Shanti Lodge - Phuket
Reviewed 22 January 2014

Not sure why this place isn't rated higher as it was a hidden gem. We spent five nights here during our trip around the world where we stayed in 69 places! This was one of the better spots and we have fond memories of our time there. We were in adjoining rooms in one of the upstairs areas.

The restaurant was great - both the western food and the Thai or Thai-inspired dishes. During our days there, we ate at the restaurant for nearly every meal and tried so many of the items on the menu. I loved that they had many VEGAN options as my daughter and I are vegan. :-) Favorites are the veggie burger and a pasta dish with tomato sauce and Thai spices. Of course the standard Thai dishes were also yummy too! The pool area was nice and we enjoyed just hanging out in the common area.

We did NOT have a car when we were there, which more or less meant we were trapped. It's not in a great location in terms of being able to get to the beach, shopping or other restaurants. You really do need a car if you want to do all of that! If you just want a place to chill, you can easily spend a couple days or longer just relaxing at Shanti.

Room Tip: Definitely eat at the restaurant!

After an amazing stay at the Shanti Bangkok we had to stay at the Phuket Shanti. This place is amazing. By far the best food we have had in Thailand and very reasonable prices. We had booked for 2 days and extended to four days. The owner, Kim helped us put together a cheap boat tour that took us away from the busy beaches and into Paradise. Supplied fishing gear, snorkel gear and prepared packed lunches. I really felt at home here. Can't wait to return one day! Thanks Shanti!!

I stayed at this wonderful hotel last December for 10 days or so. It was the most relaxed place with fantastic food and friendly staff. Everyone was very helpful and Harvey a long time resident was quick to deliver a great story. Anyhow, I have just booked to go back in January 2013 and cannot wait !

I stayed in this hotel for almost a week upon first arriving to Phuket. The "lodge" possesses a wonderful garden sanctuary type charm and has a beautiful salt water pool next to the lobby. The open air restaurant serves spectacular Thai food at a very reasonable price. For 100 Baht more you can go into the kitchen and learn how to cook the dish of your choice.
The rooms are very charming with their embroidered Thai bed covers and wooden furniture. My room was quite large and had a nice view of the garden below. If you are looking to save some money you can book a room with a communal bathroom. The communal bathroom has 2 showers and 1 toilet, it is very clean and I never had to wait!

Word of warning, if you book a room that has communal showers it can be a bit noisy at night. People sometimes come back to their rooms at 1 or 2 am and the floorboards are REALLY creaky. I would recommend earplugs, or just spend a little bit more and stay in the other building. As for location, this hotel is located near Chalong Bay, which is great if you want to take boats to the other island or do some scuba diving. If you want to spend your days on the beach this hotel is a bit far, about a 15 minute drive. Overall I would recommend this place if you want a place to relax away from the craziness :)
