I am not always a history buff but really enjoyed the guided tour of the castle - very informative. Lovely location too.

It is well worth your while taking a trip around Carrick-on-Suir from the N24 to R676. The Ormond Castle built in 1300 with it's Tudor Manor the only one in Ireland. If you walk up the Main Street and see the Town Clock Built in 1784. And the Old Bridge The first Bridge above the Estuary of the River built in 1447. Several Resturants in Town.

This is a very unusual design in Irish architecture, I have rarely seen its like. Staff from the OPW were amazing, we were stunned there was no charge. The guides took us on a potted tour as our girls 12, 10 and 6 had already been to the Damer House in Roscrea the day before and they have limited attention span! The plasterwork and the great hall and oak panelled room are really well restored, I would have loved to hear more but we had a limited time and I would definitely return and hear the full adult version! There is parking outside but the one way system is a little tricky. Afterwards, we were short of time to explore food options and reluctantly went into SuperMacs - Irish version of McDonald's. While the food was predictably stodgy fast food the service by the older chap with the English accent was Silver Service! He really took pride in his job, patient with the kids and very welcoming - not what we were expecting. Well done SuperMacs.!

A great place to visit and as we had the guided tour by Anne-Marie who was very knowledgeable, it is some part ruin and some part in restoration, this takes money and we can't understand why they don't charge . Well worth the visit even if it is not sign posted very well
