After spending 4 nights on the East side of the island, my husband and I were heading to Old San Juan for 2 nights. Arecibo is about an hour past OSJ, but I had read so many great things about this place that we decided to go for it. We got off the highway in Barceloneta and followed the road along the coast. What a beautiful drive!!! (another reviewer below gave great directions). We took the guided tour with Peter, so glad we did. His information greatly added to the experience. The views from this place are unbelievable. I decided to stay up top while my husband went down into the cave. As others have pointed out, the ladder itself is not bad, but getting on to it would be scary if you have a fear of heights like I do. We were here around 2 hours. We wanted to head back to San Juan, to try and beat traffic, but there are other activities you could also do while you are out this way. We felt it was worth the drive just visiting here as it had some of the most beautiful vistas I have ever seen, along with the interesting history of the caves and all of the movies that have been filmed here. The restaurant/bar were not open when we visited. The entrance is a bit tricky to find, we went right by it, but turned around at the gas station just past the entrance. On our return trip, we stopped at a fruit stand along the way and bought a coco frio ( for under $2 each). Highly recommend visiting and taking the tour with Peter!

For $2 parking and 50 cents admission this place is a steal.

The views are spectacular and some of the best I've seen while visiting Puerto Rico.

We opted for the self guided tour and its really up to you how adventurous you want to be. We spent a significant amount of time here going down in the cave to see the petroglyphs as well as choosing to hike multiple arches.

I would wear sneakers and would never bring small children here.

Though the ladder for the cave is sturdy, getting to it isn't "easy".

There are no hand rails, fences, etc, so a small child or a careless hiker could easily go tumbling off a cliff.

The terrain is EXTREMELY rocky, so watch you step.

There is some graffiti on the cliff walls which is unfortunate but frankly not unlike the rest of Puerto Rico.

This place is a natural wonder and for the adventurer at heart.

We did a tour with Pete and our experience was fantastic. We have an 11 and an 8 year old and he explained things at their level so that they could learn about the cave as well. He was very knowledgable and taking the tour with him was well worth our tip. He even helped the boys through the cave. The cave itself is awesome and a must-see if you are going to be around that part of the island. The water and waves were mesmerizing there and the boys really enjoyed looking at the bats in the cave.

I combined the visit with Utuado (lunch at Lago Dos Bocas and Cueva Ventana). You will only spend an hour or two here, so you should plan the trip with other local attractions.

The cave is located on private property, and they charge 2 dollars for parking and 50 cents each person. This is very very reasonable. The owner gives a brief history of the property before you head out.

There is a small unkempt shack where they sell refreshment, beers, and food.

There are two attractions: the Indian cave and the view of the arched rock formations.

Definitely worth it.

Easy to find. The drive towards the location was scenic. The view prior entering the small cave was beautifil. The 40 foot lader was swell tied and in good conditions. Must have good reflects to walk on the rocks. Pick a spot, sit, close your eyes and enjoy the sea breeze, warmth of the sun. Bar owner charges $2 parking and .50cents to use the bathroom. Unfortunately there is no supervision to avoid the people damage the petroglifs. Watch your step because it will be difficult to provide medical assitance if you hurt yourself.
