This house is in the most beautiful setting you can imagine with views over the Donegal Mountains. It is only a short distance from the lovely town of Ramelton which opens onto lough swilly. The rooms were just beautiful and our room had a lovely sofa and table in front of a large windown with spectacular views. The ensuite was one of the biggest i have ever seen and if you have children there is access to another room so you can all be close together. Our host Anne was lovely and what a spread. She is a qualified chef and provided us with loads of little tastie nibbles and it was lovely to have received a glass of wine on arrival after our long journey.
The breakfast was beautiful, local butchers sausages, home made bread , and the icing on the cake was that it was all served in the most stunning breakfast room, surronded by glass on all sides with spectacular views. highly enjoyable and recommended.

The town of Ramelton itself has a very rich history and has been designated a National Heritage Town. It has a wealth of architectural heritage with fine old Georgian town houses and a lovely tree lined mall. The area was the homeland of the O'Donnells, the ruling clan of Donegal, from the 12th century. In the 16th century Calvagh O'Donnell built the Killydonnell Franciscan Friary above Lough Swilly on a site which previously housed an earlier church possibly dating back to the 10th Century. The Friary was closed at the time of the Plantation of Ireland and since then it has been a burial ground for the local community. This site is a short walk from our home.
