“Mangonui”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 April 2014

Was offered a three night stay at Acacia Lodge Motel for a very special price which a friend and I took up. Lovely apartment with two rooms, each with two comfortable beds, well appointed kitchen and comfortable living area. The second floor gave us a view of that corner of the harbour and a beautiful pohutakawa tree. Great pool for the morning swim. One negative, they charged for WiFi, sorry, that is a big no no for me. Just as easy to have a coffee in the little town in the morning and use the free WiFi available.

Room Tip: Upper floors will be the quietest, i a very quiet area, but less foot traffic past your window.

After a long journey down from the tip of North Island we arrived at tha Acacia Lodge Motel. We were made very welcome and invited to inspect the room before deciding if we wanted to stay. The room was spotless and more than adequate for our needs, comfy bed, super shower lovely view over the harbour. After settling in we went down into Mangonui to eat and were spoilt for choice. All in all a fantastic place to spend a few days and can't recommend this motel highly enough.

Room Tip: All good but stay upstairs if you want a superb view

We have just spent time here and the room was very clean, and our first night came with complimentary contintental breakfast which was already in the room when we arrived. Bread wrapped up in gladwrap siting on the bench, not even in the fridge. Mind you have experienced this before at a motel in the far north. There were no tissues supplied, a small closet which also housed ironing board, iron and heater, coat hangers but none you could hang trousers on. The shower had no soap holder, so soap either resided on floor or on top of shower housing.. Hubby went to reception about something and rang the bell only to hear "oh what now" comment, so must have been a bad hair day. When we returned from a lovely meal out in Mangonui township, parked car and there is no security lighting that comes or even pemanent lighting to show you up the stairwell to your unit. As mentioned earlier very clean and cleaning staff very nice, but would probably go elsewhere if returned to this idyllic spot in the north.

Just had 5 nights accommodation at Acacia Lodge. Unit 5. We were really comfortable in this studio apartment. Quiet. Good view across the pool to the harbour.
Managers Denise and Chris are extremely helpful and very pleasant people, contributing to a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
Lots to do in the area. Great beaches, and a lot of history to soak up.
This has been a tremendous holiday

Room Tip: Our downstairs corner room was great

Beautiful spot overlooking Mill Bay - just stunning. Very comfortable and great hosts. Property a little tired but very clean and good comfortable beds. First time I have ever seen a flannel especially for removing make up - nice touch! Good pool area for relaxing around.

What a location for a motel right on the waters edge in an ideallic inlet in one of the prettiest villages in NZ. Only 10 minutes walk or 1 minute by car to the village of Mangonui but a walk with stunning views on the way you hardly notice the time passing and should not stop you staying here. Mangonui has great cafes and restaurants the Indian and the Thai are particularly good. The motel is comfortable with a good pool and ample parking. The 1970's style bathrooms could do with an update but they serve the purpose. Bedroom, lounge and kitchen come with all the comforts you need.

Room Tip: A ground floor unit by the pool will spoil the exquisite view of the bay from your room. First floor...

We booked well in advance and were just as disappointed as "good4trav". It was us walking around on the floor above you ... and we could also hear conversations held in adjoining rooms where people were only talking... not good at all. Water in pipes could clearly be heard from both rooms to our left and right and people walking anywhere seemed to travel directly to us.

FREE Wifi was touted on their website and when asked about it... the Free is for 30 minutes... the rest you get to pay for. Thats actually not Free Wifi - thats a complaint to "The Golden Chain" network - which I will be making shortly.

Materials in the room guide were a year out of date and the reception TV was a pile of static from one channel to the next. The bathroom was very dated and there seemed to be a water leak above the main entrance door to our room, which was odd as we were on the top floor. At the time they had run out of sheets and forgotten to order any and the male manager of the two seemed to spend his whole day out fishing while his wife ran the place. On the whole tragic. We will not be returning. Not the best for my special birthday out of town getaway. :(

Room Tip: Do not book - arrive and pop in to check on facilities ... do a walk around and compare prices and f...
