“If you want to prebook in Mirissa this is good bet”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 March 2014

We couldn't find a lot in Mirissa online to pre-book within our price range and with aircon, we chose this place and very glad we did. We did not have air con in Kandy or Ella as not needed, but here would have been far more unpleasant without it, as you cannot open the windows due to mozzies and no mozzie screens (unlike SE Asia they dont seem to have mozzie protection on windows in Sri Lanka which is most odd. Mozzie net was in the worst condition of any guesthouse we uesd in Sri Lanka, but better than most we have come across in SE Asia.

Room nice and big with good terrace onto the gardens for monkey viewing. Bathroom small with a weird door to shower which meant floor got wet after a shower rather unnecessarily. Room clean except an old packet and cotton bud lying by the side of the bed which was weird as they were very easy to spot!

Location is great as away from the noisy and polluted main road, but still only minutes from the beach. Also good as it forces you away from the beach drag so you can see some more local eateries etc.

Whale watching is cheaper from little Italian place at the bottom of the road. We saw 2 blue whales, but will never go whale watching again!

Was not offered a Sri Lankan breakfast (which I would have preferred), so had the western both mornings which was fine for an included meal. We asked if we could have late breakfast one day as we were whale watching, and they didi this for us (about 11am) so very impressed. They did not screw us on exchange rate of dollars to rupees.

Staff helpful and this was probably the most pleasant place we stayed in, on our trip (also the second most expensive). We did ask some places how much they were for walk in and you can save money, but some of the more swanky places on the beach were in the hundreds of dollars.

This is a good compromise and no regrets in the booking. Highly recommended.

We stayed at Riverside for two nights and had a brilliant stay. The staff were really friendly and the small apartments make you feel like you are not in a generic hotel.
It is also off the main street so you don't hear Tuk Tuks raging by all night. You are still only 5 minutes walk from the beach.
Unfortunately the chef was away so we didn't try dinner, but the place next door (on the way to the beach) was amazing.

The room was spacious and clean, and my only small gripe was that the window in the bathroom couldn't shut.

A lovely experience overall and I would go back tomorrow..... ahhh if only I could. ;-)

This hotel had the nicest grounds of any we stayed in in Sri Lanka. Each room has a little outside patio area which was nice to chill out in.

The room was large and comfy - my only complaint was that the bathroom was very small, and a little smelly at times.

The staff were nice, but we had a bit of difficulty with the language barrier - got there in the end though.

Overall, a nice hotel, away from the busy road which is big bonus in Sri Lanka!

Unfortunately we were not given a cabin and had to make do with an upstairs room overlooking the road. The room was adequate but pretty basic. Yes, away from the main drag but proximity to fenced off river meant that the mosquito nets were essential. Having had a quick look at the kitchen we declined the breakfast. However it is well placed for busy Marissa and the staff were very helpful.

Room Tip: Try to get a cabin

I stayed three nights in this excellent guesthouse, and i enjoyed very much! The three guys, samitha, ravi and sunil, are doing a great job, they are very friendly and helpful, the meal taste wonderful and the rooms are clean, its really worthy! It is very quite, they have a nice garden and sometimes, you will see monkeys, and it is only a five minutes walk to the beach, they organize as well tours like whale watching. I highly recommend this guesthouse, and when i come back, i would stay again there!

We booked for 3 nights before our departure from the Hill County, and we have been really satisfied with the choice, the staff is super friendly, Sri lankan breakfast are very nice, with the classic string hoppers etc and a delicious fresh coconut chilly sambol (western breakfast instead are very mediocre). 3-5 mins from the beach, which we preferred in the evening when the beach bars start pumping up the volume. Our room was clean with hot water and ac,so after some unpleasant rooms before, we preferred to pay a bit more; comparing with other places Also on the beach, it is maybe a bit overpriced, but we saw and slept Also in other places and this was probably one of the best, so it just depends on your budget i guess!
