We liked the peacefulness, the lagoon view, and the accommodation & service was excellent. Excellent location to be based and to proceed to the lagoon and go out to sea and watch thw Dolphins.

It is great place to be just to relax and get away from hectic life. The large lagoon bordering the hotel can really get you into a trance state. Rooms are spacious and gives you a great view of the lagoon. Even though the toilets are clean the fixtures are rusted and needs to be upgraded. the quality of water from taps are poor.

Recreational facilities provided such as kayaking are great and quite enjoyable. Love the ambiance of the whole place. Food is excellent and the service is great. Definitely a place I would come back.

Ruwala resorts in Kalpitiya, in the NW coastline of Sri Lanka, is a gem, rough cut but glittering nonetheless. Its a small resort, 6 rooms in all and an infinity pool, but the quality of its services outclass its size. Run by Mr Maithiri Rodrigo, an avid fan of Dolphins & Whales, with a firm anchor in the local community, Maithri offers an all round service to all those keen on seeing Dolphins and more. The hotel is in an unspolit section of the coastline, and he will arrange the boat hire and accompany you out to sea. I and my small party were blown away by the schools of Dolphins we saw-at least a 1000 Spinners and Bottle nosed partygoers, out to have a ball in a sunlit sea,We just missed seeing a Sea turtle, possibly an Olive Ridleys,
Ruwala has a great chef, who does a great crab curry and seafood, and the staff are friendly and supportive. The rooms are large and pleasant, and lots of room ot hang out in the patio of an evening.
In contrast to many other whale & dolphin watching operators, Maithri doesnt charge the earth, and is very knowledgeable and eager to please. My hats off to him for operating an oasis of delight, and I'm making plans to come back for the next season, or maybe go again this year.
