This hotel is absolutely fantastic..
The location is second to none with views of the beach and hammocks to laze in.The rooms are also spacious and super clean. To be honest it is hard to fault it as it is new and doing everything right at the moment; we had a great few days there. It was also a nice touch allowing our daughter to use the body boards and little touches like this for kids will go down well e.g get a baby chair for the dinning area. Everyone was really friendly to us and we felt very much at home especiallyy our two kids. I think the restaurant could do with a bit more work on its appearance so that it matches the price of the hotel. Just little things like binning the paper napkins and laminated menu and the fairly bland furniture as this doesn't feel on brand. I am sure this is something that will happen as it becomes more established.Good luck with the hotel Scott.

Arrived to find loud music and even louder Australians and so we felt at least 30 years too old.
However this soon changed and we began to appreciate the gorgeous surroundings. Rooms were great with good views and either balconies or hammocks though there were a few problems with mosquitoes because of an open vent in the bathroom.[Some simple mesh would have solved this] Initially we struggled to get a n understanding of what food was available because of a language problem with one member of staff but soon we met the chef who made some suggestions and produced some outstanding meals.
Well worth a stay especially if you're going whale-watching which is just five minutes away.

No1 Mirissa is a new, stylish and upmarket boutique hotel/guest house perched on the rocks at the end of Mirissa Beach. The location is fantastic with lovely views along the palm trees and down to the surfers in the water. We stayed there after moving on early from the very disappointing Talalla Retreat.

The design of the rooms is comfortable and elegant, with lots of billowing white fabric, nice shower rooms and hand made beds. Very comfortable.

The food in the restaurant is tasty, well cooked and remarkably reasonably priced; breakfast is great and the coffee (Nespresso to order) is by far the best we had in coffee-ruining Sri Lanka!

However, the standout feature of the place is the customer service and drive to get things right. The owner Scott and manager Su are a constant presence in the background, unobtrusively anticipating and attending every guest need. They are friendly and approachable, full of both useful information and enjoyable conversation. The other front of house staff are a little inexperienced, as we found with many of Sri Lanka's resorts, but invariably charming, friendly and really keen to make a guest welcome.

To finish icing this lovely cake, No1 could make access to the beach more convenient, add a little more privacy across the balconies and perhaps provide sofas in the rooms to allow sitting in the air-conned coolness during the midday heat. A couple of small things like cotton robes and coffee in the bedrooms would sugar the cherry on top.

As it stands No1, while by no means cheap, is a wonderfully relaxed, luxurious and friendly place to spend a few days; we highly recommend it as the best place we enjoyed in a month in Sri Lanka, and really wish we'd had more than 2 nights there.

Paul and Jill

Room Tip: Upstairs are quite a bit dearer, but have lovely views from the balconies and big vaulted ceilings.

Mirissa was busier than we had expected, but this place was such a find. The rooms are simply gorgeous. I had such a wonderful snooze on the verandah falling asleep to the waves - oh total bliss! Also you could watch some great surfing from your bed - how cool is that? The whole vibe of the place was really great. We did feel there was some room for improvement when it came to lunch and dinner, food a bit on the bland side and sometimes served luke warm. But it didn't really matter because the location and atmosphere were outstandning.

Room Tip: We were on the ground floor. These rooms are quite a bit cheaper but still have great views.

We just had one night in Mirissa but we should have stayed longer. Number One Mirissa has a perfect location - tucked away at the end of Mirissa beach with a great view. The room was spotless, the bed was incredibly comfortable and the staff were very friendly. We had to get up really early to go whale watching so we didn't get chance to sample the food but the owner stopped our car as we were leaving to give us bottles of water.

We absolutely loved Mirissa - the beach is amazing, very relaxed and there are just the right amount of little restaurants and bars along the beach to add to the chilled atmosphere. If you are planning a trip to Mirissa, make sure you stay at Number One and go whale watching with Raja and the Whales.

Great little place at the western end of the beach overlooking the surf. The rooms are beautiful and spotless with absurdly comfortable beds and lovely soft cotton sheets. There are sun loungers outside on two levels if you can't be bothered to walk the 50 meters to the beach.

Considering the price, it has a few issues, but they are pretty minor. The quality and service in the restaurant is really mixed and the menu is limited. Floors, bedding and towels were all very clean, but nobody seems to be looking at the walls. The cleaner was also annoyingly enthusiastic, knocking on the door every five minutes despite a sign that we could hang on the door to say we did want the room cleaned. My husband also cut his hand on the rough cut quartz that lines the pool.

These might just be teething problems as it's only been open for a few months. However, when you charge $185 plus per night, people will tend to hold you to a higher standard.

This place is an interesting mix of b&b, boutique hotel wanna be and an upscale hostel in the best way possible. The location of the property is to die for....surfers right outside your place and a view that rivals some type of robinson Crusoe image. The rooms are super clean and extremely well equipped. Wifi is pretty stable (free). The dinners are almost right out of some type of seafood extravagance, whatever pleases your heart they will cook up, lobster, calamari, shrimp and fish, fish and more fish, two nights we had the tuna sashimi and honestly it puts Nobu to shame like by a mile...ridiculous. Now, does the place have issues? Yip it does but its more little things that generally speaking would bug a Westerner like language issues and some cultural things, but overall its the type of place that basically if you ever had the balls to start and run a place away from the rat race, would be a slice of paradise. Scott the owner is there all the time and without him this wouldn't run the way it does....
