Owner description: See one of the most creative expressions of Taiwanese culture, hear the strong rhythms of Neimen’s drum beat, and feel the rigor of kung fu, at the Song-Jiang Jhen Battle Array in Kaohsiung’s Neimen District. The festival originated in the Song Dynasty, when Song Jiang, leader of a group of bandits, trained his men in battles integrating various weapons, strategies, formations and music. Today the ritual is performed to celebrate the birthdays of various gods, and is a key component of reviving Taiwan’s rich traditions. The performances are accompanied by photo exhibitions, calligraphy shows and culinary expositions for a festive experience.
