“Worth it for the view alone”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 September 2013

We have just returned from a 7 night stay at Quilty Cottages. We are 2 adults & 3 children (18,13 & 10). We booked the week through Irish Ferries & got a really good rate as the children in Ireland had gone back to school & therefore off-peak. We didn't use the onsite facilities as much as we'd planned as the weather was nice so we spent days out but the one time we used the pool we were lent swimming caps to use which I thought was really nice as I had expected to pay for them.

On arrival our property & bedding did smell a little musty but a spray of Fabreeze & washing the pillow slips did help & certainly wasn't cause for complaint. Probably typical of a cottage which had been closed up for a short time but is worth the owners taking into account for the future.

We missed our outbound ferry so were late in arriving but a quick email to Danny & we were given directions & details of which cottage we were staying in. We didn't arrive until 12.30am so it was nice not to have to disturb anyone on our arrival.

My youngest daughter had surfing lessons from Preacher at Spanish Point beach & as an absolute beginner was standing on the board 'catching waves' as she put it, within 10 minutes. There is plenty to do around the area & a couple of nice restaurants in Miltown Malby - I would definitely recommend The Bakehouse.

The owners were very helpful whenever we needed them & let us have a late checkout on the last day which meant we could take our time packing as our ferry wasn't until 21.00.

All in all we really enjoyed our stay at Quilty cottages. As Danny says they don't claim to be 5* accommodation but the view & location are certainly 5*+

We have just come back from a week's stay at Quilty Holiday Cottages (52, 51, 13 from the UK). Arriving a little late we had trouble finding the place but once we did we met the owner Danny and we were in our cottage within minutes. The local children had just gone back to school so we benefited from an excellent price and, as a result, decided to pay a bit more for an Atlantic View. It was well worth it - fantastic view across the bay to Spanish Point Beach. The cottages sleep 6; as there was only 3 of us we had plenty of room. I think a family of 6 would have plenty of space. The bedrooms are a good size with plenty of cupboard space. The grounds are well maintained and nicely laid out. It was a real bonus to have a pool on a site this size and we made good use of it. There was a games room with the usual fayre (table tennis/Pool) and I thought the Tennis court was good as well. OK, it was concrete but it was well marked out with a good net. You do have to drive to get anywhere but to be honest it was a matter of minutes to the beach or to the next town with some good restaurants. It was a really relaxing place. If you are looking for a center parcs type holiday then don't go here. If you want a relaxing, safe place in a beautiful location with good quality accomodation and a nice family feel then I would certainly recommend Quilty Holiday Cottages. Our son is 13 and he had a great time, but I think it would especially be suited to little ones (under 10s maybe). The hosts are helpful, keeping out of your way but there if you need them. It is only distance stopping us from returning - I will always retain happy memories of our stay in Quilty and would recommend it to young families and people looking for real peace and quiet when the kids are back in school.

We stayed here from 22-25 August, and we loved every minute of our stay there. The site owners Danny & Geraldine were very welcoming and a pleasure to deal with. There was zero hassle checking in and out, and the electricity charges were minimal. The houses were immaculate and well maintained, and we were even upgraded to the 4* which was an added bonus. The facilities on site were ideal for the kids aged 12,8 and 5 which comprised of an onsite pool, games room, playroom, tennis courts and sandpit which kept them entertained. I would highly recommend this resort and we will definitely be returning in the near future.

We stayed here from 23rd august for 3 nights. The cottages were spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The location is fantastic with splendid views over the Atlantic ocean. The children loved the free access to the indoor heated pool and games room. The owner of the site was very helpful and very friendly even giving us a lift to the shop when our car broke down. We needed to stay an extra night and there was no problem with this. We will definitely be returning here next year. Thank you Danny.

We stayed here with our two boys aged 2 and 6 for five nights. I would definitely recommend westpark as its a fantastic base for a family holiday. The house itself is a little oldfashioned but has everything in it that you might need. The swimming pool is an asset to the site and we used it nearly everyday..most of the time we were the only ones in it!! The electricity was very cheap so we didnt mind paying it on top of the house price.
Overall I think its ideally placed for visiting anything in the surrounding area and the owners danny and Geraldine were very helpful...we will be back. Thanks Aisling and Damien Campbell

Just returned from 2 weeks in Quilty cottages where our two families rented two of the cottages side by side. The cottages are exactly what I expected from looking at the website - 4 star in a 1980's way with dated furnishings but do not let that put you off. They were clean, well equipped, comfortable with stunning views. The beds were exceptionally comfortable ~(even the insomniac slept well) and the houses very spacious with plenty of extra space - more like a house really than a cottage. As for the infamous "immersion" rather than an electric shower - I never needed it. There seemed to be enough water constantly.

The complex as such is extremely well kept, and well appointed with plenty of room for children to run safely around without supervision (the younger are aged 6 and 4). Although you do have to drive one mile to a beach, the onsite pool and sauna, sandpit, donkey and games room more than make up for that inconvenience and on rainy days you don't have to move an inch to keep the kids occupied. Also great place for the kids to cycle around and the 6 year old said goodbye to her stabilisers on holidays as Danny had promised. A big plus for any family is the industrial sized dryer located at the pool (free of charge) - a winner for those wet towels and clothes on rainy days.

The older kids (11 and 13) were enrolled in a Surf School at the nearby Spanish Point beach every day from 11 - 1 which wore them out and kept them entertained (only €70). There are also swimming lessons running every weekday in the pool should you need them. The location is great for exploring the Burren, Lisdoonvarna, the Cliffs or further south to Kilrush and Kilkee. On the one really wet day we had, we drove the 45 minutes to Ennis and went to the cinema. There are plenty of pubs and restaurants in nearby Miltown Malbay and the Armada hotel (one mile away) has a great little pub. Most have music during the week.

We also ate a special meal out in Barr Tra - a lovely fish restaurant in a little cottage half way between Quilty and Lahinch. Oh, I forgot about Lahinch. Great lively town with everything (including a circus), seaworld, beaches, shops, restaurants and pool located about a 20 minute drive away.

As for the owners - Danny and Geraldine, couldn't be more helpful and while this is a holiday village, the fact that it is family run makes it all the more welcoming. Great Irish holiday. Danny had told me in advance that it was the type of place "where parents go out to look for the children at bed time as they have all congregated in the games room or the playground" and he couldn't have put it better. Your kids will love it! We will be back.

Spend a week (Aug 10 17), had a very enjoyable time, owners are very friendly & helpful, very central for touring (beaches are less than 5 minutes drive), the kids loved the place, the games room the tennis courts and the swings, the swimming pool is fabulous and there are great places to eat nearby.
