My mother and I stayed at Dunbrody on a recent tour of Ireland. All told, we were very disappointed with our stay. Dunbrody is a SLH hotel (Small Luxury Hotel). We have stayed at SLH's all over the world (including two others in Ireland) and never been disappointed until now.
Check in was very cold. The staff seemed uninterested and unenthusiastic. We were provided no information on the hotel on check-in (i.e., where is the dining room, the bar). Our 300 Euro per night room was small with only one chair. The phone in our room was not equiped for outside calls. We had to borrow the hotel's own phone from the lobby. Sadly for us, we were unable to drown our sorrows as there was no minibar either.
Dinner in the dining room was mediocre and very expensive. We saw no shades of the much hyped restaurant that we were expecting. Service in the dining room was cold and unprofessional.
On the bright side, the hot breakfast was good.
All in all, we found Dunbrody to be overpriced and way overhyped.
