“Not the best host and location”
Reviewed 2 May 2014 via mobile

We stayed her for 2 nights after reading good reviews about the hospitality.
When we checked in we were given 2 prices: 3200 for the room and 4000 incl breakfast for 2 persons (so 400each).
We accepted and booked the whale watching tour for the next day via Praneeth. He told us about his new tuk tuk and said he would bring us to the harbour for free the next morning. We thoughed that was very nice of him. As the whale watching tour included breakfast (all tours do)we didnt take this at the Guesthouse.
When we checked out he wanted to charge us 4000 per night. We said we didnt have the breakfast the first night because we went whale watching and that the price for that night should be 3200 as said before. The host got really frustrated and changed the bill to 3200+4000 and then made us pay for the ride to the harbour too (200 rupees). Very strange... this guy has a strange vibe and really bad temper.. one second you're his best friend and he wants to share his arrak next thing you're a horrible guest (in his eyes) and he's picking a fight. We just paid and left.

Location wise the place is ok at a secluded beach. To walk to the main beach you have to follow quite a dangerous road for 10 min. Seriously the busses pass you at 100km an hour. The last night a guy on a scooter tried to steal my purse. Praneeth then told this had happend before... well thanks for the warning. So here: whatch your bags or take a tuk tuk back..
Wouldnt stay here again because of our bad experiences..

Praneeth guest house was suggested by a friend of mine. And I must admit that it was just the place to relax after the busy week in mountains and before heading back home. Just on the beach with own bay with turtles, ocean view from the balcony, really really friendli owners, good breakfast, walking distance to the main beach and restaurants.

Rooms were clean and simple- exactly what I was looking for. But the location was just the best! Would definitely suggest to everyone.

Fab fab fab!!!!
Owner was super nice arranged whale watching for us! When we asked around it did seem what we payed was cheaper then what others were paying :) we thought that it was going to be 4000 for the 3 nights we stayed but it was actual 4000 a night.

The owner was very honest and told us in advance that the rooms were very simple and he was right but it's part of what made this a charming place to stay. We didn't have a sea view room but it wasn't a big deal at all. Perfect even without the view.
The beach is on the door step, its a small quiet clean beach, with turtles! We got a surprise when one (massive one) popped up for air right next to us. Was fantastic to see and a real memory to take away. Snorkelling visability wasn't great until you got about 30meters away from the shore.

In conclusion, fantastic stay. We recommend going to the surf shack just down the road on the beach if you want a better wifi though as ours didn't pick it up, although other people were using it.

The best location on the best beach in Mirissa, coral reef with turtles in front of you. Try and get the front sea view rooms, just special. Good price for location ad Praneeth is a cool bloke. Many hotels and guest houses going up around here so go soon it will be loads busier next season!

First, Mirissa has to be the most beautiful beach I have ever been to (and I have been all over the Caribbean, Goa and Central America). Praneeth's is a charming guest house right on the beach... Moreover, the beach is secluded with nice coral and wild life (we swam with a giant sea turtle right in front of the guest house). The main beach with restaurants and bars is only a 10-minute walk down the beach. Also, Praneeth's cooking is amazing... Eat there every night!

Room Tip: None of the rooms have A/C so try and grab one in the front by the beach for a nice breeze.

It was such a great experience from the moment I emailed Praneeth to my last day staying at his amazing guesthouse! It's definitely the most affordable accommodation on the beach with the best food as well! Location wise could not be better, away from the main beach crowd and loud music, which is only a short 15mins walk along the beautiful coast! I booked a seaview room on the main floor and loved falling asleep and waking up to the loud crashing waves, when you're this close to the sea you don't need AC or hot water showers!
Being a single female traveler can be difficult at times, but Praneeth and his wife made me feel right at home and were so great at helping me out with anything I needed. With Praneeth's direction, I took the local bus to Galle for the afternoon and loved it. Sri Lanka is such a beautiful diverse country and quite easy to travel around alone.
Now onto the incredible food....hands down the best home cooking I had in all of Sri Lanka!! The breakfast always came with a large plate of fresh cut fruit (only guesthouse to cut the fruit and give such a great selection), and the toast was always warm, which is usually not the case at any other guesthouse or restaurant. The dinners were spectacular every night no matter what was served, there was always a great selection and plenty of food to fill you up! The flavors in their dishes were diverse and different, not your typical rice and curry everywhere else with the same coconut base flavor, what Praneeth and his wife cook up is simply the best food you will have in Mirissa or anywhere else in Sri Lanka, I wouldn't stay or eat anywhere else in Mirissa!!

Whether you're going to Mirissa for a day or a week, book a room at Praneeth's guesthouse by emailing or calling him, but do it early cause it books up fast and for great reasons! You can find his contact info on www.lankaholidays.com.

Room Tip: Book a sea view room if available, they have the best veranda/balcony. But honestly, you'll be l...

After a hectic tour, this was the perfect antidote. We stayed in one of the front rooms with a balcony and sea view. The room was basic, with a quiet fan which kept us cool during the night. We soon got used to the cold shower. The whole set-up is relaxing. The garden is full of palm trees providing shade. There is a leaf-covered shelter to sit in by the beach and a hammock. Through the garden gate and you are on the beach. Its small with soft golden sand. The sea is of course warm and suitable for swimming and snorkelling - I borrowed a mask from Praneeth. Early each morning the locals set off fishing in their small catamarans and I often helped to pull them up the beach on their return about 9am. Praneeth and his wife are great cooks. Meal times are very relaxed - he comes and tells you when food is ready. We ate there each evening for 6 days and every meal was different - we chose the meat - chicken, prawns, fish, and each was accompanied by giant bowls of fried rice and an amazing selection of vegetables in small bowls. We were introduced to several new vegetables such as ochra and manioc. Breakfasts were delicious, including a big bowl of fresh fruit. We loved our time there.
