Jonathan and Melanie were fantastic hosts - accommodating, thoughtful, and knowledgeable on the area. The B&B is centrally located and makes a perfect base for exploring the Languedoc region – Canal du Midi, copious vineyards, mountains, sea, cities, villages. From the B&B you can take a quiet walk (run/cycle) along the tree-lined canal that leads to the Canal du Midi. This is a place for relaxing! Leave your laptop at home and let yourself fall into the leisurely pace of French country life.

The highlight of our stay was a 3-hour boat cruise down the Canal du Midi aboard the owner's boat, Bella Mia. We anchored at Ventenac, had a walk around the village and returned to a delicious lunch served on board. As it was off-season, we had the canal virtually to ourselves. This is not to be missed!

Room Tip: Isolde and Emile bedrooms are located on the first floor adjacent to each other. Alain and Marcus are attic rooms located on the 2nd floor with a shared sitting room and roof terrace adjacent.

From the moment you step inside La Souqueto you feel as if you're home! You become part of John and Mel's family! I came to teach french to a group( mainly Irish) and our school was in the attic. We had so much fun! In the afternoons we went on excursions with John and Mel ferrying us around. In the evenings we ate in the kitchen and drank loads of wine from the surrounding vineyards. Of course we had to sing then!.Ask John to sing. He has an amazing voice!
We had an amazing week! We shared our lives and stories with people who were strangers at the beginning of the week but became best friends at the end. There were plenty of tears saying goodbye to the Alports and their gorgeous home. A la prochaine fois!

Room Tip: Rooms on the first floor are gorgeous. The ones in the attic are small

A note from Jon Alport….Hi Shireen, thank you so much for such a moving review. It was a truly wonderful week…I know your students loved being taught by you… and to cap it off, in such a short space of time Mel and I had made life-long friends with a group of thoroughly interesting people! You Irish certainly know how to party but more importantly you know how to live life to the full!

There will always be a warm welcome for you here at La Souqueto!

We have just come back from a 4 night stay at the beautiful La Souqueto in Mirepeisset. It has to be the perfect retreat. Situated a very short walk to the Canal du Midi it is ideal for walkers, cyclists, or anyone who wants a rustic retreat which gives great access to mountains, forest, coast or gorgeous villages with bustling markets. Our room in this historic house was truly lovely with the most comfortable bed and spacious en suite shower room and we couldn't have been made to feel more welcome. Jon and Mel have obviously gone to a lot of trouble to discover all the gems this area has to offer and understand what makes a good holiday. Their recommendations ensured that we didn't waste any of our precious time there, not least our visit to the stunning conservation area of Peyriac with its colony of flamingoes. We also took a trip on Jon's boat which was a real highlight and a great way to see the countryside. We will certainly go back and can't wait.

What a find! I had a twin room with beautiful shutters, which was tastefully decorated. Clean, really comfy bed with crisp bed linen and soft throws. Ample hot water for showering. John and Mel couldn't have been more welcoming or friendly, catering to our ever need. Delicious breakfast including home made preserves and wonderful local croissants/bread. Check out the only restaurant in the village, the food was authentic and really tasty . Mel cooked a yummy meal for us one night
I went with a group of friends and we had a jolly time on Bella Mia, a boat lovingly restored by John. Mel arranged for us to hire bicycles and we had a great day cycling an easy 27k along the Canal du Midi.

So much to see and do in the Languedoc Region, a gentle area of France with lots of surprises

I would recommend this B&B unreservedly...loved it!

Room Tip: The family room is really spacious with outdoor terrace and squidgy sofa, amazing value

A short five day trip with our 'Dancing Girls' group turned into an unexpectedly wonderful full blown holiday.Which I can confidently recommend to friends, family and work colleagues.
Clean, well appointed, beautiful furnished bedrooms, with excellent beds and showers.

Fantastic french breakfast with homemade jams and marmalades and a gentle hospitable approach by the lovely owners Mel and John.

Their boat and The Canal du Midi are a five minute walk away, their are bikes to hire and markets to visit. The beach and the ancient town of Minerve and much much more.

An absaloute delight !

Room Tip: All the rooms are the same high standard. I looked !
