“Beautiful hotel in very special location”
Reviewed 9 April 2012

Just left this lovely hotel after spending 3 nights in mrauk u. The cottages are lovely with plenty of room for our family of 3. We had a fantastic trip up to mrauk u on the princess boat which is ridiculously expensive but as we had a 4 yr old in tow we didn't want to risk the local boats. we arrived just after sunset and then woke up to see the beautiful grounds. As others have said mrauk is utterly magical and we felt very lucky to experience it as it is now. Our local guide was so proud of his town and couldn't have been nicer taking us to local swimming lakes when it all got too hot.
The spa at the hotel is great and the princess massage was a winner.
The owners should improve their road access though, the locals think so and as the hotel has increased traffic on it, it seems only right that they should improve it. if anyone wants out guide's details PM me.

Having been to Myanmar before , we wanted to see more of this absolutely fascinating country. Our Yangon based german tour operator Myanmar Diaries .com highly recommended to visit the ruins of the old Rhakine Kingdom. The six hour trip on a very comfortable boat was arranged by our agency and we enjoyed seafood, fruit and meat dishes cooked by our german speaking local guide. Certainly one of the most relaxing boat trips we ever did ! Arriving at the hotel by boat is perfect, since they have their own pier. Our group had three very comfortable bungalows , plenty of space, good working AC and bathroom with shower and tub. The restaurant will be the only possibility to have dinner, since the hotel is too far away from Mrauk Ooo to walk to the village at nighttime . Taxis don´t exist and the path to the hotel is an agglomeration of big holes. You are in one of Myanmar´s most remote corners and so don´t expect more than you will get. But: People in the hotel and all around the village are extremely friendly , there are some nice restaurants for lunch and the pagodas and stupas are unique.Like Bagan without tourists , twenty years ago. If you want to experience this mystic place and want to enjoy the luxury of a lovely hotel, the Mrauk Ooo Princess is a perfect place to stay. Minus: Internet did most of the time not work and so we had ( fortunately) no possibility to communicate with the rest of the world . Telephone is extremely expensive in Myanmar: 5 Minutes for about 30 USD , Mobiles don´t work. There are not many places we have seen anywhere in the world that came close to Mrauk Oo.

At the end of a long but fascinating river journey from Sittwe, we were very pleased when we saw the accommodation at this hotel. The rooms were full of character and very comfortable. The bar and restaurant were really pleasant, and the staff extremely helpful and friendly. Food was good.

This is not a slick and sophisticated place, and the electricity sometimes goes off for a short time, but it is full of character and you are certainly made to feel very welcome. The hotel even provides earplugs for the times when monks at a nearby monastery are chanting scriptures, sometimes all night. You are, however, in Myanmar and if Buddhism and it's associated rituals are not for you, then a different destination altogether may be better.

We enjoyed our stay very much.

Room Tip: It seems that all rooms are similar.

The Mrauk-Oo Princess is a charming place to stay in Rakine State. The Cabins are situated in a compound surrounding a lodge and are quite comfortable. They are constructed in the local style with mostly local material. The hotel produces some of it's electrical power from burning rice husks in an ecological way. Don't expect television or air conditioning, they are nt really needed. Nights can become quite cool so bring some clothing that can be worn in layers. The food at the hotel is surprisingly good and of excellent quality considering it's remote location. I would reccomend being very careful eating outside of the hotel. The staff are helpful, kind and considerate. A special mention for the excellent service from Kyaw Win Tin who works at the front desk and also accompanied us on a boat excursion.

Room Tip: Try to get a room with an outdoor shower

Huge, comfortable bedrooms, great bathrooms, super friendly staff, incredible food (for such a remote corner of Myanmar). One critic: the owners should improve their access road.Really dusty and bumpy...

Room Tip: Ask for a cottage near the river

This hotel is a real gem in Myanmar. The location is fantastic, the bungalows very nice and the service is always with a smile. They could improve their dinner buffet, give more training to their staff, etc..but it remains one of my best experience in Myanmar.

A fascinating region of the country and the boat journey on the resort's own boat to get there was one of our highlights. A very spacious boat for just 3 of us, with a top deck to watch (from under a canopy) the banks go by with habitations, people out and about, water buffalo grazing, stupas gleaming gold on hillsides, the mountains in the distance, and so many different types of little boats to look at. The 4 hour journey went by in no time. A delicious 3 course lunch was served on the bottom deck (very noisy from the engine). On the return journey a hot breakfast was served, but the hotel management had insisted we leave at 06.00 which was much earlier than we had to for our flight back to Rangoon from Sittwe and we got to Sittwe airport 3 hours before the flight. The check in desk was not even open yet. We were not pleased. The resort is delightful with large, attractive cabins snuggled in lush gardens, with a veranda, spacious bathroom with bath and separate shower cubicle. It was the only place we stayed which did not have a mini bar in the room (useful to keep your drinking water cold) or a TV which we did not want but others might. We took a half board package as there is nowhere else to easily go and eat dinner, and the a la carte menu had a big choice and the quality was good. One night (out of three) was a buffet - the cold starters were very tasty but the hot main dishes not good at all. We enjoyed the Burmese wine, its worth a try, and the cocktails were good too!
