Pat & Veronica were very friendly on arrival and really helpful! He brought us a BBQ when we asked him for one and there are tennis courts there too. The house was in great condition throughout and warm and cosy in the evenings. The area itself is lovely - full of nature and historical sites. I would go fishing again the next time I go down. I went go karting and for a drink in the local pub. I would say it would be necessary to have a car to move around. Or maybe bicycles if that's your thing! But all in all, a very enjoyable tip and i would definitely return!

We just spend a week at Loughstown and really enjoyed the holiday. This is a gated holiday home estate in the village of Drumcree, just a few miles from Collinstown. Think there is about 20 detached houses in total. We stayed in a 3 bed house which was lovely with all mod cons provided. There is a tennis court, small playground and small football pitch within the village. As the estate is gated it is very secure for children to play outside. We brought flickers, tennis rackets, a football and rollerskates and all were used during the week. Pat & Veronica who run the village are very friendly and helpful. They gave us fantastic tourist advice and you could tell they enjoyed living in the area. Here are some of the things they recommended which we tried;
We went swimming in Lake Lene which was only a 5 min drive from the village. The lake has a jetty and the area around the jetty is marked off for swimming. All the kids there loved jumping off the jetty! There is plenty of parking spaces and there are changing rooms. We also went to Belvedere House & Gardens which is well worth a visit. Its doing a Narnia theme through the woods which the kids love and the house & gardens are amazing. We went Bowling at Rock & Bowl in Mullingar which also has an indoor play area for smaller kids. There are playgrounds in Delvin and Multyfarnham which we went to. We didnt manage to get to Tullynally Castle & Gardens even though it was only up the road. We also went on the Viking Ship tour from Athlone which was very enjoyable and well worth the price.
There is a pub just a short walk from the holiday village but we didnt get to try it. There is a great shop and takeaway in Collinstown and there is a Chinese takeaway and restaurant in Castlepollard. We had lunch in An Tintean at Multyfarnham and even though it is a fancy restaurant they were very child friendly. The food was fantastic and the kids fish & chips was fresh fish! We also had a candlelight lunch in Mullingar in the pub which has candles everywhere. Sorry I cannot remember the pub's name but its lovely and the food was great.

We stayed in Loughtstown Holiday village as part of a large hen party, there was 35 of us in total and Pat and his wife could not have been more accomidating. They were very friendly and helpful. The houses were ideal with very spacious and comfortable and nicely decorated. there was a back patio on every house aswell so you could sit out and enjoy the sun. The only bad thing was it was about 20 mins drive away from mullingar town so a car is needed but Pat came through again and organized taxis to bring us all into town.
