Carey's Viking House Hotel

Reviewed 24 July 2012

Have just returned from a weekend stay at Carey's Viking House, sharing 3 rooms with my family within this lovely, little "home from home" hotel. The location is indeed beautiful with the hotel itself overlooking the sea and the staff are truly wonderful, always time for a chat and nothing ever too much trouble - Siobhan, who we met on reception when we first arrived, couldn't have been more helpful and certainly set the tone for the rest of our stay, Pauline (the owner) always time for a chat with nothing ever too much trouble and the lovely Danielle who even gave us a lift in her own car when we couldn't get a taxi. The food too was fabulous, home cooked and always generous portions. This little hotel is a real gem of a find in the heart of the Gaeltacht, North West Donegal - make sure to visit the beautiful blue flag beach at Carrickfinn and Leo's Tavern in Crolly (home to Clannad and Enya) during your stay.

Just back from a 2 night stay at this hotel and had a fantastic time. The hotel is family run and the service we received during our stay was second to none. Pauline, the owner, couldn't have done anymore for us and was always on hand to help with whatever we needed. The staff (everyone of them) were equally accommodating and extremely helpful and friendly and I could not fault this hotel in anyway. I would have no problem in recommending the Carey's Viking to anyone looking for a clean, friendly hotel with lovely food. will definitely be returning.

On arrival we were pleasantly surprised to see that the hotel was situated on a rocky outcrop with amazing panoramic views of the sea and the surrounding countryside.Guests were sitting outside, drinking and enjoying the craic.. there was a noticeably happy vibe about the place.
The receptionist was efficient and friendly, a trend which was to continue from all the staff for the rest of our stay. We ordered food from the bar menu which arrived promptly and was well presented, tasty and wholesome.
The rooms are neat and spotlessly clean with spectacular sea views. The owner Pauline was always on hand to chat with the guests and consider their opinions. We will definately go back there and indeed we are planning to do so in the coming weeks

Careys Viking House Hotel was know for being the traditional stop for "tea" with Daniell O'Donnell. This is now a lovely homely family run hotel Pauline is defiantely a fantastic host who goes out of her way to satisfy your every need. The food is fabulous from the gorgeously scrummy high teas (re-fulls no problem) and as your in Eire you know the TE is the best. The Sunday Lunches are outstanding, fresh food and large portions (yep they potatoes) by chef Ivan are not to be missed.
The views over the Cruit Island and the Rosses are spectacular, when the sun shines on this bay its likes Gods own smiles. Mentioning Cruit Island there is a 9 hole true links golf course which Pauline can arrange Tee times for you.
Its definately worth a visit here to explore the beautiful area of Donegal, the fantastic beaches are definately a high point, If it wasn't for the wind you could be in Barbados!
We will definately return here and look forward to partaking in Pauline's Ceilidh on a Saturday night, all novice dancers welcomed - which was really just as well :-)

Room Tip: ask for a Sea View - it is so calming to wake up to
