“classy, friendly, homely, spacious, exceptional service and Fairtrade accredited”
Reviewed 31 March 2014

Hog Hollow is a classic. Tucked away in The Crags (just outside Plettenberg Bay), overlooking their own private indigenous forest which joins up with the Monkeyland forest. Hog Hollow is known for its excellent food and service - the dinners are communal - family style and Hog Hollow is famous for these unforgettable dinners.

It is well worth staying at Hog Hollow just so that you can experience dinner-time. Hog Hollow is a Fairtrade accredited lodge - there are not too many of these around :-) so its worth taking note of.

Hog Hollow offers exceptional service, spotless spacious rooms, the friendliest staff, delicious well plated food, nature at your fingertips and more.

I can highly recommend staying at Hog Hollow.

Try to meet the ever efficient Jo Melton-Butler (manager/ reservations/marketing....). She is one of my favourate people in the World.

Stayed for a very enjoyable two days. Very friendly welcome, characterful lodge room with a great view and attractive grounds. We enjoyed the communal dinners and breakfasts around a large table. Highly recommended - one of the highlights of our visit to South Africa.

You really feel you are in Africa here the lodges are set in the forest with animals scampering about. The food was very good with long tables that everyone can sit down at.Breakfasts were exceptional and the staff were so helpful

Room Tip: make sure you stay more than a night

We stayed early January for two nights as part of the package trip we had booked, so were just passing through this area. This hotel is wonderful and we can't really fault any aspect of it. All the staff were friendly and efficient. Our room was fantastic, spacious, spotlessly clean and equipped with everything we could possibly need. Food was superb, with the big communal dining table giving you a chance to meet and dine with fellow travellers from all over the world ( you can choose whether to sit at this table, others are available if you want some privacy ) When we returned from dinner in the evening, we had a bedtime story and a goodnight chocolate left on our pillow. Wonderful! Sadly the view from the terrace was something we missed out on due to the inclement weather, but not to worry as we will come back here some day! Highly recommended for an unforgettable stay.

We were welcomed with a glass of sparkling wine and monkeys! We were sitting on the deck area and were suddenly joined by a group of monkeys running around the place, the receptionist produced a catapult (with no shot in it) and monkeys soon disappeared. The accommodation is well spread out in semi detached two story type villas. There is quite a large sitting area downstairs and a bedroom and bathroom upstairs. We did find the bedroom a bit hot and there was no air conditioning and we were afraid to have the window open too wide because of the monkeys! We thought the stairs were a bit dangerous as the treads were not of even size. We had a lovely meal at night and enjoyed the pre dinner cocktails and nibbles on the deck. Breakfast was excellent too with a really good choice. The location is a bit isolated but as long as you have transport quite a good base from which to tour around.

Lovely rooms with beautiful views, friendly, helpful staff, delicious food ... Unobtrusive, efficient service, including thoughtful touches, such as a placing a small hot water bottle in the bed on a drizzly, cooler evening. Would like to have stayed here longer - excellent place to stay.

Probably the nicest hotel I've stayed in. Beautiful setting and rooms. Food excellent. However, even better is the friendly, efficient and very unobtrusive service. Lots of little extra touches e.g. hot water bottle (though it really wasn't very cold).
