Owner description: Birds of Eden is part of the South African Animal Sanctuary Alliance (SAASA). Birds of Eden is the largest single-dome free flight aviary in the world, spanning 2.3 hectares of natural forests, streams and dams. With over a kilometre of walkways, visitors can experience the thrill of spotting almost 3500 previously captive birds of over 200 different species flying free and living natural lives. The scenery alone warrants a visit with hundreds of different plant and tree species plus there are giant fruit bats, golden-handed tamarins and the smallest of the antelopes, Blue duikers. Visits to Birds of Eden are self-guided and you are free to wander for as long as you wish at your own pace. Guided tours for group bookings can also be arranged on request at no additional cost.

“Well worth a visit.”
Reviewed 21 March 2013

Although the birds are from all over the world, it is quite incredible being in this huge "netted" aviary. One of the biggest in the world I believe. The birds are free to fly around with food points all around. You can watch the birds come and feed and. The walkway is amazing, up and down through the forest leading down to where the swans and ducks of all kinds swim around in a big pond ending at a restaurant where you can have a meal or tea or coffee. It is not a posh restaurant, just casual meals, but helpful and nice service. It is really well worth a visit

Beautiful birds in a large stunning aviary. A photographer, nature lover and bird watchers paradise. You go on a self guided tour (make sure you spend the extra few rand on a bird identification guide), and can get amazingly close to the birds. The large variety of local and exotic species and their beautiful bright colours are a must see.

“Birds, and more birds”

A huge enclosure covering 2 acres of forest with many bird species. It is well worth a detour if you have any interest in birds.
