“A WONDERFUL STAY”
Reviewed 29 April 2011

We have just returned to the U.K after 4 months of travelling in N.Z & Australia, staying mainly in motels.Roger & Marilyn were the most welcoming of hosts, nothing was too much trouble. They lent us chairs, windbreaks etc for the beach at no extra charge. The room was large, airy and spotless and so comfortable-it was good to have a choice of shower & bath. The swimming pool was clean and inviting.Acacia Lodge is situated in a quiet spot but within walking distance of amenities.A wonderful stay-wish it could have been longer-we intend to return.

We had a Sunseeker Holidays Voucher and booked for three nights, and were looking forward to a break away . When we arrived there was a family using the pool, which was just outside our room, with two screaming kids (a sign on the gate to the pool said no screaming or shouting). That night was spent trying to sleep through the loud noise of a refrigerator just feet from our bed, each time we needed to use the toilet, the door grated on the floor tiles, and the taps and toilet were noisy as well. The next morning we spent in Manganui due to bad weather and after lunch it cleared enough for us to walk around Mill Bay. The 2nd night was as noisy as the first so we decided to leave and not use the third night. I did mention on leaving about the noisy taps and grating door on leaving

Room Tip: Dont stay in room 6, get upper floor

After a fabulous one night break away here in January, my huspand surprised me with a night away for my 40th in March. Lovely comfortable room with great view, balcony, pool and even a stunning love heart on the bed especially for my arrival-all organised efficiently by Roger and Marilyn. Roger and Marilyn are very friendly and helpful and we would escape here every weekend if we could. Gorgoeus location right on the water, and although the walls are a bit thin, the relaxing ambience and wonderful spa bath all add to the wonderful getaway. Our hosts offered great dining advice and the local thai and acorn restaurants are fantastic. Great value for money- we will be back!

We bought a telemarketed voucher some time ago, and found it impossible to get a booking, even though they were not full. Apparently only a few rooms are made available to voucher holders! So, we did what they said and booked for 3 nights over 6 months ahead. Then, just before our scheduled stay we had a domestic problem that meant we couldn't go. The managers, very nicely we thought, let us move our now fully prepaid booking ahead by 4 months. What they didn't tell us was that by doing so we had to forfeit 2 of our 3 prepaid breakfasts!! When we questioned this once we were there, we were told very rudely that they were totally inflexible on this, regardless of the fact that we had paid for 3.
So, nice room; nice and very welcome pool; but not nice to be ripped off! Beware:(

acaciaMangonui, Manager at Acacia Lodge Motel, responded to this review, 18 March 2011
In response to this review, it is important to put things into perspective to get a more ‘balanced’ perspective, and hopefully the following will do just that.

The first area of concern that we have are the ‘ratings’ and we will analyse these…
“Value”… Question…if a 3-night package deal stay (in a Deluxe Studio room with King bed, kitchenette, shower over bath, large room on the top floor and having a private balcony with water views for a total cost of $269.00) does not sound like good value??? Plus, throw in a FREE breakfast??? (4-star room at back-packer rates)
“Cleanliness”…We pride ourselves on the high standard of cleanliness and presentation of this room! We have only recently put down new carpet, and we have removed the net curtains and re-glazed the entrance door. All rooms are serviced daily by a team of professional woman staff members.
“Service” …Our office is manned all day every day. We offer advice on tourist attractions and activities including directions and booking assistance for tours and local dining experiences. We are always available to talk to our guests and try to ensure that their stay is as relaxing and enjoyable as possible.

With regard to the balance of the review, the most important thing to remember is that this party (who wish to remain anonymous) had been in the possession of their voucher for approximately 18mths before it expired and had plenty of time to make a booking with us. We cannot be held responsible for not having a room available at short notice.
We were not obligated to extend the ‘use-by’ date on the voucher, but did so out of fairness to this party. Because of the ‘new’ conditions (the original contract expired) it was agreed that there would now only be a Continental breakfast provided on the first morning instead of the three (3) that was part of the original deal. This being the ONLY change! This could hardly be called a “Rip-Off”!!!

My final words on this are: Why did this party buy into this promotion if they did not consider it ‘value for money’ and if they had any issues with respect to the ‘Service & Cleanliness’, why did they not raise that with us?

We stayed at the Acacia Lodge for two night in January 2011 and we loved Mangonui and the lodge, nested in a lovely quiet bay next to the centre. We had a nice room upstair, with balcony and a lot of space. The owner are helpfull and friendly, and they even gave us 4 hours of free wireless internet, more than enough for a 2 night stay!
maybe the bathroom needed just a bit of maintainance, but it had a spa bath that was nice.
Overall the room was more than worth the value, definitely recommended!

What a find this place was! All thanks to Roger and Marilyn for making our week away in the far north such a great experience.

I heartily recommend Acacia Lodge Motel to anyone wanting a truly relaxing and serene time. The 4 of us really enjoyed the friendly and generous hosting and company. To sit and have a beer with Roger while overlooking the great pool and wonderful Mill Bay was very special. And then to be invited out fishing with Roger on his boat, was one of the most memorable personal touches ever extended to us on a holiday. Pity he caught the biggest fish though! (A very tasty 12lb snapper!)

Thanks again from us all fotr helpuing make or holiday so wonderful. (Laura says hi to Bayley, the cut little motal pup)
