A really lovely eating experience. The buffet starter and dessert tables were amazing with amazing choices. Our main course was top quality. The restaurant and gardens setting is just beautiful. The customer service is excellent.

We had an intimate dinner for 2 here to mark my 50th birthday. We were first shown to the bar where we enjoyed a delicious cocktail. Unfortunately our table was next to the piano and we did feel rather invaded by the non-stop tinkling of show tunes etc. on the ivories which I could have done without. The food though was excellent - for mains we had kidneys in mustard cream sauce and west-cork seafood. The appetizers are served in the middle of the room on a help yourself basis with very attentive staff (almost too attentive!) describing all the dishes, the same with the deserts which were all to die for. We felt we would have preferred to have selected our starter and had it served at the table - but, that said, the formula seems a popular one and works well. The wine list was extensive and reasonably priced. We took our coffee in the bar area in front of the fire (shame it was gas and not a real one). The views out of the window are very pleasing and calming. All in all, we had a lovely experience and they even called us a cab home. Not a cheap night out but great for a special occasion.

The restaurant has a beautiful setting on the edge of an inlet near Durrus on the Sheepshead peninsula. The buildings themselves are historic and the restaurant is spacious and tastefully decorated. An unusual aspect is that the starters are all laid out on what is litteraly a Smorgasbord and diners help themselves from a huge array of fish, vegetable and other dishes - all very appetising and tasty. The sweet trolley too was impressive, as was the cheese board. Our problem was with the main courses. My tuna steak was really rather tasteless. My partner had chicken "stuffed with bulgur wheat and lamb" - which turned out to be all around, rather than inside the small bird - not a particulalry lovely combination. The running of the restaurant and the service, however, all appeared excellent. There is the opportunity to sit outside for coffee, and the gardens and grounds are immaculate.

We visited Blairs Cove last weekend and had the most fab dining experience ever. From the moment we arrived we were taken under their arm and looked after. We had a fab per dinner cocktail and were shown to our table which had a view of the cattle enjoying the evening sunshine!
The chef took us through a vast array of starters and we could then help ourselves. The main course of rack of lamb was cooked perfectly. The cheese board had a selection of locally sourced cheeses and the desert selection was to die for! Here again the chef described each desert. The wine was not over priced. All in all a great dining experience.
The only negative is the entrance and the "road" leading up to it.

We visited the restaurant last Saturday night and yet again had a wonderful dining experience. Everything was excellent, from the warmth of the welcome to the superb service-attentive but not intrusive. We have eaten here previously and were delighted to find that the quality of the food was still as superb as ever. The buffet lived up to it's well earned reputation and the lamb, perfectly cooked on the fire, remains one of my favourite dishes anywhere. It reminded me of the outstanding lamb produced at Calveys of Achill. Is the lamb locally sourced? We were delighted to find that the cheeseboard was comprised almost entirely of really local cheeses all of which were in excellent condition. Not many restaurants have such outstanding produce in the immediate vicinity!!
It's hard not to use well worn phrases or cliches when describing a dining experience at Blairs Cove and this applies equally to the location. Enjoying a pre dinner drink whilst perusing the menu is really quite difficult when distracted by the calves playing in the next field, not to mention the vista of Dunmanus Bay. No one said eating out was going to be easy!!
Another fabulous experience and one we can't wait to repeat.
