“The time of our lives...”
Reviewed 7 July 2013

My husband, children and I visited Darang Tea Estate in April this year. We have never been so well taken care of anywhere else that we have stayed. After living in London, Paris and New York, we were a liitle worried about our first home stay / bed and breakfast in India. But, we were in for a surprise...how we were spoiled !!! From the home made jams and desserts to the delicious home made organic meals... the walks in the tea gardens... waking up to a nice hot cup of chai in our verandha and listening to the birds chirp... I could go on... My children loved playing in 'their house' ( the machaan t) and want to know when they can go back to Darang :-)
Thank you Naveen and Neeru for a truly wonderful holiday... all our love. Krishna

It was a pleasure having you and your family with us.
It was delightful to see the way your kids enjoyed being here at the estate.....not wanting to go out anywhere!! They taught us a couple of things about bird watching!!
Wishing you all the best

The accommodation is average. There is no power backup. There are bugs every where. The lighting and ventilation are not sufficient. There is no television and no intercom. One would have to walk through the rain to the food area. The dogs are infected with ticks and always rub against the guests. The host is bit hostile in that she suggested us to get down 20 kilometers away from the location so she could send a cab which charges 900rs. The food is certainly better than the hotel food but not sure if it is worth the price charged. Most importantly the location is not convenient to go visit anything in the surroundings hence the charges can not be justified.

Dear Mr Prasad,
My husband and I were disappointed to read your feedback.
As for sending a taxi to fetch you from Kangra......it was at your request that we did.
We are not a resort or hotel and do not provide a pickup or drop, but still my husband specially went and waited with you and put you on the bus.
Wish we could have made your stay more pleasant.
Best regards

We had driven up to attend the Radha Soami Satsang Beas satsang at Parore, just 2 kms away from this homestay in Darang. We noticed how a real good homestay is a different experience from a resort- personalized attention, care, conversation and support. Fruit, milk, cereals and juices are home produced. The meals are home cooked and the jams, pickles and beverages are home made! The surroundings were lush- acres of tea bushes, trees, forest, and a backdrop of snow covered mountains. Lovely1

Room Tip: the cottages are more private

Just back from a wonderful stay at Darang Tea Estate. And my 5 year daughter already asking me ‘ Mama , when are we going back to Neeru Aunty’s house!’
Thank you Neeru Aunty and Navin Uncle for everything – The early morning welcome & garam adrakwali chai, the delicious home-cooked food, garden-lunches and dinners by the fire-place, your travel tips (especially lucky hotel for aloo-tikki & chaat, the audio guide at Kangra fort, Andretta pottery), the lemon cake you specially baked for us. Your jams & marmalades were truly awesome - especially the lemon-ginger. We loved the long-walks in the tea-garden, the peace& tranquility of the place, watching the cows being milked and playing with Layla, Simba & Brandy. Thanks for making our holiday a very memorable one. Your heartwarming company will always be cherished.
Looking forward to come again!

Love

Shilpa

a sense of deja vu, as soon as we stepped into the darang tea estate we knew we were home, our journey that started out with an almost missed train, the missed train, all the ingredients of a "sholay" packed into an overnight journey from delhi, we stepped into the warmth and friendly atmosphere created by neeru and naveen bhandari. not just neeru and naveen but navin's mother and sister binita made an indelible impression on us,the cynical and worldly mumbaikars.
the circle was completed with the labradors - the irrepressible laila and brandy the pug who exploded into action for late evening snack of biscuits doled out by naveen.
the shopping at macleod gunj - the visit to kangra fort - the breathtaking landscape freshly washed by the monsoon rains.
the evening chat livened up with songs and ghazals the atmosphere enhanced the performance of our own singing duo seema & prabhakar,
the food was awesome, the homemade jams and the desert with farm fresh self picked fruits from the trees in the orchard being the "icing on the cake"
to top it all meeting naveen's extended family made for an unforgettable holiday, so much so that while leaving it felt more like we were not saying goodbye as guests but leaving as members of a family after a short visit - it was a bollywood experience we felt we were family meeting having been separated twenty years ago at th khumb mela,
it even prompted me to do a few pencil sketches after nearly thirty decades,
like the terminator - dear bhandaris - "we shall be back"

Room Tip: take the room in the main cottage corner, the room is smaller but opens into a delightful sitting ar...
