We had a great experience at this B&B in Hualien.

Location: Not very central, but Hualien is quite small so it is a short taxi ride away. Also, the manager / owner was willing to drive us to the city center for just 100 NTD.

Staff / Service: Wonderfully hospitable. The manager opened up at 1 am for us to check in. He also was very helpful in securing a motor scooter to ride to Taroko, and even picked us up in town after we had already checked out to take us to the train station.

Room: Very nice. Clean and comfortable, and lovely surroundings. Provided toiletries as well. Quite spacious, wood floors--thoroughly enjoyed staying in this room. Note--no elevator, but there are only 3 floors.

Overall, I highly recommend and would stay here again.

We only planned 1 night for Hualien and knew we wanted to be close to the Zheqiang night market. Jimei was perfect for that. What was a pleasant surprise for me was how professional the whole establishment was for a minsu.

We arrived and immediately one guy helped lugged our luggage up. Check in was a breeze. Our room 1101 was a duplex which had to be reached by 1 flight of stairs. It was spacious and had a nice design touch (nothing too kitschy or flowery). Well placed electrical outlets for charging purposes as well as enough lighting for the space. Blackout curtains to ensure good night sleep. 2 very comfortable beds and beddings were upstairs. Bathroom came complete with 4 sets of towels already (impressive!). Shower area floor was non-slippery. Windows worked very well to insulate from outside noise. The room was also very clean.

The young lady who was at the front desk was super friendly and helpful with dining choices. Breakfast next morning was heavy on tasty Chinese items, but fine with me.

That's all the positives. Now, the drawbacks. Hualien downtown is actually a good place to wander around. It's not too big so as for tourists to get lost and filled with lots of yummy looking things. We went to a dumpling place recommended by a Taiwanese friend (and the friendly receptionist) and it was delicious. The many eateries here beat the Zheqiang Night Market by a mile. If I ever come back to Hualien, I will stay in the city. It's just too far to walk from Jimei to the city (Jimei provides bikes but I cannot bike). Also, at least the duplex I was staying at looked out into what looked like factories and trucks. Not a problem for 1 night for us, but fellow travellers should take note. The surrounding area feels rather desolate though in no way unsafe. Several dogs kept barking at us when we walked back from the night market to Jimei.

If you are travelling with a little kid or an elderly, do ask for an accessible room. Our room was definitely not convenient for that.

All in all, for what we were looking for, Jimei fit the bill and we were extremely satisfied with our stay.

Going to Jimei Homestay in Hua Lien was like going to stay with a family friend on their property. So they do not have the making of a hotel with state of the art facilities but I deemed it a comfortable place to go back to after a day trip to taroke and have someone local to have a conversation with.

I went with my 7.5 months old daughter and my husband and the owner Mr Xie seeing we are rushing for time to eat breakfast took time to entertain my little girl while we take breakfast. Dont think we can have someone to assist us at any hotel.

This place is about 15 mins walk away to the nightmarket and convenience stores so not that secluded .. far enough from the hustle bustle still walkable to grab drinks / food or tibits

The owner is also accomodating and helpful hence totally no complaints on service!! Thumbs up!! They provide booking of day tours etc so if you have no clue how to go about it they will take care of it for you...Just go and take in the beauty of Hua Lien!!

However 2 things about the room: bed is a little soft which sink in when we are sitting at the edge and the fan blades in the room seriously need some cleaning because I see a layer of dusts over it and I get a little paranoid. Otherwise heating is good and the everything else is tip top!

Cozy home-like minsu. They upgraded us to a six-persons room so we really enjoyed the space. Our boys loved the swing and the table soccer too. Location wise, it is conveniently near the Ziqiang night market although it is down a rather dark street. Should be alright once the streetlight gets repaired.

It is about 10-15 minutes taxi ride from Hualien train station and within 15 minutes walk through the dark from the night market. There is nothing interesting nearby but the owner provides bicycles for guests to ride around the city. The 5-person room was clean and the beds were reasonably comfortable for a night rest. The owner and staff are friendly and the breakfast was relatively good with local and western options. They arranged my day tour and transport to Sun Moon Lake.
