“Kite surf & chill out”
Reviewed 29 May 2014

Beginning of May we stayed for one week at dolphin beach resort – and absolutely loved it. It is a beautiful resort located right at the beach. The resort is perfect for kiters that like to avoid crowded spots. You can kite directly in front of the hotel – there is a small beach break although the sea was a bit choppy in May. Not a spot for complete beginners, but intermediate kiters can already have a lot of fun. We also had a transfer arranged that took us up to the Kalpitiya lagoon which is approximately 30-40 min away. Kalpitiya is great spot for freestyle and also complete beginners as the water is completely flat. Off the Lagoon you can also kite in the ocean – the lagoon and the ocean are approx. 50m apart. We also saw a few kiters far out off the coast (5-10km) were there is supposedly a reef and big waves, however no infrastructure or safety / security in place to take you out or to rescue you from there (expert kiters only).
The resort is not only a perfect place for kiters, but also for people just wanting to relax and chill out.
The service was excellent and the food was always fresh and delicious. The luxury tents as well as the pool were always perfectly clean. We had a great time and we want to come back as soon as possible! The owner Dean is very kind, friendly and a perfect host who is always around – was a pleasure meeting him! We recommend to anyone who wants to kite surf, chill-out and enjoy quality service and good food.

We spent a weekend with our family at Makara, it was one of the most beautiful places we have been on the west coast of Sri Lanka. The place is absolutely stunning, the manager Dean was so friendly and helpful, we had a great time, great food and we wish to spend more weekends there in the future. The place is a nice getaway because you feel detached from the world and all you can do is enjoy and relax whilst admiring the sunset on the beach. Though there are many guests, you feel like you're alone, the place is really spacious and well designed. :)
We hope to visit Dolphin Beach Resort again.

My recent trip to Sri Lanka involved a fantastic short stay at Dolphin Beach on my way back to Colombo - a beautiful property right on the beach with a well run team. Dean was a great host and the rest of the staff were only too willing to help and provide. Great food, freshly caught and cooked with always the reassurance of an ice cold Lion lager - perfect!!!

We were introduced to this amazing resort by a friend who lives in Sri Lanka. She had visited several times before and I can see why. The place is like paradise. We were welcomed by Dean the Manager who is extremely friendly and helpful. As we were a little out of season we had the place to ourselves, which made it even more special. The pool, swing beds and loungers were a dream and a delightful place to de-stress and unwind from everyday life. We also went out dolphin watching early one morning and saw over 200 dolphins at play, something you may see only once in a life time. We will definitely return next year. Don't change a thing as it's perfect the way it is.

Room Tip: Well I think any room at this resort would be beautiful, but maybe ask for one near the pool and bea...

I have been with my family to Dolphin Beach Resort three times so far, which I suppose speaks for itself. You simply want to return to this place. For me, the best feature of this resort is the feeling that it is your own. It is so private, cozy, you actually never feel you are in hotel but rather reliving some great experience from your childhood. Tents are marvelous, with hideaway feeling to it. AC is there but we never use it as there is constant light breeze from the ocean.
Service is great, place is managed by a very able manager Dean, who stops at nothing to make you feel pampered. Food is good, usually Sri Lankan buffet but with lot to chose from the menu.
Best part of the day for me is sunset, when place sinks into serenity you can rarely find elsewhere.
Bottom line - I found my place of retreat in Sri Lanka.

We had a couple of lovely meals at the Resort whilst staying in Kalpitiya. Dean, the manager, was most friendly and charming - and we were well looked after. Absolutely recommend the pizza evenings! Wine was very good, and staff attention and food quality excellent. We only wish that we could have time to stay at this beautiful resort - next time hopefully! Martyn & Marina

This place is fantastic, it is in a quiet and idyllic area. There is little influence from local people and the resort is great for couples and small groups to relax and get away. The accommodation is clean and comfortable and well worth the VERY sensible prices paid. The site is clean and has fantastic views of the Indian Ocean. There was a variety of tropical fish washed onto the shore everyday! Access to local attractions such as Dolphin watching and Safari is also very easy and more than affordable.
The site manager Dean is very hospitable and friendly checking your needs regulary or is happy to give you space to relax. I have never been to Sri Lanka before however I would happily go again and have no issues staying at Dolphin Beach resort.
Thanks for a great time.
