Walton Court Country House

We stayed for two weeks in the Bakery cottage. The old bakery oven is part of the living room, as all old cottages are part of the elder-style cottages in the centre courtyard. The new Harbourview Cottages are around the corner and furnished in a modern style.
The biggest attraction for the children is the swimming pool, and for older children the watersport courses nearby. For the parents the cafe is a great for a lunch or coffee break, and even the homemade bread is very tasty.
The surrounding area is apart from the bay not very attractive, as the coastline is private property everywhere. So you need a car to reach other attractive spots like Nohavel Cove or the beaches at Garrettstown.

Spent 2 nights in a self-catering accommodation just looking for R&R. I slept like a baby! The grounds of Walton Court provide a treat for the eye from every angle, and you could easily spend hours just wandering around the property with a sketchbook... (Hmmm - note to self!) It's less than 15 minutes from Kinsale and less than 30 from Cork City Centre, situated right on the water's edge. The newly-opened cafe provides luscious lunches and yummy treats. Paul and Janis Rafferty have worked hard to transform this property from a ruin to a beautiful landmark that I would recommend to anyone!

Walton Court provides a beautiful, Irish venue for any family based activity or holiday - in our case it was my sister's wedding and our extended family and friends stayed in the self catering accommodation which is on site. My wife, 11 month old son and I stayed in the French cottage which is in the courtyard next to the main house and it was perfect for us. Close to the cafe which was open at weekends, the enclosed, heated pool and the cottage was clean, cosy and well appointed.

A problem with the shower which I notified the proprietors of on the morning of my sisters wedding(!) was dealt with professionally and without fuss. This was whilst preparations were going on for preparing (excellent) food for 90 people that afternoon. This rather sums up the attitude and teamwork which was evident throughout our stay.

We would also say that the onsite babysitter Chloe, was professional, responsible and friendly and we would have no problem in recommending her services if you have any event where you would prefer the children to be at home.

Wouldn't be a balanced review without some constructive criticism:
- some of the cottages which were being used by friends were not fully stocked (i.e. ironing board but no iron) this was rectified upon notification.
- not all the guests were introduced to the proprietors (even after a 4 day stay). So if there were any issues they did not know who to approach. Maybe a bit over the top for a self-catering accommodation but it was raised and thought it should be included.

Overall a beautiful location, perfect for families and friends - a memorable and happy time was had by all of us.

Room Tip: Smaller cottages are in the courtyard next to the house and are built in a rustic style. Larger, mor...

Walton Court is like a fairytale! The beautiful old house sits in stunning grounds, where you feel a surprise awaits you around every corner, like a secret garden or a gypsy caravan! The gardens have a sense of timelessness and serenity.

The accommodation (we stayed in one of the townhouses) was perfect - modern and spacious and very clean!!

The cafe has a European flavour to it and serves delicious cakes. It's an easy place to while away some hours...

It is the perfect base for a holiday. We felt very well looked after by everyone there.

What a lovely place. The beauty of the surroundings was matched by the tastefully decorated yet quaint courtyard cottage in which we stayed. The kids went mad for the swimming pool and the ping pong table whilst we spent a large part of the week relaxing outside the courtyard cafe indulging in good coffee (thats roasted locally, apparently) and gorging on home made cakes. Kinsale is twee and rather nice and there are plenty of good local walks that the dogs enjoyed.
Highly recommended.

Room Tip: The "courtyard" cottages are quaint country style whilst the "harbour apartments"...

We chose Walton Court as our children were booked to take part in a week long course at oysterhaven activity centre- Walton court is just across the road. We stayed in one of the newer harbour cottages. It was clean and very comfortable with good beds, dishwasher, washerdryer etc. Janice and paul, the owners, and Tracey, who works there, are lovely, friendly and welcoming people. Lunch/ cakes in the cafe are excellent and we all really enjoyed their barbecue night.
The area is good for watersports and walks, you are a short drive from Kinsale. We would definitely go back.

We loved our week spent at Walton Court. Despite the temperamental weather the kids were kept well entertained with ping pong and table football.
The cottage we stayed in was very cosy and the bay of Oysterhaven was beautiful. We might be back again next year.
