“Different experience in Phuket”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 February 2014

We have been going to Phuket for the last 15 years and have always stayed at a hotel on one of the major beaches. This place is away from it all and has a different feel. Surrounded by forests and with a distant view of the sea, it is a refreshing experience - very peaceful, relaxing and comfortable. The rooms are luxurious, staff friendly and restaurant with nice food and music. The only downside being that the villas are not kid friendly which meant we had to be extra careful with our young children. Otherwise, highly recommended.

Room Tip: Go there if you want to get away from the tourist scene at the beaches.

I will preface this review by saying that Villa Zolitude is not ideal for everyone. If you are looking for a Patong-style setting outside of your door, this hotel is not for you. With that said, however, Villa Zolitude is by far the single best hotel experience we have ever had.

My wife and I chose to stay at Villa Zolitude for six nights as part of our honeymoon in Phuket. The location is serene, the service staff is fantastic, and the grounds are completely pristine. I will structure this review by writing a brief synopsis of all aspects of the hotel that Trip Advisors asks me to give a star rating for.

Service
The staff at the hotel are fantastic, and this clearly stems from the strong leadership provided by their manager, Bus. Bus' charisma and friendliness are contagious, and he was a genuine treat to interact with daily. Not only did he take the time to introduce himself to us our first night at dinner, he would never fail to stop and chat with you whenever he would see you around the resort. His positive disposition also carried over to his staff. Everyone on the grounds would always greet you by saying hello and smiling at you, regardless of whatever else they were doing. They definitely pay extreme attention to their guests. In terms of the restaurant staff, you almost feel bad asking them for something because they literally run to get you whatever it is that you asked for. I could not imagine having better service.

On an aside, I read in a review below that the staff does not speak English well. This is not at all an accurate portrayal of our experience. All of the customer facing staff that we dealt with had at least a working knowledge of English. We had no difficulties communicating with them. As should be expected when travelling to a foreign land, someone in the service industry may not have intimate knowledge of your home language. But, as we lucky folk who get to travel often forget, we are going to a new country where English is not the primary language. Stop being lazy and pick up a basic Thai phrase book. Villa Zolitude gets guests from around the world. You can't expect them to only cater to you.

Value
The value per dollar is greater at this hotel than at any other hotel I have ever stayed at. The attention to detail is equivalent if not better than a Four Seasons or Ritz Carlton property, and the quality of your room trumps anything else you will ever get for that price. Also, the cost and quality of the food in the restaurant is fantastic. It definitely caters to all budgets.

Sleep Quality
We had a one bedroom villa, and it was very well equipped. The king size bed was fantastic, and I am fairly certain the hotel actually changed the sheets every day. Given that you are in a remote setting, we did hear the occasional cicada outside. Unfortunately, you cannot control when they decide to make noise (and they are surprisingly loud). However, the villas are well insulated for sound, and their sound is heavily filtered by the villa.

Cleanliness
The hotel and the grounds are spotless. You actually see people cleaning/sweeping/dusting nearly every moment of the day. It is surreal. Around 9 or 10pm, we would even see someone dusting the entire ceiling of the check in area. You could realistically not expect anything more.

Location
The location may be the only deterring factor if you want to be able to walk off the resort and find a bustling crowd every night of your stay. If you want to have peace and quiet, this resort is spectacular. Also, they have cabs on-call to help you go wherever it is you would like to go. We went into Patong one night, and that was sufficient for us. It is approximately a 35-45 minute drive away.

Rooms
Our villa was very well appointed. We had both an indoor and outdoor shower, a king-size bed, 7-8 foot windows (with sliding covers) providing a 180 degree vantage of the trees and mountains around us, a huge bathtub, two sinks, a soaker pool, two lounge chairs, etc. Our entire living area was probably 2000 square feet.

Fitness Centre
This was the only lacklustre part of the property. I believe they have one stationary bike and one universal gym. Although, given the weather in Thailand, you can always find a time of day to go running outside.

Spa
The spa was fantastic. Their facilities are very clean, and their spa menu was quite exhaustive. Also, their couples discounts make getting a massage or other treatment quite affordable.

We loved Villa Zoltitude, from the moment we checked in to the moment we left. The service is impeccable and staff can’t do enough for you, all of them friendly and helpful. The location of the resort halfway up the Chalong mountainside means the resort is isolated; there are no mini marts or 7-11’s in walking distance, however this is why we chose it. It was a lovely change for us to spend time at a resort that is not on a beach. We are a family of 3, with a 12 year old son and we stayed for four nights in a grand deluxe pool villa in mid-January. It was simply… magnificent; we were in the fourth row and the last villa in our row and so were pretty much surrounded by forest/jungle and the view was stunning, especially the sunrises we were luckily enough to see on two occasions. Each time we needed to leave the villa (e.g. for breakfast, to go to the main pool etc.) we called reception and a staff member would zip up in a buggy or small van as the small road/path to the rows of villas is very steep and narrow, the car would arrive within a couple of minutes and this just added to the whole experience of staying there. The villa is itself is huge, superbly appointed with glorious floor to ceiling windows with wooden blinds on rollers. The marble bath is enormous, I’m 164 cms and I could lie down flat (luxury), the separate shower is huge with two shower heads with superb water pressure. The day bed downstairs is large enough for two people to sleep in and this downstairs room is accessed by an external staircase and opens directly onto the private deck and pool. The private pool is much bigger than I was expecting and not freezing!

The mini bar is stocked daily with two complimentary beers and two complimentary cans of soft drink. The resort provides four bottles of water a day and didn’t hesitate to increase this to 6 bottles a day when we asked for more water (at no extra charge).

The breakfast was excellent with extensive choices catering to all tastes. I loved that you are given a whole pot of tea or coffee instead of trying to catch the eye of a waitress for a re-fill like other resorts, my son also loved his pot of hot chocolate. We ate at the restaurant for two nights and while the food was Ok, it wasn’t outstanding, that said, there was nothing particularly wrong either. We arranged for a taxi to take us to Mom Tri’s Villa Royale in Kata Noi for dinner one night and lunch on another day and it cost 500 baht each way (about a 30 minute drive)

The resort infinity pool was perfect, the water wasn’t icy cold like some resorts, the pavilion with the pool table was also a bonus.
We took advantage of the resort’s free shuttle to and from Nai Harn beach one afternoon (which was an eye opener) it’s very busy with masses of umbrellas but once you get used to the crowd it’s a great way to spend the afternoon. I highly recommend Villa Zolitude and we plan to go back next year as we loved it so much.

The setting is stunning and the rooms are great. Cleaning staff great and efficient. Breakfast buffet amazing (note to Manager- the poached eggs are hard as a rock-- I would suggest taking it off the buffet and adding it to the Omlette station menu and make them fresh-( and review with staff that they shouldn't be hard boiled)- I could see that everyone was looking at them then walking away)) We booked this for a special treat as we don't usually pay this kind of money on vacations. The biggest disappointment was the staff- most we interacted with could barely speak English or understand us. At Check-in there was one young man who had no idea what was going on, and two other staff who hovered but didn't help him- they looked just as lost. A very young man was told to give us the hotel brief- very friendly but clearly didn't know what he was supposed to tell us, and was hard to understand.Everywhere we travelled in Phuket, most staff had a working knowledge of English, but here most did not at all. It became very frustrating- we asked 4 different people if we could park our car in a certain place- we got four different answers and most had no idea what we were asking. Same issue in the restaurant, on the phone calling re changing our transport time etc etc. We ultimately just gave up asking. We met the chef as we were interested in the cooking class- she could not speak English at all- so we didn't book. This property is supposed to be high end… if it wasn't then I would be more patient about the language issues. The day we arranged a car there was a lady named "Mint"- at the front desk- clearly experienced, spoke great english and was very helpful. I didn't see a manager around the whole 6 days we were there- I think this is the problem- if you hit the right time/right staff they know what they are doing and can speak english, the rest of the time, not at all. The other issue as others have said is transport- it is great to be in the forest and it is wonderfully peaceful- but if you want to go to the beach or shop, you either need to get a taxi every time - and it adds up, or rent a car (we did the latter and it was overall cheaper than taxis) or just stay at the resort the whole time. There is a free shuttle once a day to the Beach- it leaves at 1 and returns at 430 so very limited. The free shuttle to the mall leaves at 11 am and returns 230 so again limited. I think ultimately it is a great spot if you just want to swim in your pool, read a book and chill. If you want to see Phuket, it is too isolated. For a high end hotel, they need a manager on site and staff need English classes. Finally a fitness room would have been nice.

Dear capevan1234,
Warmest greetings from Villa Zolitude, Phuket!
We would like to express our gratitude to you for choosing our Resort as your preferred venue of accommodation and in investing valuable time to share with us your constructive feedback.
We are pleased to hear that you loved our Villa, enjoyed buffet breakfast and efficiency of cleaning staff.
On another note, we are disturbed by your comments on the English communication skills of our colleagues in the resort. Please accept our heartfelt apologies that we gave you such a negative impression. We thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. We are always actively working to improve service levels and your feedback has proved to be invaluable. This has highlighted that there exists an opportunity for more intensive training on our part.
On different notes, the poached egg on buffet and limited of our shuttle bus had been shared accordingly with the Management. Please accept our apologies again for making you feel otherwise.
On the last comment that you didn't see manager around for 6 days. Please be assured that our managers are always available to assist our guests immediately, especially on request. The our managers are always at the resort for 7 days a week to be of service to the resort guests. We seek your kind understanding on this. However, we thank you very much for the feedback and our sincere apologies that you didn't see our manager during your stay.
We hope these would not stop you from returning and giving us another chance. We sincerely hope to be of service to you again.

We enjoyed 5 beautiful days at the peaceful Villa Zolitude.  The villas are dotted on a hillside just 5 minutes off the road from Phuket Town to Kata Beach, but light-years away from the busy beach resorts, hustle and bustle of other parts of Phuket.

All villas are spacious and have private pools which are a good size (circa 15 sqr meters) with private deck and sun beds.  We asked for a secluded villa which we certainly got (110) although that did mean 58 steps up from the road - good to work off those full breakfasts though!  There are villas closer to the paths that snake through the premises so make your request carefully.  Because the resort is on a hill most things you need are either up or down hill so the resort provides a free shuttle service. We thought this might be a problem but it really wasn't - Dial 0 on the room phone and a man in a little van is with you in just a few minutes to whisk you (up in our case) to breakfast!

Once up the 58 wooden steps, the Villa was on one level with lounge area including worktop, small sink, fridge (with complimentary, water soft drinks and a couple of beers per day) , kettle etc. and access to the deck through patio windows. The bedroom was a good size with large comfortable bed.  Large double sink with separate toilet, spa bath and shower (very large!) located behind the bed.  Theres a TV in the lounge and bedroom but you don't come here to watch TV.   I believe the grand villas are over 2 floors and have a bigger deck and area for the extra 2000 or so Baht per night.

There is just one restaurant serving meals throughout the day.  Breakfast was an impressive affair and all you could really ask for (except of course for great sausages which eludes all of the far east in my experience :-( )   We ate Dinner in the restaurant a few times and the food was of a high standard although portions perhaps on the small side?  The menu was varied with asian, european and red meat dishes (imported steak etc).

The main infinity pool is a very peaceful place with a few sun beds and views over to Phuket Town and the southern coast.  It was very peaceful and not used a lot as most guests are out for the day or using their own private pools.

The hotel has its own taxi arrangements which take about 15 minutes to come (600 Baht to Patong, 300 Baht to Phuket Town - one way).  As is the way in Thailand the driver is happy to wait for you at no cost to ensure he gets the return fare.

Staff across the hotel are amazingly friendly, efficient and genuine.  Thank you to all of you for making our stay so pleasant.

So if your looking at a bit of luxury and privacy away from the crowds look no further than Villa Zolitude.

I stay with my husband early of Jan 2014. We feel just like back home, all staffs of Villa always smile and provide a lot of help. Even though I book one day tour, the tour agent forget to pick up us. Miss Mint contact agent and help us to arrange taxi and meet the local tour in meet point. I have a great time in Phuket and Zolitude.

And our Villa with Chalong good view, we can enjoy sunrise with breskfast too.

Thanks a lot all ladies and gentlemen.
