Just had a night at Frewin House. Brilliant from the moment we arrived. Greeted warmly by Regina and offered tea and cake. Rooms were beautiful. Very relaxing setting and loved the fire. Dinner by candlelight was great with lots of fresh vegetables and local fish. Sad to leave - could have stayed longer. Thanks Regina for a superb stay.

Regina and her family provided a lovely welcome in a house overflowing with character and charm. Our family had four bedrooms; each with their own fine interior design inclusive of white linen and lace. It would be hard to choose which room I preferred. The small touches enriched our stay: my elderly aunt had her hot water bottle filled, my teenager enjoyed playing cards in the library, the exquisitely presented breakfasts were eaten in palatial surroundings. We found it central for our visits to Glenveagh, Ards Friary, Doon Well and Glebe House. Ramelton itself has a great history and a good farmer's market on Sat mornings! We will return with our husbands to this lovely hidden retreat - it was a pleasure to find.

One night is not long enough in this absolute gem. We were mesmerized by the house itself with it's beautiful decor, amazing book collection, interesting pieces of art and hidden little gems of detail everywhere you look.
Regina was an absolute star with interesting and animated conversation that you could listen to for hours.
The attention to detail with the tea and open fire in the library on arrival and the breakfast in the morning is done in the forgotten old fashioned manner with such consideration and care. We were made to feel very special.
Thank you Regina! We will be back again in the near future.

Absolutely delightful old Victorian house with open fires, beautiful bedrooms, antiquities and curiosities. Amazing breakfasts, right down to the exquisite bone chine antique tea cups. Rathmelton town and old harbour side is also a hidden gem, and the Bridge Inn a classic real local music pub with very good healthy food. Great base for exploring Loch Swilly and its beaches.

Frewin House is an absolute gem and as close to the perfect country house accommodation as we have stayed in (and we have stayed in many). The downstairs rooms, with comfortable chairs, fires and reading material are welcoming and cozy. Our bedroom was superb, with the best shower we have found in Ireland, and every possible amenity. The dining room is elegant, the perfect setting for the first rate dinner and breakfasts.

The best of all, and what makes it all work so well, is the suberb hostess, Regina (unfortunately, Thomas was away when we were there). Her friendliness, helpfulness and wit completed the picture wonderfully. Her attention to every detail throughout is obvious, and welcome. Highly recommended to anyone who appreciates this type of accommodation (which we think is the only way to experience wonderful Ireland).

This was our second time at Frewin. The first visit, three years ago, was so pleasant that we returned in September 2010 for three nights to enjoy this lovely, comfortable, interesting home and gracious, dedicated hosts. Breakfast is always a treat, and Regina also whips up a terrific dinner with advance notice. You will find beautiful scenery and fine hiking in the nearby Glenveagh National Park and world-class art at the even closer Glebe House and Gallery. And this corner of Ireland offers some interesting history of Anglo-Irish relations.

Have just returned from a weekend break in Ramelton in Donegal where we stayed at Frewin House, a large Victorian Rectory in 2 acres of grounds. Decorated with a myriad of Victoriana, every room provided food for thought, with a great selection of books to browse. Our room, featured on their website, had 4 windows overlooking the grounds, a spacious bathroom, off which was a small sitting room, with yet another small library, with ample towels, toiletries and bathrobe. Regina and Thomas, our hosts, provided tea and home baked goodies on both days, whilst the breakfast, served in the wonderful dining-room catered for all tastes. There's a wide selection of fresh fruits, yoghurts, cereals, fruit juice, tea and coffee, followed by a full range of cooked to order items, plus her exceptional home baked bread. Plenty of maps, guides and personal advice on places to eat and visit, plus umbrellas to use, if necessary, on the ten minute walk to the town centre, to pubs and restaurants. A 45 minute drive from Derry airport, we won't hesitate to use it again.Don't go if you want flat screen TVs, cutting edge design or minimalist decoration. Do go if you like a house full of interesting art, quirky decorative items, lovely old furniture, the feeling of being house guests and excellent hosts.
