My one night stay at this B&B/minsu was the highlight of my entire Taiwan trip. I regret that I only stayed here for one night after hearing about all the interesting stories about Sun Moon Lake from Wayne the owner. Highlight for the trip has to be the early morning walk to a nearby hill for the most incredible sunrise ever. Seeing the mountains among the clouds reminded me a Chinese painting and the air was so fresh up on that hill. Listening to a native of Sun Moon Lake telling us about Sun Moon Lake gave a whole new perspective for us the tourists, for we began to see the true beauty of this place beyond just a lake and taking ferry rides.

Laurel Villa is located near the Shuishe village, stone throw away from the ferry terminal to take the ferries to Ita Thao and the aboriginal park. The family room we stayed in had 2 queen beds and was very spacious and comfy. Steps to the rooms are a little steep and challenging if you have lots of luggage but otherwise the 3-storey B&B feels like a second home and the owner and his family are the best hosts for an intimate & informative stay at Sun Moon Lake. Strongly recommend for travelers who are not looking for a hotel stay overlooking the lake, because the lake is truly overrated and is more beautiful when one is walking along the pier.

Accidentally selected rated fitness centre on the bubble rating by mistake. Do note this B&B has no fitness centre (no idea which B&B has fitness centre) but if fitness is what you want, I suggest you check with the owner on that wonderful morning walk to see the sunrise - the best natural 'fitness centre' you can get. Be a nice guest and perhaps you will be rewarded.

This place was recommended by a friend and we were so glad. Wayne, his wife, and mother were the nicest, friendliest, open, honest B&B owners I have ever had the pleasure to meet. The owner grew up here, left for the big city for university, and came back because he missed the place so much. They know all the secret, best places to see the views, eat local food, and how to get around inexpensively and the best times to avoid the tour bus crowds. With their tips, went on some awesome hikes and ate delicious local foods. The room was clean, tidy, with tips in both Chinese and English. Wayne is modest about his English, but it is pretty good. At night, when there is not much to do, it was fun to kick back with Wayne & family and chat about Taiwan, life, and Sun Moon Lake. The B&B is only a 5 minute walk from the bus terminal and across the street from the pier. Highly recommend!

We had the most wonderful stay in laurel villa. Shuishe pier offers the best mountain view compared to the other piers, and laurel villa is located just 2 minutes walk away.

If you are on a free and easy trip, the bus from taichung to sun moon lake will bring you to shuishe pier, and from there you can easily walk to the minsu. (easily accessible)

The minsu feels really homely, and service was really good. When you're there in the summer, sleep early and wake up early to enjoy the view at the pier.

If you are lucky, Wayne, (the owner of laurel villa), will bring you up to a nice spot where you can have the best view of sun moon lake and its surrounding area. (Waking up at 4am was totally worth it!!)

P.S. you should really drink the red tea in the room.

We revisited Sun Moon Lake and chose to return to Laurel Villa as we had enjoyed our previous stay. Room in the main building was just as we had remembered - clean, homely and now upgraded with a new LCD TV and aircon unit.

We spent 3 days with them this time and had more opportunities to chat with Wayne, his wife and his mum. Wayne and his wife were warm and chatty as ever and the conversations with them were always interesting. His mum was also rather endearing after warming up to us and the usually reserved lady shared quite a bit about different places in Taiwan.

They have installed electronic card access to the main building via the outdoor dining area, so guests in the main building need not worry about returning late any more.

I will not hesitate to stay here again if I visit Sun Moon Lake in the future. The owner and family offered extra services, which were not expected. We were brought to a quiet spot to see fireflies and you won't be disappointed with what you see as the owner knows when is the best time and where to go for firefly-watching. The owner also gave advice on how and when to enjoy Sun Moon Lake to the max. I will definitely recommend this hotel to my friends.
