“First class!!!”
Reviewed 21 April 2014

We stayed at hog hollow as part of our honeymoon break. The room were fantastic, with a private balcony that overlooks the monkey forest. The highlight was the dinner in the evening. This was very reasonably priced and you are able to sit around a large table to eat with other guests. This is a set menu, but staff go above and beyond to accommodate you if perhaps the menu is not to your taste. Breakfast was one of the best we had in South Africa. We really did not want to leave Hog Hollow.

Room Tip: We stayed very close to the restaurant, but some people had to walk only a small distance, maybe ask...

set well away from anything, rooms are all separate buildings and all different. Some are more standard construction but there are quirkier ones - a circular one made from an old water tower. Rooms are spacious with private terraces overlooking beautiful countryside. food of excellent quality but dinner menu was somewhat limited - we only stayed 2 nights but v similar or the same dishes on both. Breakfast was first class - even though you might have to share it with a visiting baboon! The only problem we found was finding our way in the dark: paths are lit, but not well, but there is no labelling of which paths to which room. The first night, having failed along 3 paths, we had to return to get a member of staff to get us back!

Room Tip: Ask for one not too far from reception but with views

This property has it all, amazing staff, phenomenal food, great views over the valleys and huge rooms. The pre dinner drinks were around a hanging fire with a local choir for entertainment, truly memorable!

Room Tip: Try and get a room closer to the lodge itself otherwise you could be in for some long walks in the d...

Hog Hollow is a classic. Tucked away in The Crags (just outside Plettenberg Bay), overlooking their own private indigenous forest which joins up with the Monkeyland forest. Hog Hollow is known for its excellent food and service - the dinners are communal - family style and Hog Hollow is famous for these unforgettable dinners.

It is well worth staying at Hog Hollow just so that you can experience dinner-time. Hog Hollow is a Fairtrade accredited lodge - there are not too many of these around :-) so its worth taking note of.

Hog Hollow offers exceptional service, spotless spacious rooms, the friendliest staff, delicious well plated food, nature at your fingertips and more.

I can highly recommend staying at Hog Hollow.

Try to meet the ever efficient Jo Melton-Butler (manager/ reservations/marketing....). She is one of my favourate people in the World.

Stayed for a very enjoyable two days. Very friendly welcome, characterful lodge room with a great view and attractive grounds. We enjoyed the communal dinners and breakfasts around a large table. Highly recommended - one of the highlights of our visit to South Africa.

You really feel you are in Africa here the lodges are set in the forest with animals scampering about. The food was very good with long tables that everyone can sit down at.Breakfasts were exceptional and the staff were so helpful

Room Tip: make sure you stay more than a night

We stayed early January for two nights as part of the package trip we had booked, so were just passing through this area. This hotel is wonderful and we can't really fault any aspect of it. All the staff were friendly and efficient. Our room was fantastic, spacious, spotlessly clean and equipped with everything we could possibly need. Food was superb, with the big communal dining table giving you a chance to meet and dine with fellow travellers from all over the world ( you can choose whether to sit at this table, others are available if you want some privacy ) When we returned from dinner in the evening, we had a bedtime story and a goodnight chocolate left on our pillow. Wonderful! Sadly the view from the terrace was something we missed out on due to the inclement weather, but not to worry as we will come back here some day! Highly recommended for an unforgettable stay.
