Nice hosts, very friendly, clean room. When we went it was raining so we were sodden wet through A little cold but loaban brought us a heater plus the aircon heater. Loaban took us to old street in his car. Great view. Nice breakfast. Would stop again

It is little bit difficult to get in, but the place has nice view and very cozy, clean and comfort. And There are some cats wandering around. They are so cute and friendly. :) It was nice experience to stay here.

First off, let's be fair. I've just read the previous review by "Melsoh" from Singapore. I can only scratch my head in amazement that he expects the owner of this B&B to pick his family up at night and carry his heavy bags to his room for him, and then gives him a one-star review as retaliation. I have stayed in countless B&B's the last 45 years and Yu-Hua-Shan-Zhuang is one of the best. The owners are incredibly attentive to detail and do a spectacular job of making us feel welcome. From the moment we arrived they made us feel like we really matter. They lent us a tour book, helped us plan our day, shared a beer, prepared fabulous food, and in the end, drove us to the train station in Riufung. One can only feel like part of the family in this well run establishment. No, it is not the most luxurious place I've ever been to but the hospitality more that makes up for the lack of luxury. The room is basic, but meticulously clean with drinks, snacks, and a hair dryer. The bathroom had a great shower with amenities. Overall, we had a terrific visit and would easily recommend this home-stay for anyone visiting Jiufen.

Pros
- very friendly hosts; lots of historical stories to tell about JiuFen which they heard their neighbours aged 70 to 90s.
- Served cold drinks when we arrived in the hot day
- recommended a lovely place near train station for fantastic "Yam & Sweet Potato Balls", much better than the super long queue one in the Jiu Fen old streets.
- my kids love to play with docile furry cat

Cons
- 401 steps from this minsu to Jiu Fen Old Streets
- there is a must smell in our room and wardrobe; was told that it was because this is a mountainous area
- plenty of cheap unmatched ornaments in the room, collecting dust
- not very clean as I spotted laye of dust on TV console, bedside tables etc; I even picked up a stick of sugar under the duvet on my bed
- rather dated decor and poor quality toiletries

Below is the summary of our one night experience in Yuhua B&B:

1) Our driver drove us to Yu Hua B&B at around 8pm and as we have elderly parents together with us on this Taiwan Trip, our driver requested for the owners to pick us from old street back to the B&B. However, the owner declined, citing that it is easy to navigate back despite being very late, and having to negotiate the dark alley. To be fair, he did show us the direction back on a map, but he did not consider the fact that we are first timer here and were unfamiliar with the place there.

2) We left 3 luggage in the living room of the B&B before leaving for old street. When we returned 1.5 hours later, we only found 1 luggage sitting in the living room. We later learn from the owners that the other 2 was carried up to our rooms as it was lighter, leaving the heaviest luggage behind for us to carry up. Not that we are expecting the owners to carry our luggage to the rooms for us, but leaving the heaviest behind is a little hard for me to comprehend.

3) When the owner learnt that we were interested to explore Ye Liu the next morning, he was very pushy about introducing us to his drivers. The amount that his driver is quoting us is higher than market rate (We knew because we got the initial quote from our Taizhong driver). In my opinion, instead of being on his tenant side and negotiating for a reasonable rate, the last thing that we expect is for him to be pushy about us taking up a higher-than-market rate package.

4) The cleanliness of the room is in doubt as we found a comb on the mirror desk, stranded with long hair. (It was rather eerie so we do not dare to take a picture for uploading purposes)

5) We stayed in the 貂蟬雙人套房 and the toilet bowl was choked much to our disgust.

To the owner's credit, the breakfast was indeed sumptuous and the scenery was rather breath-taking.

Would I come back to this B&B if I will to visit Jiu Fen again? In my opinion, there are a lot more B&B who are better out there that can provide a more comfortable stay.
