“Walking Glendalough”
Reviewed 18 July 2014

We like to visit Glendalough. Such a beautiful place and surroundings. We especially like to take the walks through the surrounding area. This time we took the 3 mile walk out to the mines ruins. Well we thought the sign said 3 mile round trip. but after an hour or so it dawned on us that it was 3 miles out and 3 miles back. It was a beautiful hike past the upper and lower lakes and up the large glen to the remains of the mine community that was once there. It is spectacular and well worth the time and effort.

The settlement is really interesting but a bit more information about it would have been helpful. We took a walk around the lower lake after visiting the settlement and decided to move on as we wanted to drive to the Sally Gap. However on the way back we had some time and it was such a beautiful day decided to walk up to the Upper Lough. We were so glad we did! It's absolutely awesome. Very majestic and so scenic. Lovely place for a picnic and a dip in the lake. Wish we lived nearer - I would definitely go back there again.

As a teenager I went here on a school trip and my friends and I had so much fun! The trails were beautiful and the lake view was amazing!

“Back again”
Reviewed 16 July 2014

We came back this year again to walk the park. Love this place, though it can get very busy - so go early and park out of the way - buses and tourists clog up the parking areas.
History, walks, water and beautiful scenery. Take a picnic a blanket and a hike.
A great day to be spent here.

“Tranquility despite the tourists”
Reviewed 16 July 2014 via mobile

Just back from walking around the lake and monastic settlement. Lovely having the opportunity to walk back in time and imagine where the monks lived and worshipped. Some ruins and old gravestones with a complete tower as the centrepiece. Gorgeous views of the wicklow mountains and lakes. Take the board walk and then return to your car via the green road. Able to walk it in pumps but trainers might be a better idea. Good idea to pack a picnic. Good wee shop in Laragh, a mile down the road which makes fresh sandwiches. A beautiful free attraction unless you want to go into the visitor centre.
