“Do NOT book if there is a wedding on!”
Reviewed 26 July 2014 via mobile

We have just arrived back from a 3 night family break. The hotel itself is lovely, best location/view, overlooking Pollan bay. The staff were very friendly, helpful and really happy to help. We stayed during a mini heat wave and we were offered a fan which was promptly brought up, plugged in and turned on by a really helpful member of staff. The room was a good size, very clean and comfortable but there was no mini fridge or ironing facilities in the room. The breakfasts were delicious, we ordered pancakes most mornings. The restaurant was lovely, very tasty food. However, what spoilt the stay were 2 weddings that were on over our 3 night stay. I was informed when booking that one wedding would be on. But when I found out there was another wedding on the next evening I was not impressed. I brought this up with the reception staff, as I wanted to check out. They said as it was part of a 3 night package, I could not, but they kindly offered us a meal in the restaurant. It was very tasty, but I wish I had of checked out! I woke at 1.30am in the morning feeling like I was sleeping in the middle of the dance floor, even with ear plugs. I went down to complain, they told me it would not be over until 2am! I was told when checking out that it is common that weddings go on until 2 am! If they had made this very clear when I booked, I would not have bothered!
It's such a shame!

Dear Guest, Many thanks for your mainly positive review of the hotel and I can only apologise for the high noise levels that you experienced during your visit. We do make all our guests aware at time of booking if there are weddings on and you should have been made aware of both weddings taking place during your stay. Thank you also for a good point raised regarding advising the time that music can played to. We do hope that you will return to the hotel in the future. Best regards

We had out wedding reception here at the end of June 2014. As you can imagine, we were pretty nervous about the big day, but these guys had everything under control! Loads of our guests have since complimented the venue, the food, the staff, the pool, the view and the hotel in general. I suppose if we're nit picking, we prefer to email but it might be better to call this hotel. On the day everything was perfect, despite our nerves, and for that we say a special thanks to Jo for reservations and Breda and her team for organising everything before the big day and massive thanks to Ricardo and the function staff who was amazing on our big day! Highly recommended to all!

Stayed at the Ballyliffin Lodge from Fri 11th July - Mon 14th July and enjoyed it very much. We had booked a superior room at the front of the hotel as these rooms don't suffer as much from the noise from the function room if there are weddings (there were 2 weddings during our stay).

The room was large and well furnished with a fridge & safe at no extra cost. It had all the usual stuff, flat screen TV, easy chairs, small table, hairdryer, reasonable wardrobe space/drawer space. As we had a balcony we also had a table & 4 chairs on it (this particular room costs extra per night). The bathroom had the usual stuff as well with towels changed daily if required. Wifi was free but I could only get connected in the lobby area and not in my room.

Breakfast was fine just help yourself from a good selection. We ate just one night in the hotel, I was a bit disappointed with the menu, I expected it to be more varied.

Any staff we met were very friendly as would be normal in Donegal. The hotel was very fresh & clean.

We went down to the pool but didn't use it but it looked very nice, remember to bring a swimming cap as you must use one. They are also on sale at the pool for 3 Euro each.

We enjoyed our stay & would recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front of the hotel are less noisy if there is a wedding

Dear Guest, Many thanks for taking the time to write your detailed review and we are delighted that you enjoyed your recent stay with us in one of our balcony seaview rooms. Thank you particularly for your comments regarding Wi-Fi connection and menu choice as feedback like this is the only way we can improve our service to you the guest. Wi-Fi should have been available in your bedroom and throughout the hotel. We will also certainly take your comments on board regarding menu choice and rectify where we feel necessary. Looking forward to welcoming you back to the hotel. Best wishes

Stayed here based on positive reviews. Nice hotel , friendly staff but a bit noisy, centered around a busy bar with adjoining restaurant. Food is fine. Likely a big hit with young families as seemed to be the case for the majority of guests. I would not go back but seems to be the best hotel option in the area at the same time.

Room Tip: Sea view has you over the bar area ....

Dear Guest, Sorry to read that you would not consider a return visit in the future and apologizes if you found the hotel a bit noisy. At this time of year we do indeed have a large number of visitors in the hotel with footfall at its highest with the hotel being fully booked most nights We never like to think of someone not returning so we would hope to see you in the future maybe in off-peak season. Many thanks for your review and Best wishes.
