“Excellent experience - should keep it to adults only though”

My wife and I have just returned from a one night stay at MacNean House. We received a very nice welcome and there was a lot of attention to detail in the room and bathroom including locally sourced toiletries. The food was superb from start to finish and the hospitality from the staff was excellent - not too intrusive but very attentive.

We stayed in a super deluxe room which was lovely. The only problem was that there was a young child in the room below us who decided to run around the room shouting the next morning at 8am for approximately an hour. After having the late sitting meal the night before which concluded at 1am, it was rather unfortunate to have our leisurely morning disrupted. Maybe Nevin might consider making his establishment adults only. This was only a minor blip on a rather wonderful evening.

This was my favourite meal ever bar none. No wonder this place is booked up six months in advance. Everything is perfect - from the warm welcome to the amazing breakfast. Neven's cooking is famous for a reason but you just have to experience it for yourself. However, what marks this place out from all other fine dining establishments is the warmth and friendliness of the staff - no pretentiousness or stuffiness here. No task is too much trouble. Neven is also famous for using local produce in his restaurant, but this attention to detail extends beyond the food - for example, Belleek china used in the restaurant, Voya (from Strandhill, Co. Sligo) products in the bathrooms (both the restaurant toilets and the bathroom attached to our room). The only minor issue was the noise from the bar opposite in the late evening when we were trying to sleep. Clearly this is beyond the control of the property and it didn't bother us, but if you are a light sleeper you might want to request a room at the rear of the property. However, I would not let this put you off - bring ear plugs if necessary - because otherwise you will miss the dining experience of a lifetime. Finally, regarding the location - it is in the middle of nowhere, but it is a very beautiful rural location, near the UNESCO Marble Arch caves, so don't let that put you off either!

Just returned from McNean restaurant and what a beautiful memorable experience. When we arrived on a wet evening in May, we were warmly greeted by a man who brought our luggage to our bedroom and opened our door. He was very attentive and friendly. He gave us a cold bottle of milk and a glass jar of freshly baked cookies, chocolate chip, short bread and many other varieties, they were delicious. Tea and coffee facilities in the bedrooms which my parents were delighted with.

We booked a super deluxe bedroom (sky blue throws and matching pillows as shown in pictures above), The décor in the room was really elegantly designed with neutral colours and ivory furniture. A Victorian bath and rain shower with a variety of products in the bathroom. Our room had a seating area and coffee table, which really added to the ambience and bathrobes and slippers.

We sat in the bar area prior to being seated in the restaurant. We were warmly greeted by an older man serving drinks, he was very friendly and my father really enjoyed the banter. We were also served a range of orderves which were tasty. Our order was taken prior to sitting in the dining room, this was great as a staff member talked us through the menu. We opted for the 5 course meat menu at €72 which is great value, between every course their was a pre-course. Each course was delicious, my personal favourite was hock terrine, peanut chocolate dessert and my beef was cooked perfectly medium as requested. My family and I enjoyed every course and were completely full when leaving even the men! There was a band singing in the bar area after the meal which was delightful. We got the opportunity to meet Nevin after the meal, He was so down to earth, warm and friendly. We got a photo taken with him as well which was great.

Breakfast was excellent, a great variety of yogurt, granola, cereals, pastries (croissants, scones, danshies), freshly squeezed orange and fruit juices. Porridge was also available with Irish mist. We got Irish breakfasts and scrambled egg and boxty. It was all amazing from start to finish. It had a lovely relaxed atmosphere once again. We had the opportunity to buy strawberry jam, marmalade, honey and olive olive all homemade by Nevin and his team which was great. We were also shown around Nevins cookery school which was the icing on the cake.

The smile never left any of our faces for the whole weekend, wonderful memories were created which will forever be remembered. Thank you Nevin and all, we will return!!

Room Tip: Go on get a super deluxe or junior suite, their worth every penny!!

Had a fab experience at MacNeans. A friend booked restaurant and rooms 8 months prior to visit, and we enjoyed a long period of anticipation prior to our visit. Nothing in the village of Blacklion except MacNean House and a small pub over the road. had a drink there, then back for the meal. Neven was there and welcomed us while we were waiting to be seated. Nibbles were offered while he walked us through the menu. The food was amazing, and there were amuse bouches throughout. We are all foodies, and the quality and presentation of the food was even better than all we had heard about it. We had the late sitting, and finished after midnight. there is a residents' bar for late tipples.
Breakfast the next morning was again just perfect. The fluffiest , whitest poached eggs I have ever seen, and great savoury options too. Not a cheap experience, actually quite expensive, but you will need to book months ahead, and so will have time to save.
In among my top ten best meals ever, it is a great experience for a special occasion. Everybody working there was lovely and made us feel very welcome. I know that I will return there to work my way through the menu!

Just got home from here this morning have to say it was the most amazing meal I have ever had. We booked the townhouse as there was no other rooms available but got a call asking us that morning if we wanted a deluxe suit that had become available for the same price we were delighted! The meal was beautiful you go in first have a drink while they take your order love this and the walk you across the way to the dinning room. The service was spot on the staff are brilliant and they explain what everything is on the plate when it comes to the table. Everyone was so friendly and helpful would definitely go back soon. Nice quite town and Mac Nean House is a little gem!

Well worth the wait. Amazing evening meal- every course was outstanding. The service was wonderful and we were upgraded to a gorgeous room. Breakfast the next morning was also a real treat. Already looking forward to our next visit.

Found out last September we were going to visit MacNean House and I was very excited as they only open booking twice a year and it is so popular we were waiting from August to April to get there. The Day came and we arrived and were greeted warmly and shown to our rooms which were decorated in a modern country style. Even then we were handed a bottle of fresh chilled milk for our tea/coffee. We ventured down to the bar area where our drinks orders were taken and since my wife is pregnant she had the non-alcoholic option of a refreshing drink. Our orders were taken and we were then seated in the dining room which was beautifully appointed. There was an amuse-bouche of carrot and ginger mousse/puree. Then on to the starter, the continue and a palette cleanser before the wonderful main course. Every course was explained to us and the choice was cooked to perfection in 4 or 5 different ways. Then the dessert which was to me my favourite , i chose the signature Chocolate sensation, which i can assure you lives up to its name, but before that arrived we received a pre dessert - dessert which was delicious . After we finished our meal which took a leisurely 2 and a half hours, we were shown back to the bar area where we relaxed for a few hours in comfortable surroundings. When we retired to our room, we found the bed comfortable and slept a great sleep.
We woke the following morning and showered which i may say that the water pressure and the heat were way above standard for any other hotel. We were going for breakfast and found an Easter egg hanging off each door handle, thanks again Neven! Breakfast was great a real gourmet meal in itself. As we were relaxing in the reception area we got talking to the breakfast manager who offered us a quick tour of the cookery school which is a sight to see in itself. At checkout we were handed a complimentary copy or Nevins cookbook, which was signed!
On the whole we found the experience outstanding and will hopefully get back there again soon. The staff were so warm and welcoming best i have ever met!

Room Tip: Ask for a back room as the front rooms are on the main road even though it is a quiet village.
