterfall! It's such an unexpected oasis in the middle of crowded Kenting Shopping street, that feeling is almost unreal - and what's even better - from one side of hotel you can literally step in Kenting shopping street, but from another side - cross the street and parking lot - and you are on Dawan beach, same one where the Chateau resort is located. Pool is really clean and deep enough to swim, and not just play with kids, however, could be bit bigger.
Now, it's worth to mention also, that dining experience will be also great - I attached to my review breakfast we got, and those who are not familiar with Kenting, maybe will find useful to know that Smokey Joes started as a restaurant in the area where Ceasar Park hotel is now, and now they had made this great hotel and moved restaurant also the same area near Dawan beach. Great move, new location is far better now!
Anyway, again - if possible book 4 adult Garden Suite, it's worth to pay more for this experience!

Room Tip: take garden suite, it's worth the money paid
